About 50,000 till I need a new power plant... what should I get? Am going LS1!!!JKJK
Tweakgames,
I really respect you bro. When i first saw all your threads, i thought you were a through-and-through rotary nut. Your dedication to building and sticking by the motors led me to believe you were like every other "rotard" out there. But people, seriously, listen to this guy. He's nailed it on the head. The rotary motor is different, yes. But that's about all it has going for it. I'm not saying being different is bad, but there's a reason for "mainstream". It means that it works, and works well for MANY people. I won't beat a dead horse, because i think tweak already covered in very good detail why going the rotary route can be rewarding, but only for short bursts between utter depression, and frustration. If you care to do the rotary, all the power to you, but heed the advice of people that have been there. That is, afterall, why you posted up, for peoples advice right?
Allow me to share my advice. I've owned an LS1 FC. I'm in the progress of an LS1 FD. For me, I'm intrigued by the rotary motor. I've yet to get super deep into modifying them, mostly because im wary from all the stories i read here on this forum. For me, i want to be able to enjoy my car without worry. I would like to just jump in the car, turn the key, and have very few worries that it's going to strand me out in the middle of nowhere. I'm in LOVE with the lines and the handling of the FD, i would hate if I despised it simply because the car always let me down. Transplanting a reliable, torquefilled and much more supported motor into this chassis was a no brainer for me.
Maybe someday I'll get into building a rotary motor, but I'm just worried about wasting tons of money, and being really disappointed when it doesn't perform even half of what a good piston motor will. So I hope you find what you want, but again, really take into consideration what others have been through, the experience of people who have gone through 10+ motors, or 350Hp rotary motors.

I need to vent....
I guess it has been pissing me off more and more, the more I am on this forum the more I don’t want to do work on my car... I mean hell we can see right here "mostly because I’m wary from all the stories I read here on this forum" He has no story of it going out on him, it’s all on you guys and how you promote the rotary motor and how it’s not reliable. He is not even giving it a shot he is just going right in to putting a LS1 in! COME ON! (Hey if you don’t want that REW I will take it off your hands haha) Tweak I will give you this, you have been working on rotaries a lot and I too have a lot of respect for you with what 10 motors under your belt, I mean hell you know what you’re talking about... But still with all the stories saying run away, I must say it pisses me off! Hell I was almost thinking about getting a S2000 today WTF! Just from the stories of RX's and how it will fail no matter what I do... unless I put pistons in, and am sorry that’s not going to happen to any of my 7's.
Hell the Rx7 is what the 2end most winningest car in history next to the 911? The motor is good! I bet I can make one last and be reliable no matter what people say and how it is impossible to do.
Get a 20B… and make it to 350-400 Hp… Now people will say “that’s stupid don’t get a 20b unless your wanting 600+, there is no point you can just do that with a 13b… ect”. **** that why get a small block when I can get a big block? Yes I could make the same power with the small block but I am having to do more work and making it work much more… I mean come on why would I when I can get the big block and make it work less, helping make it more reliable Hell even have a lot more have a lot more torque to play with right away.
Sorry guys I do thank you for taking your time to talk and post I just need to vent… and as you can guess it has not been the best of weeks.

Just close this thread, he is already gone. The rotard has moved from his lungs to his heart and brain. He is a goner. No matter what people show him or say matters. When a rotard says, "no, I don't care what everyone else says and what evidence they have to prove it, I can do the impossible, cause the 1000000 people before me must all be stupid", they are a goner.
This thread is now useless. I regret wasting my time trying to help you. I will be awaiting your fail "eating water", "90 90 60 compression?", and fs:20b thread where I will proceed to laugh until I **** myself.
I guess, I shouldn't be telling people about all the stuff I said above. lol. I need rotard to buy this RE build from me after it's done and dynoed.

Well I guess I am wasting my time on this forum asking about how to work and make a good rotary car because no matter what it will never be good... Cuz you know out of all the places I should be able to come, it should be here and talk with people who want to work with, love rotarys and make them better. Hell in truth all I ever get is discourage whenever I ask something and shot down.
But Tweak I do thank you for you time I know I have said it a lot but I do mean it. it was not a wast for me at least, you did teach and show me a lot. Its just been a bad few weeks... and it has had nothing to do with my car
but people telling me that its worthless and I should just get a LS1 in it has not helped... and a guy who is to worryed to even play with the motor just pushed me over haha.

Man I've been into my car for about a year now, I love the rotary. The sound, the power band, the feel, the "wtf" look as you drive past people. All of it.
If you like the rotary, keep it. I love it - and I doubt that will ever change. It's my whole reason for owning an RX-7. I own an FC because it's my favorite body styling of the 3 options.
If you love it, keep it. Just like a good woman.

Ahem...
I've owned an FC before this car. I swapped out the motor for an LS1. I've owned my FD for over a year before swapping it out. Don't assume I'm "afraid to play with it". Point is, i don't WANT to play with it. I enjoyed driving the car, but I HATED knowing that at any time it could flood on startup, leaving me stranded. Or a seal could blow out, or vacuum lines cracking, or ...on and on ... Why waste a ton of money, when i know the end result. Just because i haven't blown my paychecks, cried and bled rotary does it mean that I WANT the heartache that i see from others.
I guess its disheartening to see people that cannot take something from other peoples experiences. I read these forums for a reason. I would like to say that the success stories outweigh the "****, my motor blew" threads...but it simply isn't true. Don't say I've "not been there", or that I'm "giving up". Plenty of other people have wasted their time and money into a pit of despair. I guess I'm smart enough to take something from their generosity in posting these stories for us all to read.
By all means, do a rotary motor. In no way, shape or form am I going to talk you out of what you REALLY want. Some educated reading, some research, and some well thought out plans might net you a really fun, and enjoyable car...WITH a rotary motor. All the power to you friend. Just don't **** on the parade of others trying to give you some really good advice. (Especially people who have been there)
PS. My REW is for sale, if your interested.

i dont think people are specificly trying to discourage you, just trying to make sure you have all the facts before you make a decision about what direction your build is going, its not that the rotary is a bad engine, but it has its set backs and i think people wanted you to know all the facts, it is a funny change of pace tho to see people pushing the ls1 swap when a year or 2 ago any time i mentioned my ls2 swap to any rx7 guy i got asked "WHY?" every time. its just good to see that people are finally starting to come around and not be so ignorant about swapping the motor into an rx-7
Sorry cannibal I knew when I said “afraid to play with it” that it was a gross understatement and I do apologies… Its my Rotary Nazism showing its self. But at the end of the day it’s the sound the feel and the looks just like 1MZFE said we got a RX7 for the rotary.
I would like to say the car is like a Ferrari to me… its holy it’s something special that should not be messed with, putting a LS1 or anything in a 7 other then a rotary is like having a Hemi in a Ferrari… it’s just not right. But no matter how mean I am sounding or closed minded… I do respect what anyone dose to their car, if you love it enough to put money in to it and you feel that it is the best for you the go for it. At least we can all say we love the perfect lines of the 7’s... right?

Seems like your dead set on sticking with the rotary. I would say read up a lot and you can build a pretty decent motor. Its really your choice and you don't have to take what others say personal. My car was my first car I ever fully worked on. I took my time rebuilt things and went from there. I would say motor really depends on your power goals from what I have read. I have hung around the Single Turbo section a bit to get some input. Good luck on the build.
But you see its not about the cost Ferrari Vs a FD or FC. I come in to all this from more of a restorers mind set... the cars are not made anymore and they are not making anymore so the rotarys are something that should be saved and keep at least rotary powerd... I just feel when you put anything other then a rotary in it you do "bastardize" the car.
And I am sorry last I was on here I was kind of in a bad mood all week and I did not mean to take anything personal, It just kind of rubed me the wrong way at the wrong time... so sorry if I pissed anyone off lol we all have our weeks.
Thanks guys

You are not alone my friend when it comes to feeling that way.
I would personally much rather have the most perfect FD in the world, than the most gorgeous ferrari.
In fact if I had a ferrari, I would sell it and buy that FD.
AND keep it rotary. Always.

I like how people, we won't name any names, build rotaries to the hills then they blow up and they call the engine a piece of ****. When actually The engine works as designed, but its your flawed build that caused the engine to fail. Lots of people run these engines at High output with large turbo's and don't blow them up. Its just that people get bitten by the bug, then they turn up the boost, then what happens? Catistrophic failure. Becase the Engine was crap? No, because the Tuner/Builder wanted HP despite the fact that the engine wasn't designed or modified correctly to run at those elevated levels of output. This engine has proved it can handle it. Now can You?

Tweak wrote, "The rx7 isn't special, it wasn't specifically designed for the rotary engine...".
I completely disagree, The rx-7 is special and Was Specifically Designed for the Rotary engine. (but not by aliens)
If the RX-7 wasn't special, then so many people wouldn't try to keep them on the road with piston engine swaps and rebuilt rotary engines.
The RX series of Cars designed by Mazda were Specifically designed to encompass the Rotary engine powerplant.
Am I blinded by the Rotardness as its been called, yes and no.
V8 Rx-7's are potent competetors with the available Torque and HP figures associated with the displacement of the larger engine.
Rotary Rx-7's are, In my Opinion, what a Rx-7 should be. The rotary's smoothness, the sound, the ability to rev freely, the smell (2 stroke = yumm) and the ability to be a fire breathing, triangle spinning, tire shreading mechanical wonder that Most people have no working/mechainical knowledge of how it is even possible or what makes it work.
To the OP: 13b-REW would be sweet.
It was at Forged Performance Dyno Day meet in Troutdale.

Ive just wasted an hour of my life reading and re-reading this thread to come to one conclusion.....
really? then GTFO
seriously... leave....
SO many people are SO tired of you and your attitude you smarmy fu@k.
Bash the engine all day long, argue the point till your ***** turn blue and drop off, but quit treating people like dirt.
