They're beautiful, period appropriate, and the holy grail of 1st gen wheels, as far as I can tell. With the right summer rubber you'll also find new delight in the "Spry Beastie".

They are Period-Fab and completely reversible mod. Besides, knowing how you care for stuff, use 'em and if/when you want to give them up, I suspect you will get what you paid for them at least, so its really a win-win for you my friend.
Looking forward to seeing the Beasty with the new Shoes…

There is no real right or wrong, its what satisfies your taste. I imagine that the influences of southern California are different from the influences of other parts of the country, so your version of what is right may be slightly different than someone elses. I suspect that once you install them and maybe swap them back and forth a time or two, the right choice will become clear to you. Like Stu says, I'm sure you'll get most, if not all of your investment back if you decided to sell them later. It's at least nice to have the option to change it up once in awhile.
I agree with Banzai. I just completed a swap from NA back to turbo using the same carb with just minor air bleed swaps to better suit the conditions and it's so much nicer now. Even after testing the other big hogged out racing Nikki and feeling all the NA power it could provide, the smaller carb with the turbo wins. It's just so much more refined. Everything about it works better. And this is with using an RB long primary exhaust, so you can't get much better than that for an NA.
So far I've done NA, then turbo, back to NA for a couple weeks, now back to turbo. You gotta try things both ways and let the car tell you what it wants. Or rather let the car allow you to tell yourself which option you prefer. Not all of use have these opportunities so I say go for it both ways

Those are nice wheels and having wider stickier rubber is always a good feeling.
Its not that I don't want you to use them, just respect the waffles and let them get some time on the car from time to time. In 10 years you'll be the guy that still
has a set of waffles with RWL on your car at the shows.

Thanks, guys; I appreciate the input of everyone here. The same thoughts went through my head when I was deciding on whether or not to spend the money (and take the wife faction hit, which was non-trivial!) on these gems.
They cost very nearly what I originally paid for the entire car; I've never before spent anywhere near that much for a single upgrade, unless you count a complete engine build as an 'upgrade.'
(Granted, the car was paid for with 1989 dollars which were worth about twice what today's dollars are. But still.)

i would definitely run the epsilons considering the lack of 13' tires. like u said, they are period correct. we all know it'll look great but some pics once u get tires for them would be awesome dd!
DD - Put the epsilons on! And the gold is perfect. Anyways, its not like you're throwing the Waffles in the trash or anything... Epsilons are THE wheel of choice, IMO, for any SA/FB

No updates in my life, other than we've pulled the majority of the dents out from the rear end collision, insurance still hasn't stepped up to the plate, and my blown motor is next-in-line to be rebuilt.
Oh I did acquire some tail lights to refurbish, in exchange for some wiring work. Jhereg, Thanks bro!

I am jealous of all the guys in California etc that have access to an abundance of awesome old school parts. This stuff seems hard to find up in Canada.

i have heard that the percentage of Rx7's that were sold in California was in about 60%, so all the parts are here because all the cars were here.
Today my roommate and I carried a rebuilt 12A block into the basement on a donut spare tire/wheel as an impromptu engine stand. I removed intake, carb, WP, and dist before carrying it down. Heaver than it looks.

A little painting project
Got tired of looking at the rusty strut tower bar in my engine bay. I spent a couple hours sanding down the tower plates and bar and then used Duplicolor primer, chrome spray and "clear coat" to refresh the components. Word of advice, the supposedly "clear" coat isn't actually clear and in fact turned the brilliant chrome finish back to a silver one. I'm letting the pieces dry in my workshop with the help of a space heater and tomorrow I'm going to sand off the clear coat and reapply the rattle can chrome.
If all goes well, I'm hoping to "chrome" some other bits and pieces under the hood (alternator, pulleys,charcoal canister etc.) Not going for a blinged out engine bay, just something a little more aesthetically pleasing than rusty brown!

Yesterday, I did some test fitting of a roll bar and seats. With these seats, the door panels will not be going on. At least not the stock door panels.
Today, I removed the gunk that attached the weather seal on the door. Nice and clean now.
Tomorrow, j9fd3s comes over and we continue his...uh..."repairs".
