Some more food for thought.
I just put 500 plus track miles on a 13 year old sports car that was running faster laps than just about every car on track other than a few Z06s, some gt3s, and other misc racecars. I seriously never lifted or gave the car a break unless I got caught in traffic. The track record for SM at VIR is a 2:18. My stock r1 was running 1 or 2 seconds faster just about every lap on victo racers boosting 8psi. I still have the same pads (they were about 20% used BTW) and never suffered any brake fade. I was using some hawke blues front and back. The car never had heat trouble in 85 to 90 degree weather. What the hell am I trying to say? OK, basically this is it, the stock R1 that we all know and love is still and always will be one of the best track cars ever made

Well I just got back from SPR and I again managed to **** up the best video but oh well **** happens. I did get some video of me trying to fool w/ and Audi racecar but that was soon a fruitless endeavor.
The driver of the racecar was the chief instructor who was driving it for the first time so I had a slight advantage until he figured out where the controls were. He lets me by and then I let him by and when he passes me he misses 3rd and I almost tag him (jk it really wasn't that close) hehe
I was running consistent 1:27,28s but my times were better in the morning because it was cold and my tires were not quite as worn but as I mentioned I screwed up the video so who knows for sure.

I was trying to download the mustang video for one of my buddies at work and realized that it never uploaded correctly. Fortunately I didn't record over the tape and uploaded it again tonight. If you like track action you'll love this one because the mustang driver is ***** out going up the ESSES and gets about 6"s of air.
Mustangs are not the best track cars and I can barely get by him because he's one crazy bastard. The lap after I pass him I run a 2:08 lifting at the top of the back straight and just after the tower on the front. Running on $100 new 265 35 Dunlop SP racers HEHE
Seriously not funny these tires are the best HPDE tires ever made. Tuff as nails with decent stick.
Anyway check it out. It's titled: Audi VIR WATCH THIS

Theres a reason you dont see RX7s with piston engines racing in anything but a straight line...

I can't wait to see an LS1 in an FD on a road course. It should be REALLY really fast if driven hard. I would also like to go for a ride in one to feel the difference. It just might be worth it hehehe

The first day was pouring rain. Second day was foggy, giving way to clouds.
It was my first (and only) time on the track with this car. FYI…car has stock shocks and springs (see that weight transfer). Yok AO32R's 245-45-16. stock rear bar and Suspension Techniques front 1 1/4 inch bar. No ABS. Porterfield R4-S pads. I'm having some fuel pressure issues right now so I probably won't have any more track events this year

Nice vid
I hope that when I do see one of these cars it's not from the instructors seat
Your instructor probably wore a diaper the 2nd day.
Seriously though that was some great driving for your 1st event.
I have some great coilovers if you decide you need some. Tein REs or JRZs

I'll let you know when I get mine done. Hopefully I'll have it running in two to four weeks so I can take it in for paint and exhaust. I'll just have to find an event at vir that your instucting at that I can make it to. So maybe in 2-3 months. Mike

LOL, I should of known during the 4 wide section that you were driving in the advanced group. I just kept thinking damn this dude can really drive for his first event and that instructor must be saying all kinds of prayers.
Anyway that thing is a beast and once you have it sorted it will definitely leave quite few people scratching their heads

Hopefully you can make it to the Z-club event in February on the Full course. Anyway when your ready let me know so we can hook up.
in the vid with the yellow audi, what tires were you on? how much power do you make?
i have been told that if you put tape over the microphone, it reduces that wind buffeting noise; haven't tried it myself yet though.

The tape thing works ok but I'm going to come up with a better solution eventually
This car has a t78 and was boosting about 10psi (probably about 320 at the wheels) that day with used victo racers. I think I was running around 2:10 to 11s without pushing too hard. If you haven't figured it out yet I'm a cheap bastard so my tires are usually used and not the best hehe
Although for the coming Audi event I'll have some decent hoo hoos and can't wait. If the weather is good I'm hoping for a 2:05 or 6 on the full course.

fritz, i posted up another video i think you'd like, as well as very interesting LS1 corner weight info in an FD versus stock FD:
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...27#post4927527
I'll update with official times when they are released, but my fastest time was 54.0 and his was 56.0. His tires were way better than mine, no comparision. they were wider and stickier. My yok's are hard compound and are better on road courses than autocross. He is SCCA SS class driver that is original owner of the car, which is 93 R1. He races full season and competes in Kopeka, but this was my first autocross of the year!! and my first time ever autocrossing any RX7. He has stock R1 springs (stiffer than my stock non-R1 springs?) and $2400 koni custom valved double adjustable shocks and i have 13 year old stock units. The lack of ABS in my car definitely hurt my times as the video reflects constant right front tire lockup (dusty course, need new bleed because i just installed new master, need to adjust proportioning valve, who knows). He loved the car and how it felt on the course so that means a lot coming from a die hard rotary owner/racer. Just listen to his own words at the end of the video.
