Saturdays In Raleigh, Nc
I don't know what to recommend. My turbo that is going in is a dual ball bearing, supposed to spool up really fast. Then again there really aren't any places that can rebuild them. I am just hoping that I won't have a problem with it for a while and by that time there might be some more places to rebuild them.

Bad news guys, Lucy, my baby, is dead as of today. Her coolant seals blew.
I'm in mourning and I don't know what I'm going to do. Anyone know where I can get a 12a block in great shape, please, please let me know. Thank you.

^ Sorry to hear that Lauren....Give steve (smoken) a PM. He mostly deals with FC's but he might be able to help you out.
I don't know if I'm gonna be able to make it this saturday guys....I've got to be in raleigh at 05:00 saturday morning for my physical....and it's an all day thing. I've been hearing that it's supposed to snow this saturday anyways...

Lauren, that hurts. I know your pain. I will keep an eye out.
TO, I would probably go with the ball bearing turbo. Not to sound ignant about the way of the turbo, but what are the downside that Rotorsports is telling you?
I got Rusty's email and I need to call him today to iron out the details.
Greg you are the man. Is it ok if I post that on some other forums and maybe print it out? I will give you full credit of course.
Personally, I am seriously thinking of downsizing. I need to call Sound Performance or Precision Turbo & find out what is the smallest turbo that will still work with my manifold. As long as I can break the 450RWHP mark, I don't need anything bigger and faster spool would be nice.

Saturday is looking very iffy at this point, with freexing rain and sleet possible I don't know if driving is gonna be such a good idea. I'll listen to the weather guessers tonight and post something in the morning. I was hoping we could meet about 3:00 pm and possibly get a drive-in done before the bad weather hit but from what I hear they are saying the bad stuff could start in the afternoon rather than Saturday night. Let me know how y'all feel.
Johny probably won't make it considering what they're predicting for his neck of the woods and Ryan says he probably won't make it either. The main reason for trying to have this meet was one last chance to harass Ryan before he goes on his long, all expense paid, military vacation and now that ain't gonna happen! Life ain't fair

Yeah Bert I was planning on coming but after looking at the weather, I might have to cancel. Remember I'll be in Slippery Sue. I look at the forcast again this evening.
Josh,
Downsizeing huh, Has T.O. scared you off? J/K Have you got our cabin reserved?

Well, I called them back and decided I wanted the Ball bearing option. I went in there wanting it, my friends said I needed it, but they siad it is very hard to repare and can get very expensive to repair, if repairable. And Bryan seems to hate the ball bearing option and I just fell victim to peer pressure. But I decided if I am going to go with a smaller turbo than others, I might as well spool up faster than them. Some of my friends said all they know is that a turbo is nothing w/o ball bearings. Well the good thing about the T-series turbo is that I can always switch out the intake side for a larger Turbo, so if I am not satisfied I can always go bigger. But hopefully it will do well with the 1/8th mile application I have intended for it. I also got the 45mm pro turbo smart wastegate for it, damn that thing is BIG. Well Munilla, I researched the whole A/R sizing thing, you were correct the smaller you go the less turbo lag, but also increased back pressure which can potential damage your engine. And with rotaries they suggest a larger A/R sizing RotorSports suggested a .96 and I have seen a .81 on here somewhere. I guess with the setup I need to run, to be competetive on my local tracks, 900 hp is out of the questions, because I can't use a turbo big enought to support that kind of power. With the larger turbos I wanted we were afriad I might not spool up quick enough, an 1/8th mile is pretty short, I might be lucky to get spooled all the way up by about 3/4ths of the track. But looks like I will be shooting for my more realistic goal of 650hp. What do you guys think that will translate to in terms of times? I know we have a great advantage, because we need much less power for the same times. I read in Modified mag about Jesus P. (not Christ
) has only got 354hp in his first gen and is running 9 second 1/4s that sounds crazy. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. If so I wil definitly be out there, so we are meating around 3:30, right? Well, like I said do to the turn around time it would take two months to do the manifold work so I am going to hold off on that. For now they are just going to clean them up and paint them. I might come back and do that work later but for now I just want to get the car running. I want to do the Greddy turbo on my RX-8, so the sooner I get the 7 running the sooner I can start on the 8 because I will have something to drive.

TO, yea after we talked I went and did some research of my own and found the same thing. That is why I am thinking of going with a smaller turbo instead of a smaller A/R.
The turbo I has works, and works well. I got to test drive the setup before buying it, so I have a pretty good idea of how it will perform. It is very impressive and turbo lag didn't seem that bad (perhaps since after 4K you are slammed back into the seat, and that was at ~10-12PSI). The issue is this; this turbo is capable of producing way more power than what I want. So if the spool isn't bad on this monster, then I would think it would essentially unnoticable on a smaller one. Less boost lag is always better.
However, I may keep the SP74 for the following reason: Jonathan(the guy I bought the setup from), was getting ~440RWHP with the slightly smaller T78 at 15-16PSI. It is nice to make big numbers without stressing the engine or turbos out.
Oh well I may decide after I get the whole thing back in and drive it. I have a good base map in the PFC which should give me an idea of what the car is going to perform like. My turbo will be worth the same then as it is now.
Johny, I have the cabin ready to go.
This whole weather thing bites!!! I was looking forward to seeing Scott and Ryan before the went on their all expense paid vacations.

Ball bearing turbos have so many benefits. Also, not to overstep my bounds, but it sounds like you enough $$$ not to have to worry about the repair costs, TO. I think you will be happier by going ball-bearing turbo.

What company makes your T78? That's one of the wierd things about turbos, evrybodies is different, one company may have a T78 that hits 600hp and then another, like Turbonetics, T-76 will hit 950hp, so when you someone asks what turbo you have you pretty much have to list out the company to get the whole effect.
ie:
person 1: yeah I got a T76,
Person 2: oh.
1: a Turbonetics T-76
2: DAMN!

Precision Turbo makes my PT74, but it has been modified by Sound Performance; that is why it is an SP74.
I am not sure who makes the T78; I only used it in my post, as a size reference. Even though the Sp74 has a lower # it actually has a larger wheel than the t78.

Yea, I wouldn't have said the same to an FD owner. TO, is modding an FC so I didn't know if he understood that he was stepping into the FDish CFMs, and that once you go past that threshold you can't stop and look back with regret....just go for it
Almost had an accident today on the way home from class because someone decided to merge ON me in my lane! Because of his lack of intelligence to LOOK before merging, the *** ran me off the road! Good thing I've taken her off-roading before today! ...Next time I'm giving sucky drivers like that more than just angry words!
And guess the funny part?? IT WAS A FORD F-150. BIG SURPRISE. *cusses at Ford*Do you KNOW how un-cool it would be for my YELLOW FC to be a speedbump on 401?? Yeah... not cool at all... you can't miss me, so how did THIS idiot not see me? I dunno... but tell you what... if you don't drive a sports car, you don't know how to drive! I never have problem with sports cars and NICE sedans. Just big 4 door "boats", vans, trucks, and 18 wheelers (yep almost got smooshed by one).
The only sports car drivin' people I can NOT tolerate are WOMEN. But yeah.
I definitely create an exception to that rule.
Women drivers. *growl* Ford drivers... *DOUBLE GROWL*
As long as we are bashing women drivers. During our last ice "storm" I almost got plowed by to women who didn't seem know how to control there cars; probably didn't have anything to do with the ice.
Anyways on another note. It looks like this mammoth turbo is going out the door. I was just on the phone with Sound Performance and he almost passed out when he found out the size of the turbo I was running. He said for my application and SP63 would be more than enough for what I am looking to do. He said that it could deliver up to about 600RWHP without a problem. Being that I am not looking to break the 500RWHP mark....EVER!! this should be more than enough and he said I could expect full spool by 3K. Which brings the question why would anyone want to keep stock twins?
Just thought you guys might want an update.

Well, my automotive stable currently includes a Miata (a short speed bump), an Excursion (a bus), and an FD (a long speed bump) .
I think I can safely say that there is no group immune to driving stupidity. Men, women, young, old, Fords, Chevys, Japanese imports, European imports, motorcycles - I've had them all scare me from time to time. All you can do is be very aware of your surroundings and expect people to be stupid. Old motorcyclists are a great role model - they have only gotten old by expecting people to open doors into them, turn in front of them, merge into them etc.
Doesn't make it right, but who said life is fair?

Yea, I talked to him today and we are waiting to line up the available dates for Dan & Bryan. I will keep everyone posted.
How many of us could make it down there on a Friday? Rusty said that often times Fridays were easier to coordinate than Saturdays.

Horse,
Ok you're running nitrous on your 8, so you're the only local guy I know of with nitrous on a rotary. I just bought a used NOS wet nitrous kit and it should be here soon. I've read several writeups about it and I think I have some decent knowledge on the subject.
My question is this: how does the car feel when you're actually running it under nitrous?Once I get everything hooked up right, can I just flip the arming switch and do a drag start without having to worry about any kind of engine damage? It should only engage at WOT, and I know I really shouldn't floor it under like 4000 rpm or something. As far as accessories, I'm going to be running a purge valve, and I may end up buying a fuel pressure safety switch. I'm also upgrading my injectors and fuel pump and getting everything dyno tuned. What is your setup right now? What accessories do you have with your kit? I've been told kits are never adequate right out the box, and since mine is used I expect maybe some stuff to be missing.
I'd appreciate any info or advice.

I would have to take a day off work, but that shouldnt be a problem.
I am trying to set the date as late in March as possible, but def want to get it in before april and the Deals Gap event.
