First RX-7

My name is Alex I'm 24 years old, born and raised in the bay area. I have had many project cars growing up most of them not finished due to being reckless and other just got tired of it and moved onto the next one. This year with the help of my wife I have bought a 1986 FC Rx-7 rolling shell. This one will be different from other project cars I have had due to starting this one completely from scratch. The car is in pretty good condition over all other then some cosmetics like broken dash and paint but other then that it's pretty straight body i also bought it from the original owner so I will be the second owner on this beautiful car. The car is missing the engine but does have an automatic transmission which I will be swapping out and making it into a manual. My hope is to find a twin turbo rotary engine so I can get this car up and running. Once I get rew tires on it I will post a picture of the car.

Welcome to the forum!

I've seen hundreds of build that never get finished over the years for a few reasons. One of them having unrealistic expectations. Right now and probably for the foreseeable future, it is cheaper to buy a running driving car than to build one from a bare shell, as many of the parts for both FD's and FC's are no longer available (NLA...you're going to see that a lot). Another reason is due to lack of information. To my knowledge, there are no 13B-REW twin turbo FC's. You can do a REW swap and run a single turbo, but you would have to go with a aftermarket ECU, wiring harness, and some custom fabrication that would tally a bill worthy of buying a really nice all original Turbo 2 FC after it's all said and done.

I'm not here to dissuade you from your dreams, just wanting to keep you informed. The link below will help steer you in the right direction. Good luck to ya!!

Will a 3rd Gen RX-7 (FD) twin turbo engine (13B-REW) fit in my 2nd gen RX-7?
The simple answer is No! The motor mounts are in different locations as well as other issues; however if you have enough time and money it can be done. Much of the project will be custom fabricating all the systems that attach to the engine such as the exhaust, intercooler setup, cooling system and wiring. A standalone EMS is almost required and it is very difficult to control the sequential turbos. Most people go to a single turbo because of this. In general this swap is not worth the time and trouble unless you plan on making more then 450 HP.

Here is a basic write up: FC3S Pro v2.0:&nbsp Engine Swaps - 13B-REW Engine Swap

There have been many past threads covering swapping the 13B-REW into an FC:
