It's a 2007 with 28k. Speaks volumes for GM quality, eh?
Basically, it's still under warranty...so yeah...stuck here in randomville Virginia until WEDNESDAY!
That sucks. Too bad it was not in a place that you always wanted to visit.
So it must be a gas burner, 1/2 ton? Was he pulling a load?

I was driving, my dad is back in GA.

Gas burner for sure, it's a big like 5.7litre.. was towing a small enclosed trailer that was empty, so no real issues there.

Not a good picture!
If it is an automatic then hopefully you had the tow button on. Even though the trailer was empty it is like having a big parachute back there, add the interstate speed 70-80 mph and over time can ruin a tranny.
Back when I had a V8 chevy Z71 I could feel the difference when I had my trailer on the back that had a wire mesh basket rack that stuck up 4 ft off the trailer. I could not go over 75 with that trailer so I took the plasma cutter and removed the basket.
Now we have two diesels 3/4 tons and even thought they can pull anything I use the tow mode all the time, and even service all my trannys every 25k miles. I do that because when I was a mechanic in the early 90's the service intervals was 12-15k miles or once a year. Now manufactures are saying 40-50K miles is ok, but if you notice there are more tranny shops now then there were in the later 80's early 90's.

I was using tow-haul as Chevy suggests. I also drove several miles an hour under the speedlimit and kept the dash computer on trans temp to keep an eye on it to, and it was perfectly normal, even going up the mountain (Which it only went up three degrees)...it only started to rise after the transmission began to slip.

We're having quite a lot of trouble getting a rental car... there's only one place within quite a distance, and that's enterprise... All their cars have been reserved or are rented out. We're waiting for the first car to come back... could be a Chrysler Aspen...If not, then it'll probably be an Impala, Aura or Caliber. Personally I'm hoping for the Aura but whatever we can get is whatever we can get, there are no options... We're stuck here.

I've been doing a lot of reading and apparently this is a somewhat common failure on these trucks, regardless of towing or not, normal driving or mountain driving... Seems the clutch packs are weak from the factory so shifting would be smoother with less shock and in return they just can't handle much of anything. In fact, the press truck when this generation Silverado was released had the transmission fail in this manner.

It'll be Monday before the truck can be looked at by a service tech, they don't work weekends apparently.

All in all I'm pretty frustrated. Five days in this crummy hotel which GM *WILL* be paying for ("Trip Interruption, warranty"), and nothing to do.

Read the text right before the picture about the extra turbo

http://atlanta.craigslist.org/cto/1208468410.html

And Colin (with the black S5 RX7) I found a shifter plastic surround from an S4 in my parts car that you can have. It doesn't have the leather boot though. I forgot if you needed that or just the leather boot...

And Kevin, your picture by your name looks like something 20 clowns would crawl out of at a circus

Saw another first gen owner at Taco Bell today. I handed him an OGTA card and he said he's gotten one before. I told him that it was my doing haha. I wanted to talk to him about his SUPEr clean S3 GSL. The interior and exterior is immaculate. He was in the drive through and seemed more interested in getting his food than talking 7s. I also think he has a relative with a really nice green (Montego Blue) FD cause I put the first OGTA card he got on his car at his house, and the aforementioned Fd used to park there years back. I also saw a red 2nd gen vert accross the street that has flashed his lights at me on the road before. I put a card under his wiper as well. I hope the OGTA continues to grow.

If you own either one of those cars I mentioned please post, and soem pics are always appreciated.
