I ran 4 oz of Sea Foam through with the engine running. Then I marinated the rotors in 8 oz of Sea Foam over 4 days, spining the engine a couple of times a day. Last night, after it got dark, I was trying to not alarm the neighbors too much, I fired up the Ghost. He started right up. No choke, no ATF, no pumping the throttle. He spewed white smoke for about 15 minutes. The Wankle Wisper would have been proud of the plum of smoke the Gray Ghost belched out.

After sitting for 4 days it was time to take the Ghost and stretch his legs. We took a spirited run out to the Jefferson exit and back. He cruised comfortably around 80 and pulled hard over 90 a couple of times to get around traffic. Even in 5th at high speed he had something to give. Not bad for a 25 year old rotory with 260k on him.

The maiden voyage, after 4 days in the rotory spa, was very encouraging. It is a little early to say the Gray Ghost is back, but so far the signs are positive. Some of this could have been due to the proximity to the rotory center of the universe (Jefferson, GA).

Hopefully, I can make it out the next OGTA and you guys can lay hands on the Ghost to complete the healing process.

 

the coils are fine. i'm geting ready to eat some lunch and get back to work on it. i'm pretty sure i hooked up the pump correctly, otherwise i probably would of ran into some re mounting issues. either the pump is no good, or the tank is empty b/c there is no fuel shooting out of the main line. the filter is ok, i didnt have this issue before i changed it. i replaced the pump b/c i was having a nasty sputter going up hills and at high rpm.

This sounds like a fuel starvation problem. Like Ray said, I also have changed a couple of fuel pumps also only to find out it was either a bad fuel filter or a vacuum leak. If you have not changed that fuel filter I would do that. It is cheap and easy. More gas in the tank can't hurt either.

 

Hey uh Crit, I'm going to need your help rebuilding my carburetor. The autocross caused a fuel leak coming from the bottom of the carb. I don't know if it's some gasket, the float bowl floaty thing sticking or what.

well i ended up puting the old pump back and so it turns out, that used pump i bought was no good. i went ahead and replaced the filter like y'all said and guess what...no more sputtering!

What you should order is entirely dependent on what's wrong. That kit you linked to includes fuel crush washers, fuel filter basket, main gaskets, accelerator pump, jet o-rings, needle and seat. The only things missing are the float itself and a few odd screws, which you shouldn't need. The needle and seat included in the kit would take care of any sticking float issues, though that doesn't seem to be the problem. Order the kit and come by some time - we'll get it sorted.

 

FYI Jeff, that's true of the carbureted cars. Your trailing coil supplies the signal to the tach and the "heartbeat" to the ECU so it knows when to fire the injectors. Your fuel pump is done differently, and the relay is thrown when the ECU has power and is either cranking or the AFM door has been deflected. GSL-SE fuel pumps aren't tied to the trailing ignitor, but the injectors are.

For the FD? Stock mounting location? I think " turbojeff" has or had templates or "kits" available a few years back when I was thinking of that batt. Now I went with a yellow slim optima in the bin.Only problems with the odyssey's is that they go dead if not started or kept on a tender.IMO

Nah, for the lotus. The stock battery is proving to be not well suited to the car. It spilt some acid yesterday. Also broke free of the mount at one point (mount tight). A piece of crap duralast was put in there. Doesn't seem to grab well.

Either way, want a dry/gel type, and a better mounting system. The odyssey with its optional mount has proved to work well.

So aside from the flooding sunroof, my car's doing something else funny now. It cuts out (like every electrical component shuts off) for a half a second, then goes on fine like nothing happend. That happened three times today in around a 30 mile drive. And today at school it left me stranded for a good half hour. It's like the battery just isn't even there- turning the key does nothing, but the battery is fine. When I tried kick starting it, it wouldn't fire, like the injectors weren't even working. But the harsh kicking made something connect, because all the gauges snapped on and it started with the key. I'm guessing it could be the ignition since it's 2 decades old, but I know nothing about that. And it's sort of hard searching for an answer on here, because the only search term I can think of is 'no power'... Anyone?

loose or corroded battery terminals/connectors. its also possible if the battery is one of the "wet" types, that its low on fluid. how old is the battery?
