cured the off idle throttle tip in stutter that was making it almost embarrassing to drive in rush hour stop and go traffic. replaced new vacuum line with old original stuff that WONT COLLAPSE from heat and vacuum. now my dizzy advances like it is supposed to with both systems. YAY more power!

Painted my luvers, and washed the cars for 20 mins. Looked for turbo parts to put on said rx7 and make go fast power.

Went for a frisky half-hour drive last night "to charge the battery, honey". Car is so much more fun to drive freshly aligned, I'd forgotten what it was like not to have to nurse the steering. First reasonably cool evening in a while, had a blast.

Time to start cleaning her up for JCCS - it's only two weekends away. Will be my 6th year there. Hoping for a 3rd plaque to go with my other two, heh.

Put in an Optima red top. Best purchase yet for this car. Runs very strong now, even in low RPMs.

These are the photos after clear coating. I put on three coats and the last coat I managed to get a run which I didn't see until the next morning. But it looks good enough that I think I would probably just leave it even if it was going on my car.

These photos were after I tried using a polishing compound. It created swirl marks. I have since used a different polishing compound and removed the swirl marks.

I did this work out of order. The seam on the bottom has some rust which needs addressing. I should have done that first. Since I did the outside first now I need to take good care of it while working on the bottom.

You can't think of everything!

The Hoosiers fit great...no clearance problems in the front or back as far as the tires go. However, the 13" SSR MkIIIs didn't play well with the GSL-SE calipers. Had to grind. And grind. And grind some more. Both fronts and rears are running 1/4" spacers this time, but I'll be pulling out the spacer on the front and running a 1/8" spacer to bring the wheel in some. The rears took a 1/8" spacer and some grinding. It sticks out from the flares some but I don't mind at all. I'd rather have more meat on the ground than worry about a "hot wheels" look. I may switch the lower offset wheel on the front with the rear and see if I like that any better.

I'll be dropping the car by almost 2" and expect no rubbing issues.

Thanks! The retail price is about $800. I paid a good bit less after buying a few other parts. I was told it performed significantly better than a Racing Beat header.

Yup. They are nearly equal-length, amazing build quality, and absolutely one of the most gorgeous headers I've seen for an FB. I have the same one only without the H-pipe, collected to 3".

I'd put these on par with Defined Autoworks headers.

It's an 80s Verstatec vintage kit by BIS Smartparts. You can see it in the "How to modify your RX-7" book. It's designed to work with the stock body (no flairs), but I think it looks better with the flairs. It also came with a wing, but I like the factory 3-piece better, so that's what I'm using.

More progress pics. A previous repair is being redone the right way, with solid welds to the rear hatch area replacing the spot welds the PO's shop had done. The car was apparently in some kind of accident and this repair wasn't sufficient...the spot welds allowed the two body panels to flex enough that it cracked the mountains of bondo they caked on the rear hatch area. That crap is all gone and it's going to be pretty much all metal back there again. The car is just about ready for the base coat...hoping by the end of the week.

Thanks! The wing is pictured on the left. On the right you can see the air dam and side skirts.

I'm experimenting with my "refillable" in-lid charcoal canister, to see if I had perhaps over-packed the charcoal on first fill. Which requires frequent test-driving to check results. Which is more a feature than bug.

Time to start prepping for JCCS, too. Not a lot to do this time. Feels strange not to be in "OMG gotta get done" mode entering the fall car-show season.

Went to the junkyard to get the pedal assembly to convert my buddys S3 auto to stick, i found this cargo area cover, not sure if this is is for FB or FC but definitely fits the FB like a glove. For $12.99, i bought it and will bring to my buddys upholstery shop to get it redone. I just need to fabricare an L-bracket to attached the long panel rod to the seat belt mounts or something. Here are the pix.

solved my dead /dying battery issue. defective oscillator. was pulling 220mAh now back down to a paltry 10mAh for radio memory. disconnected it and chucked it. whatever it did, it was probably making the chime go off constantly, which only made a quick "ding" for a second when power was applied, then stopped. it was pulling current through the white/red wire and also through the "main" tap on the headlight fusible link bulkhead at the shock tower. no more current (****) hitting the rotary oscillator (fan) HAAA! is that where the phrase was coined??

Finally finished installing the RB upholstery kit to my seats. Love the fit
and the finish. They feel like new seats now. I also sit about 3/4 inch higher
in the seat and my hair hits the roof a bit.

Oh well I needed a hair cut anyway.

Working on the write up now. Thread started last night https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generati...y-kit-1071159/
