WI Get it on the road for next year. :-)

Might be fun to pull into dealerships with a First Gen Convoy, take over the parking lot and look at the new RX7/RX9s when they hit the dealer floor. Then convoy out.

I was talking to my neighbor, Sam Miller this morning and he is looking to own his 1st rotary powered sports car, or even entregued at the rotary pick-ups. I gave him an OGTA card for this site and let him know we are on Facebook too.
Sam and his girlfriend, Laura, plan to join us at the Tilted Kilt in August.

Dang. White with a sun roof, 1984 vintage. I'd be all over that if I hadn't just bought one, same color, same year, with the sun roof. I wonder if it's a GSL?

Holly if your neighbor Sam is looking for an inexpensive fixer upper, he couldn't go wrong with that one. Tom said he was looking for a project too, I wonder if he was serious?

Okay, is there a trick to bleeding the brakes on a SA? Found out my rear passenger wheel cylinder was completely blown out. Installed new ones on each side. Can't seem to get the brakes to bleed. Endless pumping with a tube in clean fluid and the pedal never stiffens up.

Well, I wonder who on here remembers me?

It's been a while guys. Multiple deployments, and being stationed 8 hours away makes for a long road trip for a meeting.

I'm back with questions about a project.

I just bought a '74 RX-4 rolling chassis from Juno (if anyone remembers her) but I'm having a tough time sourcing an actual RX-4 motor and trans. I saw a guy on here had put a TII from a second gen into his '74 RX-4, but how much work would be involved? I'm pretty sure someone here would have a good answer for me, and hell, someone here could probably even fabricate what I need to mount it up.

Hopefully I won't blow this one up too =/

Hmmm, sometimes the brake poportioning valve gets stuck such that the rears
never get pressure but then the pedal would feel ok but the rears wouldn't bleed.

Are you closing the bleeder before letting up on the pedal on each pump stroke?
If not the air will never get pushed out. I usually have my wife sit in the car and
I sit at the bleeder and we call out up/down and I close and open the bleeder as
needed. Remember, thats a really long path because it bleeds both rears with only
one side.

Quad, any 1985 and older 13B engine will bolt directly in. Any 1986 or newer 13B will fit if you use a GSL-SE oil pan and front cover.

The transmission you will need is any RX from 1972-1980. You can use one from 1981-1985 if you either, cut the shifter hole a bit rearward or modify the tail housing to move it forward.

If you go later engine (with electronic dizzy) you will need to remove the ballast resisters from the coils and rewire them as well as jumper the remote alternator regulator.

OR

You can sell me the car.

I'm betting it is from what I can see of the interior. If it's rear disc brakes, it's confirmed.

Crawled under mine yesterday while doing the coolant flush and saw the busted driver's side eBrake. May simply fix that cable for now until I get bank and time to replace a fair amount of rubber in the front end.

Taran, have you removed your rear storage compartments and inspected around the rear wheel wells for rust yet? Highly advised for any 7 that's spent more than one winter north of the Mason Dixon.

Even that white one in the ad from Cartersville GA looks suspicious, with those rust spots over the rear wheel well. It could be depressing, but best to catch that kind of thing early and get it remedied best you can.

Heh Quad, keep up the good work! We appreciate your service and your dedication to the rotary cause.

Do you have any pics of the RX-4 for us to see?

I'm planning to do that next weekend; yesterday I managed to flush the engine and look over the front underside. Ongoing pics here:

FB RX7 - a set on Flickr

Just about all the rubber in front is due for replacement. I'd say that most are 50% dead from salt and lock of shock oil. (I'm a firm believer in shock oil - all of my 4x4 vehicles overseas had no trouble with rot despite the mudding I did).

Front brake lines need to be replaced... that's in the shots....

Next project is seeing if I can fix the broken eBreak cable (for now) as well as an inspection of the rear.

Overall, I'm planning to wait until spring 2013 for a full revamp. It's driveable until then. By then I hope to have funds available to redo the entire suspension. (if the money comes earlier, hey...)

But now, I present the best buy I've found (while ordering the lawnmower belt for the waterpump):

Paid.... $0.01. :-) No rust, almost mint - that's not stock paint, wheels or tires.

Over the weekend I got a chance to tear down the three 12A cores that have been cluttering my yard for the last few years:

It wasn't a bad yield, I got the two good housings and rotors I needed. Two of the housings, the ones that came from the White One I, were toast:

Another pair, from the 12A that came with the car, were near the end of their useful life and not useful to me.

However the other two housings were very nice, nice enough to build a 12A with:

Size: 142.3 KB

Name: goodpair.jpg

And the rotors are in good shape too:

I'm as happy as a clam on an unpolluted beach. Tearing down and rebuilding my first 12A. Doesn't get any better than that.

I almost went all the way to Twisted Kilt tonight thinking it was the 1st. LOL. I realized it at work at about 4pm. But I really doubt I will be at the meet next week. I can't afford the gas all the way out there and back.

Cool Just came across Freedom Motors

...and I was looking at their engine series under development:

Rotapower Series

The pic floating around on Facebook is of the 65 lb air cooled wankel pushing 165 hp.

Dependent on powerbands and sizing... well.... I'll be keeping an eye on them.

Maybe in time for the 5th Anniversary OGTA meeting next Tuesday Alex?

I'd love to replace all my two cycle stuff with Wankels, starting with the wacker. I'd call it my Wankel Wacker.

Ray, you have to teach me how to post pictures in this forum.

I think you are on to something with the name "wankle wacker".

And the real beauty is that when you not wacking weeds you could put in Flipper and have a rotary to drive. What do you think the mpg is on the wankle wacker?
