Nah liz, I just didnt start the car for the last photo's, though notice how the stock oil pressure gauge sits well below the zero mark while the rest sit at the zero position. Its the only one of my stock gauges that are total ****, my fuel gauge even reads from full all the way till 1 gallon left (which is below E)

welcome to the board RU, threads not old, its aging jussssssst right....
well maybe it is a bit old but still good enough for us. Sadly I cant quite use your services as I dont own a 1st gen, only an FC and soon a Conquest.

Welcome. This thread is pretty ancient, but in a good way. It's experienced. Do you have a shop? There's always people asking if there's a shop they can take their 7 to locally. Everyone here does their own work because there's no one else to do it for 'em. I had a guy just the other day ask me if there's any place around Knoxville that can work on first gens.

My OP gauge in the Cheeto sits below zero most of the time. Damn thing. Every once in a while it'll start working. Maybe one of these days I'll replace the sending unit. My fuel gauge in the TII is deadly accurate. When it hits E, it runs out of gas. Right then. E = "Get out and push."

Well Jimi, does your "Fuel" light turn on in the idiot cluster at all? I know when mine turns on I have 2-3 gallons of go juice left, and ive driven with the light on from work to home ad back again (40+ combined miles) and filled up with 16gal. of gas afterwards. And yet another reason turbo sevens kinda deter me right now.

I do the work out of my home , just as most of you do . I work on them becuase I wouldn't trust anyone else in this city to repair or upgrade them , in the years gone by I have owned 6 1st gens and 2 second gens . And I have converted a few 3rd gens to single turbo for people . Currently I have a 1983 FB GSL rearend for sale along with new rotors , a few ods and ends like a gls-se motor complete with wiring , power steering box ect , give me a shout guys if you need anything " RotaryUnderground@yahoo.com "

Yeah , if the tank was ever removed chances are the sending unit could have been damaged , but then again its age would also be a source . It could also just need some clean up around the connection area at the sending unit , but just prepare for the worst and get ready for tank removal , while you have the tank out its a good time to have the inner liner reconditioned .

The fuel pickup tube inside the tank can be bent very easily , you can raise and lower its position " somewhat " . I would also imagine that the gap could be different from car to car from the factory . So if you raise it you will still have plenty of fuel you cant use , lower it and you can use everydrop . Depending on the year and tube type it could also restrict the flow of fuel . A great way for 1st gens to improve fuel flow is to swap in a SE pick up and tubing .

My fuel light is intermittent and not to be trusted. I've had it come on at 3/4 tank a couple times. Basically the TII's way of saying I don't feed it enough.

Thanks for all the info RU. Tank looks original. Needs to be replaced eventually anyway. I can't change the pump on the thing because the screws are rusted in place at the top. This is all in the 2nd gen, by the way. 1st gen's tank seems to be in good shape, and it's got a fairly new Carter pump under there. Interesting note about the SE tubing, might have to try that if I ever put mods on it. Right now my FB is for sale though.

What are you driving, RU? Seen a few first gens around town, maybe one was yours.

Yeah because we all know this car held its own secretly in racing history ........" not " shhh dont tell anyone ! But hey, this car jump started the later develpment of the eagle talon tsi . Too bad Mitsubishi makes " epic fail " transmissions . otherwise you would see more of them at the track today . Overal its a rare car that dosnt need much work to make great power but finding parts is a hassle , deffinately worth it . I have seen a few guys in the knoxville area hanging out with these .. that was a few years ago . I wonder if you are seeking to modify this car or restore it ? Either way I am sure it will bring some fun ! ps. I cant remember how accurate this is but , I was talking to those guys and if I am right a newer Evo head can be machined and fitted to this block , not sure how much work it would be , might be worth looking into ...

It also has a super trap exuast cap , rb roadrace headers and 3 inch exuast tend to be slighly ear shattering " haha " Ironicly it was a Mazda of Knoxville car . second owner .

Huh, don't think I've ever seen that car, unless it's the one that's always at the Mellow Mushroom in Farragut.

Apparently there's a much better looking clone of my car out there running around. Same creme color. I'm gonna have to hunt him down, can't have any Cheeto doppelgangers running around.

Woot im back guys.

the Conquest is "FUN"! and more fuel efficient than my fc even while burning a bit of oil. As for plans for the TSI, its going to remain mostly stock until my fc is done, then I might either keep the 2.6L and add a beefier turbo and FMIC OR swap a 4G63 into instead and have a better platform to work with. But that wont be till after other things get done. As of right now the only thing the car needs is a shot of paint (only one dent and 3 minor crust points), a set of guages, new tires/brakes, and I need to go thru all the parts that came with it and then order some gaskets to swap heads out and do an oil change and redo alot of the wiring, and get it its own Optima, stereo, and swap out the ugly conquest steering wheel for one that sucks less.

Its in fairly good shape for the $1000 I gave for it, and after filling the tank (17+gal from E) I still have a bit over half a tank after running 250 miles from Woolwine, VA. back to Dandridge, TN. So expect to see the beast at a meet or autocross eventually.

Wow, that chart is off quite a bit. 60-0 for the 7 is more like 120ft and the skid pad should be over .9gs. That's advertising for you.

Does anyone know if the Knoxville/Knox County/East Tennessee cops use lidar or radar? I'm contemplating getting a detector and if I get one it'll be a nice one (V1).

Yes it was the same car , its been my daily driver for 6 years . This year I am cleaning the car up a bit and swaping in rebuilt gsl-se trans & rearend/frontend with 4 links , converting to a 3 link type , and upgrading to respeed coilovers w/ new shocks . The 12a still runs strong and Ive modded the fuel system a bit to make up for the exaust . I can't wait to use the 4.33 gears and upgraded posi unit it will make a great 1/8 mile / autocross car . I have a super rare 4 port low mileage motor that im going to experiment with . If I can't find anyone who wants the stock gsl-se motor I will probly make it a pp motor with different internals . But seeing as the motor " complete " is so rare I would rather not do it . I am always buying and selling rotary parts . Thankfully I know a few oldtimers around knoxville who keep my supply moving along nicely .

Sure was. The infamous "Neato Cheeto Bandito." Take it you saw it around when it was half-n-half?

Rob just get a V1, itll be more detector than any of the cops around here can handle, the only 'radar' that's going to **** anyone hardcore is the "Laser" since its going to ping you with almost no warning except for a lucky redirect off another car.

Alright, who did I pass tonight on Walker Springs around 1am? It was another first gen, didn't realize it until I passed right by it.
