Old guys with 12As club meeting
yeah, i might try and come out, depending on the weather. but if i do come out, i'll most likely be in the boinger. it'll still be a 7 though.
Oh, got some bolts that worked for the split air pipe. they were M8s. so the exhaust is all buttoned up.

Hey guys, I've got another idea, let's use the scientific method.
First we create a hypothesis: Crit's backyard pressure gauge accurately measures rotary compression.
Then we do an experiment:

Now analyze the data. It looks like the needle is popping right around 80-85 p.s.i.
The White One is running like it just came from the factory so we can safely assume it has good compression of 90 p.s.i. (both rotors read the same). Thus 80-85 p.s.i. is about 90% of the expected 90 p.s.i for a 12A (about a 1-2% error, similar to Mike's calculation).
We can now calibrate the gauge: reading x 100/90 = actual p.s.i.
So for Mike's readings:
50 p.s.i. x 100/90 = 55.55 p.s.i. This seems low and, as a scientist, I am immediately suspicious (of course an engineer would go ahead and build the bridge at this point).
Here's my concerns:
1. The compression is the same on both rotors, virtually ruling out any specific mechanical damage. This result can only be real if both rotors have worn down exactly the same over a period of 25 years, very very unlikely.
2. Once started, the car runs strong, no real evidence of power loss that would come from 55 p.s.i. compression.
3. While Crit's gauge seemed to be working fine when I used it last spring, it has since been borrowed by about twenty different OGTA members. Maybe somebody pissed in the gauge?
4. Finally, are you guys REALLY SURE you had that thing in the right hole?
Jeff what's a boinger 7 ??? You don't mean.....

Ray, the gauge you're familiar with is now broken. We used a purchased boinger gauge for Mike's compression. The new gauge reads low for the reasons I described. While the engineer may have built the bridge anyway, the scientist used pi*diameter*diameter for the area of a circle.
I'm done.

Ah that explains it. You guys bought a shitty gauge.
Mike I'm sure the Gray Ghost is fine, just treat him nice for a few weeks, you might want to try a shot of Chivas Regal down the front primary once he's warmed up, that might do the trick.
CX-7 is OK, RX-7 with a V8 is not.

1) I used pi*radius*radius for the area of a circle. I did have a typo above in my post where I used the radius when it should have been the diameter.
2) No self respecting scientist would claim me. They don't teach this stuff in MBA school. I am actually surprised that Ray has put up with me this long.
But thanks alot for taking the time to respond. I did learn some thing. I knew I could count on the eng-i-neers.
I've been busy up here, hevan't even made some of our own meets much less an OGTA. Somday we'll all see each other again. In the meantime Ray heres a nice pic of my SA interior.
Thanks to Josh and Samantha who took em at our last big meet up at Lake Norman, also thanks to Sam for posting them up 3 months later.

Well, looks like I wont be able to make it out tomorrow, the Rx2's radiator developed a hole on saturday and finding one locally seems to be difficult. So ill have to order one unless I find a 79-82 Rx7 one for cheap. The Rx7 is down too with the front brakes off waiting for some line fittings that was an unforseen delay. Anyhow ill just have to wait til may to unveil the Rx2.
That's a sho' nuff pretty interior Tim.

Hey there's always ZoomFest this summer to justify a trip down to Georgia.
Looking forward to that RX-2 PureMdMa, it would be the first one with an engine to grace an OGTA meeting.
Mike, Crit, you guys totally lost me on the pie diameter pie radius stuff. Is that a kind of dessert?

Yeah when I saw pics of a new toy I said" He's gonna get into the new one and fall behind on the others" Just like I do
No worries, when ever you are ready I am.On the off chance, anyone in the OGTA area have a windshield for a s5 coupe 2nd gen? The wifes cracked...er, I cracked it
and noone makes a replacement according to SAFELITE..Any help would be appreciated. I don't mind driving.Dave
I'm getting a quote of $287 from Satellite out of Fayetteville Dave. How'd you crack that thing anyway?

But thanks for the link. I have a call into my wholesale parts guy and hopefully he will come thru. Thanks again
Dave, Andre just had the windshield in his vert replaced by B&B Glass in Statesville for less than $250. I don't know if the vert and the coupe are different, but you might try them for a chance. BTW, what's up Ray?

Ken Block's Gymkhana video, and a new bonus video of outtakes. The guy has impressive car control.

Thanks Ray. See if that would be a good cross-group meet. Like a killer summer bash. I would love to come down and see you guys again. Now that the FB is sporting the turn key fuel injection, she is so much more enjoyable to drive. I don't mind driving her long distances any more. Here's some recent pics of the new attitude............
