About 50,000 till I need a new power plant... what should I get? Am going LS1!!!JKJK

NO LS1 NOT EVER!!!

Ok so got a 91 Vert and she will not be N/A in 60,000 mils... or so I hope. BUt am thinking of getting the engine soon building it up slow, making it how I want and when I need it just "drop it in" how I wish thats how it worked Looking to make a fast good car not wanting to go over 350HP right now. But any way my opps are

Going supercharged RENESIS.

Going 13B-REW (keeping the twin-turbocharger setup) but going with a bit bigger twins like somthing from a Supra...

Going 13B-RE

Going 20b but that might be a bit out of reach...

And there is the R26B... wait If only...

Just once more NEVER a LS1 Supid LS1's lol

Any way pros/cons from anyone that has done any of the swaps? What would you do/want and thinks that I would keep in mind to when I am doing up grades.

Thanks for your time
Zane

PS will RENESIS rotors work in a REW?

IMO the best upgrade would be an S5 TII engine built with the standard reliability upgrades and a larger single. the advantages are no "one of a kind" fabrications, and you can stay with stock wiring, or banzai racing makes a power FC adapter for the S5 if you want to go standalone. Once again, you can do anything that you have the money and time to do, but unless you are needing to be out there on your own (and we already sort of are with the rotary) the best use of your money is KISS.

From the 2nd gen FAQ:

Can I swap a Turbo engine/Jspec engine/13BT/etc into my Non Turbo?
Yes, check these links:
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showthr...threadid=26647
http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/ro...conversion.htm

How do I add a turbo to my NA 13B?
What Turbo kits can I add onto my non turbo RX-7?
There are no longer kits formally made at the time of this post, however there are companies from time to time that do make available non turbo to Turbo Kits. Because most of these companies stop building the kits, or go out of business in short time, it is impossible to keep active links for them.

Most people that turbo a non turbo make their own kits:
Using the stock TII turbo, exhaust manifold with spacer, NA intakes and NA ECU:

Will a 3rd Gen RX-7 (FD) twin turbo engine (13B-REW) fit in my 2nd gen RX-7?
The simple answer is No! The motor mounts are in different locations as well as other issues; however if you have enough time and money it can be done. Much of the project will be custom fabricating all the systems that attach to the engine such as the exhaust, intercooler setup, cooling system and wiring. A standalone EMS is almost required and it is very difficult to control the sequential turbos. Most people go to a single turbo because of this. In general this swap is not worth the time and trouble unless you plan on making more then 450 HP.

Here is a basic write up: http://fc3spro.com/TECH/SWAP/FD3S/rew.html

There have been many past threads covering swapping the 13B-REW into an FC:

Can I put the RX-8 engine (Renesis) in the 2nd gen?
Well, technically yes. But it is not a simple bolt-in swap. The Renesis uses different mounts, and an entirely different ECU and wiring harness. Anything can be done, but this is much more complicated then swapping any 2nd gen engine into the car. Lots of fabrication, wiring and other things must be done to support this engine. It is generally easier (and probably cheaper) to swap in the 20B three rotor, or the 13B turbo from the Turbo II.

Do yourself a favor and avoid the REW if you plan on using twins. It's just a massive headache because of how it's set up with the many vacuum lines and solenoids ready to fail at any moment. Stick with the T2 swap and some basic bolt ons and a large T3 or small T4 turbo and you'll make that power on pump gas at less than 12psi. Safe and easy

Hey thanks guys and sorry for asking somthing that has come up so much.
and thanks Jenkin for all the links... looks like I have some reading to do. And"tweaks"?

Here I was thinking I was going to get a debate on what I should get haha well so much for that...

I know a TII engine would be faster and less painfull to get in... but come on I got a RX-7 I want to do somthing a little bit different. so I am looking more at the 13B-RE right now... Dose it have the bigger seals like the REW?

I am not wanting to go over a street port right this min and I am not wanting to run a lot of boost... but tha can change.

Been talking about doing a LS6 swap but its for a friends Pontiac Solstice.

If you want to do something different just to be different, more power to ya and I would be interested to see what you come up with. As has been mentioned prior though, you don't need to do anything "difficult" to get 350hp in an FC. Pretty much the standard T2 swap, rebuild, streetport (don't be scared of it, it's not going to effect drivability) intake/exhuast/fuel/turbo/ECU will do it. Not to make it sound like it's not a lot of work as many undertake and never finish such a project but money and time is usually the deterent, not difficulty of the work.

I would suggest if you want to do something different find out what the unique advantages of each swap might be and pick the one that appeals to you the most. PERSONALLY, I would love a NA renesis in the FC. 250 N/A HP in a 2600 lb FC would be just too much fun at 9,000 rpms. For how much work it is..... is it "worth" it to me? No. Find a project that is worth it to you or you will never finish it, no matter how into it you may be now.

Just my $.03

I would love a Renesis in mine to. just get a RX8 that was hit in the back and gut it... if only it work like that it would be done! But hey something just cant be that good.

And its not as much as a different just to be different but looking for a better starting point... been doing a lot of reading and somthing just keeps pulling me back to the RE.

Oh I dunno maybe the intake manifold and ports that are larger than the other series of 13b's... Especially if you plan on boosting it it's a great idea. TweakGames just did a build with a ported RE and a T04E he made 312 at 11psi or something like that. That's very mild boost and quite a bit of power for an FC.

Boost + Renesis = rebuild.

Not that it's impossible, but just not the best idea.

Shallow apex seals and the renesis porting is what make me not a fan.

In all other rotaries, if you lose a front seal, it goes out the front housing, not so true in a renesis..

Nice one Josh.

There are a lot of other damned nice piston engine besides
LS/LT that make **** tons of power. My 1JZ project can handle
over 650 HP on a stock bottom end with no serious internal
changes..... Literally, you can get 500~ HP out of injectors,
exhaust, a bigger turbo, and a fuel remap. Plus they're damned
cheap and reliable for 200k or so. I've never seen a rotary do
that, and I've had enough of them to make that comment.

someone mentioned the 1jz, personally i think an rb26dett with an rb25 5 speed tranny in a vert would be sweet, some mild mods and yourat 400hp easily, some custom wiring, a small amount of welding, and some small work and your set, people put them in fd's fairly easily. i still say LS series is the best bang for the buck tho, stock junkyard ls2 with a remap, cam and headers, and a 6spd t-56 and your already looking at around 400hp to the wheels, wiring is easy, mounting is easy (plenty of options out there) and its just a very powerfull yet reliable and road friendly car

I would seriously go ls1.

Anyways, The RE is over rated, porting is over rated, the rotary engine in general is severely over rated on this forum.

There is no reason to go RE, unless one literally falls in your lap. 300-350 rwhp can easily be done on a hybrid and a decent tune on a stock s4 na motor with the proper fuel, tune, ect... Get a nice standalone, build the engine with basic stock things, even apex seals, and run 10-13 psi. Spend a majority of your money on the tune and tuning process. There are no magic ports, magic apex seals are a waste at 300-350 rwhp, no need for ignition upgrade, 20b bs. When you get bored of the 300 rear wheel, a simple pre turbo water injection system will allow for an easy 4-5 psi of boost increase. A majority of the things people obsess about create zero to negotiable gains in performance. From my experience, nothing lives up to what it is advertised to do, and will most likely just cause issues. Refresh the engine, get the side seals nice and tight, make sure your housings are in good shape, replace any parts out of tolerance, slap a turbo, wastegate, etc, and just boost the sheit out of it. It really isn't as complicated as everyone has it made out to be. People (including me) have sat and read up on what turbo to get for hours, and hours, and hours, finding out what will happen at 10 psi, 11 psi, ... ... ... going crazy. When you step back, its just 1 fecken psi, 50 rpm of lag difference, just silly. lol. A 5 degree temp difference, a slight miss in your tune, fat friend in the car, there is just too many stupid things to worry about. Just have fun.

The rx8 engine can be boosted just fine, if you blow an apex seal, 99.99% of the time (in our engine), your rotor and housings are screwed anyways. Seriously, I have blown so many engines, I know. lol The rx8 is a very smooth engine because of its zero overlap. I personally want to see more stuff done with them. High compression just mean's the tune needs to be that much better, that's all. Now putting any other engine into an FC, is actually pretty silly (for your power goals), unless like I said before, it falls into your lap for free. You are not going to go be a professional racer, out to get that last .001 off your time.... if you were, you would not be posting this question in the first place. Just build it, simple, nothing extravagant, get some nice tires, and drive it. YES, drive it, have fun with it, go do the autocrosses, and go attend a drift event and break all your parts... go have fun. The down time increase for a special part or porting balancing or what ever, is seriously just a waste of time and money. Inject boost reasonably, and drive happy. Or go LS1, and be even more happy. XD

Just to make myself clear, I am happy to help anybody with their build, or try to answer any questions they may have. If you got an RE (again nothing special really), and want to know my experiences with it, and what all is required to get it all installed, I am happy to help. Most of that information can be found on the forum pretty easily though.

P.S. Nice post jenkins. Also I'm in Yakima for the next few days! Anything going on? I am going to be spending some quality time, me.... 2 rotors, 12 new unclearanced side seals, a sanding stone...0015-.0035inch feeler gauges .... 5 or 6 hours of my life wasted..... lol Would love to get out of the house.

tweak, my boy, lol... also a nice post, you have come so far since noobie hood. I think you are 100% correct. Build with mazda parts and/or proven stuff to a hp that you can live with, toss the unobtanium parts.. big single, then water or methanol injection, then V8.
J Rat has been running 12 second quarters on an s5 with stock ports and water injection for a couple years without drama.

we are bbq'ing the 4th and the pool is open, come on out after noon and hang for a while. just a small neighborhood get together, you can eat and disappear.. Just a lot of 1st gen baby boomers + their kids. bring your dad and sister if they want to come.
