Nope... toy in the garage.

Wow really? I bet you get a lot of "what the hell is that?" kinda interest. One question I never tire of is when people ask, "Is that thing a turbo??"

"Yep...."

Up on the schedule this weekend for the Cheeto... Alignment! Carb rebuild and tune! And if I have time, oil change and clutch slave rebuild! Maybe a radiator swap? Or even some rear carpet, depending on what's left at PaP.
I have to disagree with this comment. You have much to learn young skywalker, yes, much to learn ! haha For real , 1st gens have double the running life of any second gen and they cost less to mod. Which car holds more world records? " thank you - come again "

hey, I rag on first gens because I love them. Realistically, I think the 12A is the most reliable rotary that Mazda has ever produced. And the S3 13B is probably in second place. That and with simple exhaust, fuel pump, and some tweaking, you can push 25% more power out of the 12A. It also can get better mileage than most rotaries if you know what you're doing.

I might hate them later today though, because I'm putting the Nikki carb I just rebuilt back into the Cheeto and redoing what's left of the vacuum system. So naturally something will go wrong and I'll be out their cursing Mazda and probably someone's grandmother just for added effect.

I haven't even moved it without using my legs yet, Cody. I did get a good look at it today, and it looks like a lot more work when it's out in daylight! For one, the gas tank has a hole in it. The guy patched it, but not that well. Still haven't decided if I'm gonna buy new plastics or try and repair the old ones. Everything is ziptied on! I wouldn't be surprised if the motor was too. Right now I need to get a book for it, and then a helmet.

Damn Jimi, what'd you trade for the pos bike? And no, alot of people know what it is suprisingly enough...and not many ask the turbo question since the BOV is quite audible. Played with a new STI friday afternoon and found out the upper limit of 5th gear is about 125mph....but it sure gets there in a hurry, but sadly the NA could walk it after that.

POS!? I kill you. I traded a small amount of cash. It's actually in really good shape mechanically. The motor has around 500 miles on it. The forks look new, and the brakes are in really good shape. So all it really needs are new plastics*. So I still have both of my rotaries and a bike to play with. Don't know if I'm still going to sell the Cheeto or not.

It tops out at 125?! The Cheeto would walk it after that. And maybe my bike if I knew how to ride it, I dunno. I'm not even sure how many gears it has at this point

*EDIT: And some work to the tank, because whoever did work on it didn't do a very good job. It's a good thing I can do that kind of stuff.

Well the bad head started spewing out clouds of evil stuff out the exhaust so at 125mph (aka 5.5k rpms) I decided that was enough and I wasnt going to push it farther than that before I really blew it up. So Ive learned even more that rotary>piston as far as reliably going to redline and sticking it there for long periods. Still gotta swap that head out...maybe in a couple weeks when money aint so tight and I can buy the studs instead of the shitty stock 'torque to yield' bolts and get a proper metal head gasket and stuffs. But even so, playing around and not really babying it until it was warm still gave me 23mpg and a 400 mile trip meter...

*edit* Fairings are not cheap Liz, and that tank....I suggest getting a new one OR when you fix that one, send it out to be re coated inside or else the fix wont be fixed for long.

Definitely right about that, I was always afraid to rev my Supra up past 5, even before it started knocking. I don't trust all those little parts moving so fast! The sevens, I'll just hold it at 7k and sit there and let the junk in the motor get cleared out. No problem. I took the TII out yesterday and it ran like a dream, no fuses blown. I'm sure it's just waiting for me to take it to work or something to start blowing more fuses.

I can't wait to see what kinda mileage the Cheeto will do after I finish all this crap I'm doing to it. And hey Cody... alignment? Also I might be interested in buying your helmet.

what kind of helmet and size Jimi? One of my aunts buddies bought a ton of helmets from Mountain Adventures Honda in seveirville a month or two ago and ended up with a couple hundred helmets for the cost of one new one... hes selling them 20 each or 2 for 35...He said he had a few full face Snell rated helmets in almost all sizes, after I asked him about them for autocross of course.

On the other hand, I do plan on buying a full core motor to build up for the quest eventually, and having it done proper for higher than stock rpms. Plan is to keep the car on the mild and streetable side, wheras the 7 is going to get a bit wilder as far as im concerned with it.

What brand are they? I'm looking for a full face medium. Think you could bring me one at the autocross?

I dont think im gonna make it to t his weeks autocross, but ive seen them, and they are kinda on the plain side but entirely usable, some are a bit scratched from apparent 'use'(probably from learning programs.) But Ill see what i can dig up, any particular color(s) youd like? I know there was a white one that I could get tomorrow without having to go out to gatlinburg to pick up, and it was a white full face Medium with DOT rating and Snell rating of M

White will do fine, since I'd probably paint it to match my bike, which has yet to be painted so who knows what color either will end up... anyway, yeah... I think for autocross, it needs to have a snell 2000 rating or later, right? I think it's 10 years for SCCA.

I think 2000 is what youd want since it is a 10 or 15 year thing i forget...
but the helmets are'nt THAT old so hopefully you can get some use out of it....I <3 full face helmets...totalled out a 4wheeler years ago and a full face bike helmet saved me from anything too serious when I landed headfirst into a graven driveway.

Do they have vents on the front? Also I dunno how I'd get it from you if you're not gonna be at the autocross.

A helmet would be good... laid the bike down once already today while Cody was watching. I didn't realize how bad I got hurt until a little while ago... got an 8 inch long 2nd degree burn up the inside of one leg from the exhaust... thought it was road rash until I realized it was blistered! Also got some deep cuts on my hand from rocks in the road, some scrapes here and there, and the bike kinda crushed my ankle. That all felt really good in the shower a few minutes ago!

But more importantly... the bike is okay! It was already scraped up where it landed so no big deal.

Well I frequent thru Ktownn every now and then so it shouldnt be that hard. And yes they have vents in the front. And that is why you go out and get good gear, at the very least some leather to soak up that burn man. Just think how them harley riders feel when they lay there **** over on the dragon going 30ish mph and you were just doing what....5?

Cody says I was going 5, I'd like to think I was at an all out 7 mph. Yeah, I know... I'm looking into gear. I almost got a riding jacket today but someone else bought it up before I could grab it. If I had been wearing pants, a jacket, and gloves, I wouldn't have any injuries minus the smashed ankle. Let me know when you're gonna be in Knoxville next and we'll work something out.

Yeah, it's that 12mmx1.25 I believe. I'll probably have a helmet before you get out here but who knows.

Yeah well, sometimes necessity > price. Also I don't know anything about the helmets you've got so if I have to pay more for a reputable name brand one then that's okay. Before I ride I have to address the throttle cable tension issue. I might just replace the entire right handle and be done with it.

Is the tension too slack or tight?

On an odd note...after not driving the 7 for almost 2 solid weeks it felt wierd to sit in it and move it around the driveway. Gas pedal was more 'loose' than the quests, clutch was tighter, brakes firmer, seat felt too close (which is odd since I sit even closer in the quest) and the shifter felt too stiff LOL
