Thanks for the bump lol

Did Jim ever finish his car I haven't been following that one?
I just put up another VID of me following one of those rx8 race cars. Lots of smoke and fire.
Video is titled THSCC VIR N 4-06 RX8

After being at the track for the first time since 98, I can't figure out the reason for the long absence of track time. Oh wait, I got married in 98
and she's finally letting me back outside!
Fritz, what car are you driving in that video? Like Jim's V-8 thread, I can't keep up with the car changes you've made since posting vids. You up to 3 cars now? 4 that you've tracked?

Regarding the cars that's a good question, I'm not sure if I remember myself lol

Since this thread began I can recall driving 9 different FDs on the track.
The car in the most recent videos is Gene Felbers old car and it's a well sorted track car.
oh jeez, another car in the hands of Fritz. I think you've had Brad Barber's, or was it JVOB, Wael's, now Gene's. When did you buy Gene's? What did he get to replace it. How much was the shipping since last I heard, Gene was out west.

Gene arranged the shipping and I think it was about a grand. I bought the car as soon as Gene put it up for sale
He gave me a great deal and it was a very smooth transaction from beginning to end considering he's in Washington. I don't think he's replaced it yet and as you can imagine with all the cool cars available today he's having a great time trying to figure it out but I'm betting he goes with a V8 3rd gen.

Last weekend was the Audi event on the Full course at VIR and I love that event and didn't want to miss it so I was desperate to find a car. I had several cars in mind but settled on looking at and eventually buying a couple in NC on the Sunday before the Monday Tuesday event. So I drive down and pick up a nice low mileage daily driver and then head to Grant's place further S to check out his track car which turns out to be really nice so I decide to buy his also. I load it up and head back arriving home at 10:30.
The following morning I wake up at 5am and off I go knowing I'll arrive late because I had to go to work for a bit first. I arrive at 10 unload and head straight for some track time but had to end the session early because of temps. Next session I go a little easier but have to end early because of fuel cut. These two problems flip flop for the rest of the day.
The following day is hotter and the temp problems are out of control so I end up leaving early
This is why I'm a self diagnosed track ADDICT:
I drive 720 miles and buy 2 FDs in hopes of making a track event to drive for a couple hours at speed. I've decided I MIGHT be a very SICK bastard
I just sold Grant's car to another wild man who's going to put a V8 turbo in it and really have a mod fest. There's no doubt that the famous quote "racing/cars make heroin addiction seem like a small craving for something a little salty" is SO true.
I only videoed one session which only lasted 15 minutes because as discussed the car was having some temp issues.
Anywho this ones for GRANT
Thanks for the deal and this might be the last time your baby sets foot on a road course. However she'll still be a racer just a 1/4 mile at a time.

Had a great time with the Porsche club on the VIR full course. I was driving Gene's old car and it ran well. Lap times were 2:09s and 10s which is decent considering my max speeds were 150 and my tires were near deaths door. I left early Saturday because I was sliding around so much I thought the corners workers were about to black flag me lol
I of course had my usual mishaps. Pulley nut came off of all things. Drove around Danville for 2 hours trying to find the nut with no luck and eventually settled on using a hose clamp which actually worked hehe.
Video is up of me getting waxed by a cup car.

Some of those cup cars blaze around there. There was a 3 pack of them running at around 2:05. Those ******* go about 175 down the straights not to mention they pull some mad Gs.
What boost are you running on Gene's? 11?
I'd say you're 1 set of fresh hoosiers (you know the cup cars have them), 1 set of JRZs (the cup cars have them), a GTC wing (paint brad's black, slap it on), and 4 lbs of boost from spanking that guy's ***.
if you're at 2:09 now, the rubber and boost alone ought to bring 2 secs. at least.

Car seems to be running well though my temps never went over 190 and it was about 75 ambient. More boost would be impossible though with temps in the 80s and up.I'd put the wing on it but I drive it around town and get enough crazy looks as it is.
One of these days I'll have some JRZs again but currently the GABS with GCs are getting the job done and those super Rs are tuff as nails.
This car needs some sways which I have I just need to bolt em on. Without the stiff sways the turn in is amazing though lol. Currently I give a little input correct, input, correct etc....so I'm sort of wiggling through some of the corners (of course smoother driving would help too) but it will go where ever I point it that's for sure. Some nice sway bars would certainly balance things and hopefully allow for more constant throttle. With good tires and sways she might bust a 2:08 on em which is fast enough for me.
I have another vid of me following a nice GT3 which I'll put up soon.

GT3 vid is up titled: Porsche VIR F 5-06 996 GT3
Notice when he enters the esses he's mid track on the setup and he should of been far right next to the cones blocking the north course to set up for a late entry into the esses. I pointed this out to him so he'll probably kill me next time we're on the track together because that's about the only place I was gaining serious ground and he was actually slowing me down quite a bit through there. Again notice how those ******* pull down the straight though. The 1st lap he gives me a point and doesn't lift thinking I must have some serious power leaving me with a WTF look on my face. 2nd lap around he lifts but just a little lol

Fritz, why would the temp soar with additional boost. At 11 lbs you are probably not even in the efficiency range of the GT35. Doesn't Paul Winter run 17 lbs on his T78 w/o heat issues? If the silver car still has the ac condenser then I could see why but I imagine Gene F ducted/sealed everything pretty well.
Any if these go well at the Mazdadrivers event with my car I will try to make the Tracquest event in July

Basically with temps in the 80s or higher I'd have to chill down the straights as it is. Once my temps go over 200 I have a hard time controlling them without lifting.
With a GTC front bumper and duct work I'd be set at this boost level for any climate but right now I'm skating on the edge at 11 psi.
The Chin event should be a blast so try to make that one. Lots of track time on the full course with open passing

I wouldn't say you got waxed either, except for Oak Tree and the straight that follows. Notice how you stay with him on the front straight but not here -the torque disadvantage of the rotary is clearly evident here. This is what frustrated me when racing against 911s and Z06s on a local track here (we have a very similar 2nd gear turn leading onto a long straight).
BTW, 911 GT3RSRs are doing sub 2:00s at VIR, but are closer to $200K. Factory quoted engine replacments on these are at $96K. I kid you not.
Get a V-8 :P

100k for an engine is insane but those cars really are BAD ***.
If I ever drive a V8 it will be in a Vette

I'd go NA 3 rotor in a heart beat though.
1:24s at Summit and 2:10s at VIR are fast enough for me and you can do it fairly reliably in single turbo 13b.

BMW/Mercedes on the VIR Full Course 6-06
Started off with some NEW hoosiers for the 1st time and had a blast
They weren't heat cycled so I'll probably only get another weekend of use from them. The last set I had were heat cycled, slightly used and aged for a year or two and I got about 4 good days, 1 decent and finally a day of drifting from them.
Times weren't too fantastic because it was a bit warm but lots of 2:09s and 10s. On a good day this car has a 2:08 in it no problem
Bill Gammon was there in his FD and I have some footage of him laying down some nice rubber around t4. That video is up and it's titled BMW VIR F 6-06 Bill cleaning his tires...hehe. Bill was having lots of coupler issues and lucky for him I had an extra
http://fritz.sysadmin-racing.com/
BTW I left my helmet at the track so if by some remote chance anyone see's this post who is already there, going to or knows someone who they can contact at VIR PLEASE please look for my white Bell m4 helmet with SCCA sticker, BMW sticker and emergency tab on the back. The emergency tab of course has my E contact in it
Helmet was last seen around Matt Einsteins trailer. He drives a yellow GT3 that's slow as hell
A fellow enthusiast let me take his Lotus Exige out for some laps as payment for some brake work and let just say that was pretty fun. Sounds like an s2000 and drives like a spec miata. Could manage 120 down the straights w/ easy braking at the 3. IOW with seat time these cars could be pretty damn fast. I'm guessing 2:17 or 18s.
I had the usual issues and some new ones. Leaking oil cooler, leaking tire, and broken rear sway bar mount/link. Mount broke on the drivers side and caused the car to push a bit. Seriously slowed me down a couple of seconds a lap so rear sways are very important hehe.
Next on the schedule is Chin in couple of weeks. Hopefully the oiler cooler will be an easy fix.
I hope the Mazda guys and girls are staying cool and having fun this weekend
