Introduction to a Leata RX
hello:
new member, first time poster. I've joined this forum, because i am using a rotary engine in my newest project car. I have been building hot rods and race cars for over 45 years. I recently sold my last hot rod to my oldest son to fund this project. The car that i sold was a 1955 chevy 2 dr. post.
The project that i'm starting is a car that i doubt any of you have heard of, it;s a 1975 Leata. (pronounced "Lee tah" --- told you that you hadn't heard of it.) If any of you are intrested in seeing one, google Leata, click on how things work, and there is a story and pictures of the car. By the way, they only made 22 of them, and it's the only car ever produced in Idaho.
This car has a 70" wheel base, 4 wheel independent suspension, 4 wheel power disc brakes, power rack and pinion steering, and a gross weight of approx. 1500 lbs. For the donor car I purchased a 1987 rx7 sport with a fc3s s4 13b n/a with a automatic and 3.909 rear gear, The engine trans and differential along with the passengers, all set between the centerline s of the front and rear axles, so it should have a great balance.
The car had 74,660 miles on it, but the previous owner replaced the engine after his son drove it home with a hole in the oil cooler line and no oil or oil pressure. He bought a new engine from Atkins rotary in Washington state. The receipt in the car that i found shows only 11,470 miles on the car since it was installed. The previous owner stated that the new engine didn't have any bottom end and wouldn't run until you get to about 3500 rpm. ( he forgot to put the sleeves into the #5 and #6 port openings.
I hope that i can get to cruise this car for about a million miles and meet all kinds of rx7 owners, cause you guys are intense about your cars.
Thanks Leata rx
