Oh yeah, the more the merrier - even if you are still building or thinking about buying a rotary. Now, keep the rules in mind for counting how many 1st gens are officially at the meet... Per our fearless leader Ray:

RX-2 = 2 1st gen RX-7s
2nd gen RX-7 = 1/2 1st gen RX-7
3rd gen RX-7 = 1/3 1st gen RX-7
RX-8 = ? (did you decide this?)

Now, Ray is going to have figure out how to account for RX-8s, cars under construction, and cars people are thinking of buying... Get to work Ray.

All kidding aside, as we get a little closer to the 8th we need to come up with a plan for food and drinks. It's really nice of Ray an Cathy to host us, but we do not want to be burden.

RX-8 = Boobie Prize. The friggin' thing has a back seat, too many doors and weighs a ton (probably more like two tons).

What we need is a 3rd gen Miata fitted with a 12 A, done renesis style. That would count as 1 1st gen.

Mike thanks for thinking about things that will make the day more fun. We will provide beer (not Bass, we drink blue collar beer out here in Jefferson), a hot grill and plenty of hot dogs and hamburgers. Specialty side dishes would bring a lot of praise, as would expensive imported beer.

My pleasure on the hosting, it will be great to have a day time meeting and see some new 7's.

Driftwood do try to make it, you might even find some FBs for sale.

Donny the dog leash is just advice, not a requirement. Our dogs won't be a problem, they'll be in the goat pasture with the goats. But remember, the road to wisdom is dotted with signs that say: "Prepare for the unlikely disaster", like dog fights, bites and other unexpected surprises.

Good to hear a bunch of rotor heads haven't gone into hibernation!

Just to clear this up for you, there are two ways to do this:

1. regular 2GCDFIS (what Ray is using). This uses the 1st gen ignitor to fire the 2nd gen coil (you don't need/use the ignitor part of the 2nd gen coil). This is easy to do and reliable. It is like swapping your stock coils to MSD Blaster2s for instance.

2. use the TT (also called 2GCDFIS w/ TT). This uses a circuit to allow the 2nd gen coil to be fired with the 2nd gen ignitor. The advantage of this is the 2nd gen ignitor is bigger, better, and keeps firing strong at high RPM. Basically it is like what Ray did + a bit more performance.

I would like to come down to one of your meets sometime to meet all you guys (maybe in spring?). It will be a long drive for me, but it would be pretty cool. Hopefully I would be welcome with my 13B. I do have an old 12A housing and rotor if that'll help me "get in" with the 12A group.

Dear Driftwood:

Good to hear from you and glad to see you logged on the club site. And yes, if your wife really loved you she’d buy you an Rx-7!

Actually they can be had for very reasonable prices, depending on condition. Ray found a very nice silver “Garage Queen” for $1,500.00. Of course be prepared to spend some cash on fixing it up. I’ve spent a grand this year on the fuel and exhaust system alone, and that’s with some used parts from Ray. However, the car’s now runs smoother then it ever has and burns much cleaner. Passing the EPA test every year is a big problem with these cars as emission parts are hard to find. Or, you can move to the sticks like Ray in Jefferson, Georgia.

By the way you’re welcome to attend our monthly “Old Guys” meetings on the first Tue. Of each Month in Suwannee. And we are getting together Sat. the 8th of Dec. for a cook out (see old guys 12a on website).

2gdfi

rxstacy

gsl-se addict did a good job explaining the difference between 2GDFI and 2GDFI with TT, as I understand it. The reason there is so much documented on this is that the whole thing started as an experiment. All the write up is tracking the evloution. A lot of the more recent write is about the TT, which allows you to eliminate the 1gen ignitor all together. It is really straight forward to implement. The only thing to watch for is how the 2gen ignitor is wired internally. They are wired 2 different ways form the factory. Jeff20B is a really good source of information and seems to have done a lot of the original experimentation.

"OGW12A Plan B"

Right you are Stu, we're on for Saturday, December 8.

You, being our Vice President, have a couch to sleep on, but others will need to bring cool weather sleeping bags and tents (plenty of room out back, or at the local Holiday Inn). Otherwise a DD is a must.

GSL-SE addict, we'll get you down here, maybe in the spring. You could combine the trip with some time up in the Smokey's, just north of here.

Thanks to you and Mike for clearing up the otherwise simple 2GDFI installation. Now, who can tell us what "TT" stands for? (let me guess, "twin turbo", but I've never seen one of these on a 12A).

But like Mike said, way too much yap has already been wasted on the subject, Just Do It!

A 2GDFI on an old school 13B? I don't know about that, better ask Jeff 20B.

An SA would be fine TG, old school. Yes!

Ray

Let's start with folks who might be coming - does any one have a spare leading 2G coil pack they'd like to part with for $20-$25? If not there are usually some available on ebay or if you post a request on the 2G parts section of the forum. I have one spare that can be used for test purposes and short term loan but I need it eventually for my silver 85 GSL.

Still no rain here in GA, we only need to hold out for another couple weeks to get a dry Dec 8.

Ray

I ALMOST scored a special appearance for the OGTA meeting. I got my REPU sniped from me on ebay with 30-sec left. If anyone knows of a complete REPU or RX-4, y'all let me know, okay?

Sound good, Ray. It would be cool to make a 3 or 4 day weekend out of it and visit the area. I am a West Coaster, so I haven't been many places on the East Coast, yet. Spring should be a good time to come down. It'll give me a chance to get some work done on the 7 over the winter.
