Yup, Michael pegged it. I'm hoping that's the only damage, the rebuild might just need an o ring kit.

I'm in Lawrenceville this week and am looking for something to do. What are some good roads to drive around here? I've always enjoyed driving through the road by the environmental center towards Satellite. Are there any other curvy low traffic roads around here?

So Ray how long have you been growing that tree to get it to engine hoist height?

Maybe you can still make it to DGRR.

I'm with you Mike, this weekend is prime time to do some RX7 bonding in the garage.

Didn't get much bonding time this past weekend. Damn yard. But tonight, some serious bonding with the 7. It might even cross over in to foreplay.

Collin, good to hear from you. Hope all is well.

GA Hwy 81 from Winder down to GA Hwy 20 (between Grayson and Loganville) is nice.
The back roads north of GA Hwy 20, between Grayson and Loganville are good also.

I think he's the pilot of Flight 370 looking for directions.

All roads lead to OGTA.

Hey, did you guys see that my UMass Minutemen and my Mercer Bears are both in the NCAA basketball tournament?

More than can be said for those Yellow Jackets or Bulldogs or Nittany Lions.

Can I remove the oil pan on an 84-85 without jacking the engine up? Can I remove the the steering linkage and get the oil pan out that way?

If anyone has tricks and tips to remove and or install the oil pan, please share, much appreciated.

Ray, I did not know you were a basketball fan.

Tim, thanks for the link, appreciate your help.

I found that thread and printed out. But, I thought I would engage the OGTA brain trust to see if there are other ways.

I'm sure, within a couple of posts, someone will tell me to pull the engine then the oil pan is easy to remove. Robert...

If you pull the engine the oil pan is easy to remove.

On the other hand, you can just undo those two nuts on the motor mounts and lift the 12A up an inch or two you can get to the oil pan bolts without even disconnecting the drive shaft.

I have a tree and come-along at my house that are specifically designed for the job, if you want to use them:

Easy to do, no need to lift engine, etc. just undo the 2 bolts that tie the steering link (or whatever it's called) to the frame rail and move it out of the way enough to give you room to pull the oilpan. Pretty self explanatory once u get under the car and look. Another suggestion is to use "the right stuff" to seal it back up...I've tried permatex gray before and it still leaked.

Does Alumaseal really work? I suppose if you put enough of it in it will seal up everything.

What's this road by the environmental center in Lawrenceville?

Good Rx-7 Roads;

I used to enjoy Stillhouse Road from the center of Vinings up toward Cumberland Mall. Have not been there in years. Don't know if they have changed it. I used to do it, fast!

I have had great success with Alumaseal. I tried it over a year ago when my 12A started drinking coolant, smoking, and it seemed to run on one rotor for 10-15 seconds on cold starts.

I have had no problems after using it

I'm having a hard time imagining how alumaseal can repair a compromised rubber O ring seal. Especially without clogging up other cooling channels.

In fact, several of the 12A housings I've recovered lately during tear downs even have some of those large water channels completely sealed off, can't be good for the engine. I wonder if alumaseal contributed to the condition of those 12As?

I suppose if you're trying to stretch out the miles on a beater high mileage engine without much rebuild potential it's worth a try.

But the more 12A innards I see, the more convinced I am that other than the dowel pin oil leak, which can be repaired with Eagle Stop Leak, it's best to plan a rebuild and save what you've got.

Brett, those rims are ugly. I can see why the guy never rode on them.

Craaazy wins the prize. I am going to give removing the steering linkage a go. It that does not work, plan B is to move Ray's tree to my garage.

Ray, when I saw those wheels Brett posted, I was tempted to buy them for you. Think if you saw them mounted on the White One Two you would fall in love....

What a fine first gen that would be... I googled those wheels and found that they come in white. They even have little circles around the rotor tips! Perfect for the white one II!

Since I'm at work, I didn't have an excuse to NOT make this

Be good for bird baths and fire pits.

Hey, do any of you OGTAs have a photo of what's underneath the dash of an S2 RX-7? Is it the shell structure the same as an S3, air vents etc?
