Some of the things that noticed in the SRT-4 I drove that fell short to the RX-8/FD. Steering feel, brake pedal feel and balance. All 3 cars are capable enough to have fun. The FD is the best hands down. The RX-8 is pretty good too, but something is missing (besides the 300 whp I'm used to) and I have not driven one enough to figure it out. The SRT-4 I drove definately made me grin and its probably more reliable and cheaper to modify and run than either of the Mazdas.

But maybe you should sell it and get a MazdaSpeed 3...keepin' it in the family.

If you could find me one at a price that would allow me to pay off the SRT and not be in debt over $10,000 for it we might have a deal ,lol. I still owe like $19500 on the SRT and have no cash in hand. I MIGHT be able to sell the SRT for $15,000 if I'm EXTREMELY lucky. So I would still have like $4,000 to pay off on the 4 if I sold it for the amazing high price of 15 thou. So if you could get me a mazdaspeed 3 for $6000...didn't think that was possible yet...but if I'm wrong.........lemme know lol

I love all this "internet racin"^^^^^^^

Yesterday I hung out with the hampton roads group, Calvin & Dan (JDM rx3) and about 15 more rotorheads.
We went langley speedway they were doing time trials and one on one racing (street cars) sadly there were no rotarys on the track, it was pretty cool the most impressive was an STI It could launch like a ****. No I didn't run "tiffany" her *** end is to pretty to be backed into a concrete wall. The tire wall at VIR is much softer.

I threw the car around a little more today...damn it's good to have an RX-7. I think I'm actually glad I got these tires instead of the Azenis, it has a lot more grip than my old tires when I need it, but I can still break it loose for some...how do you say...."stupid ****" when I want it too. It just doesn't spin accidentally now. I kinda miss squealing the tires shifting into second and third, but instead of hearing the "SCREEEECH" when shifting the car just throws me forward violently. I'd say it's an acceptable tradeoff.

I also installed a Koyo Radiator before the trip . I should havedone this long ago. The hottest it ever got was 90c as soon as the fan would come on it would drop to 88-86 This was in traffic and running the A/C. I would highly recommend it.

Yeah, I never ran at Langley. The SRTforums group went there a few times and dominated pretty well...but I'm afraid I'd bite it in the wall. As stated, my suspension is stock. Not the greatest. Did anyone eat the wall when you were there. I saw a 300z and a Z28 camaro eat it when I was there Sad thought.

So you want me to put $20,000 in the FD and see who wins? Actually, I wouldn't even need that much, that's the cool part. And I'll be finished paying on the FD next month, and she's all mine! And like I told you on the phone...I can't go back to FWD, and to me, even if it is fast, it will always be a Neon. It's not about performance, it's the stigma.

I will say this...I did recommend the SRT-4 to one of our new troops, for a couple reasons. It's pretty fast straight from the factory, and it's not a rotary. I wouldn't want to overload this kid as young as he is and with as little money as he has.

i would like to drive an srt and see what it can really do. i don't think it would take much to make it keep up with an rx8. remember the rx8 is more of a touring car, so it does not have the handling of the rx7.

david you up for letting me drive your baby? j/k

note: i am not an expert on either the srt or the rx8, only have the numbers i have found online. also i know these tests don't tell the WHOLE tale, but are a good base referecne. these are those numbers:

SRT
.85 skidpad
69.1 mph

srt w/mopar stage 3 coilovers, and sway bars(available from factory)
.91 skidpad
70.4 skid

rx8
0.90 g
70.6 mph

it makes sense why all the 8s were slowing me down at the gap now, LOL.

on the reverse of that a stage 1 srt4 and an rx8 have similar straightline performance numbers too.
So let me get this straight...you have to mod the SRT-4 to make it equal to the 8?

Also, what place are you talking about Dave, first? Lol. I actually would like to race, stock SRT to stock FD with a boost leak. I'm not talking about curvy roads cause my suspension is already modded so that wouldn't be fair, but I'd like to see where I stand with a 12 y.o. car, a boost leak and a stock engine/turbo system against a new SRT-4. Seems fair.

Let me drive the SRT-4 and it will beat the RX-8...unless I was driving it too. Then we'd have to think more about that.

I found some numbers too...

rx7 (3rd gen)
.97 g
68 mpg

Josh, I didn't mean to come off like the 8 is the sh*t, hell I know better...but the SRT-4 isn't even in the same class. The 8 is a touring sports coupe, that alone speaks for itself. The SRT-4 is in a class all of it's own with the powerhouse sport sub-compacts as the Nissan SE-R, Cobalt SS, andthe Mazdaspeed 3. Don't get me wrong they are all good cars but the companies that made them for a specific reason...put out the coolest, fastest, and most gas friendly cars for the people who really couldn't spend 30k on a vehicle. Now that's cool, but the 8 always gets bunched in with the S2000, 350Z, and SRT-4 as sports cars, when really only the 350 and S2000 should be in that group because as we all know true sports cars only have 2 seats...right Eric? LOL

Also, on the gap Gary's 8 (totally stock) measured a 1.6 on a G-Tech pro...I know those things aren't that accurate but the same G-Tech was in a couple of 2nd Gens and atleast one 3rd Gen that I know of. Their numbers were nowhere near as high.

Lol, I'm down for that. There's not really any way to go back to stock easily for me, but I'll turn my boost down to the stock 12lbs, use my Stage 1 injectors(the stock injectors were Stage ones), and pull out my fuel cut defender. I've actually always been curious about how a stock FD and stock SRT would fare. Looking at all the numbers they look pretty close, but paper and pavement are different stories now, aren't they? I wish you didn't have a boost leak.

...so wait... old, handicapped teenager in a wheelchair (great suspension, mind you)... VS. the kid with the rocket-powered go-kart?

Yeah I'm gonna see if I can get the leak fixed first. I'm supposed to be getting Josh's electronic boost gauge, so hopefully that will take care of it. If not oh well, I'm still getting about 7-8psi sometimes, and but sometimes I only get 5 so I guess we'll see, haha. I do want to do this though. We can do from a dig and a roll if you want, to see the differences. Paper and pavement sure are different things. After I get finished (probably in a couple years, haha) we'll run again and see how it goes, haha.

You must be crazy. I wouldn't say that is an accurate assessment. The SRT is not and old, handicapped teenager in a wheelchair.

PLEASE don't compare the SRT to an SE-R or a Cobalt EVER AGAIN!!! A cobalt is NOTHING!!!! Stock for stock, maybe...but it has no modification potential whatsoever(only a supercharger replacement and an engine rebuild can help that thing)...and the SE-R?!?! Please! A civic has got more ***** than that thing!!! lol...
