Here is the RRDI shirt info:
-the initial price quote I got was for a minimum order of 24 all cotton shirts, prices are $15 for small thru large and $17.50 for XL and up. At the time I didn't get a price for Long Sleeve shirts but will this time.
-Shirt color will be black with a 3 color logo front and back.
-I may be off in price a $1.00 or so but that's the ball park.

I will get an updated guote for the shirts and set up charges. If you can't make it to an RRDI then PM me with your size and number of shirts wanted and I'll send you a mailing address to send your check. I'll distribute them to everyone at the first drive-in after they are finished, hopefully late October or early November.

More information is on the RRDIs in September thread.

Hey on another subject for you guys with 4 piston calipers. I picked up a set of 4 piston calipers from Steve on Tuesday and started researching what pads I need and how to hook them up and discovered that the pad change seems like it will be much easier. The question is how do y'all spread the caliper and push the pistons in since they are on both sides of the caliper? The FSM indicates there is a special tool for this and I found a picture of it but was wondering what y'all use.
Hey Bert, I don't remember exactly how you do it since it's been over a year since I installed pads on my FC, but I didn't use any special tools whatsoever and had both sides done in like 10 minutes. I don't think I used anything besides my sockets, a small flathead screwdriver, and some disc brake-quiet spray.

Alternatively, the FB was a bitch when I realized I needed a C clamp to push the piston back in...and I didn't have one! Grrrr.

hey guys i just finished a paper for my english 1101 ENJOY!

The 1988 Mazda 10th anniversary RX7 was a crowning achievement for Mazda because it celebrated 10 years that a rotary powered car was on market. To some people this may seem just like a shameless ploy to sell more cars, that’s at the point when they realize that only 1500 of the legendary 10th anniversary models were made. That magical number of 1500 was back in 1988, Now less then 500 of those cars survive today which makes the 10th anniversary a very rare anddesirable model with a high asking price. The 10th anniversary model may just be a cosmetic upgrade, but to true enthusiasts it means a lot more to them, it means that they own a small piece of automotive history. Being an enthusiast I too have been taken captive by this unique model.

The few things that set the 10th anniversary model apart from other cars are the bronze tinted windows, the full monochromatic white paint job, white color matched wheels, special badges, and black leather interior. It may seem fairly trivial to make so much fuss about just a few color and interior options and hail this car as magnificent, it’s the prestige of driving a limited production car that culminates 10 years of rotary powered sports cars. The model is more a symbol of the engineering feats that the Mazda Company has achieved to make such a successful car rather then just an appearance option. No other car company has put so much behind their cars, Mazda launched a full brigade or brochures, flyers, advertisements and other related media to play on the emotions of the car buyer. These pamphlets evoked such emotions as joy, excitement, and pure exhilaration. “RX7 owners have an incurable lust for ever more performance in their vehicle of preference” this excerpt was taken directly from one of the many sales brochures offered by Mazda. It shows just a fraction of the raging emotions that this car can pull from an enthusiast.

To explain the infatuation I feel for this specific model may seem a bit strange, but the moment I saw my first RX7 I immediately fell in love with these cars. They were different, sporty, and they seemed to have the definition of cool inside its doors. Its hard to explain the feeling I get when I see one; it’s like when you were a child and see Santa for the first time, or getting to play in the sand box and make a mess it’s a wonderful infatuation. The car is a technological marvel even by today’s standards. The feel of the car has an edgy almost timeless styling to it that even when compared with today’s outrageous cars still seems modern and still very attractive. Yet the RX7 is not just a run of the mill want to be sporty looking car like every other car. It doesn’t have large flashy wings or gigantic shiny wheels to catch your eye; it instead lures you in with its timeless design and superb handling. Its not one of those cars that looks like it could go fast, or one that could promise great handling and not deliver. The RX7 is a car that gives you everything and takes back nothing except your breath. My first RX7 was just a normal run of the mill base model no power options and manual everything, but when I sat inside the car I could say to myself, “this is a real sports car, I own a genuine sports car, and not just an imitation trying to be something its not.”

The RX7 has a very cult like following mostly attributed to its engine. Where as 99% of all cars on the road use piston engines the RX model lineup has only used the revolutionary rotary engine. Now you may ask, if this “rotary” engine is special and advanced why don’t all cars have them today? Well good deals of debating and testing have been done to see why this is; the main downfall is because of the rotary’s lack of an efficient combustion chamber and sometime lackluster reliability. The RX car can probably be most likened to the Volkswagen beetle, it was a mass produced car hailed for its simplicity and reliability. Naturally everyone had one; yet now after 21 million of the Beetle being produced, people are reluctant to see one today. So the people that stay with them are the dedicated die-hard enthusiasts. This is almost exactly the case for the RX enthusiast; because the cars different engine people have thought this car to be impossible to fix and hard to work on, yet the enthusiast have stayed with the car to make them perform above and beyond peoples expectations and really surprise them.

The case for my RX7 infatuation is a combination of a few things, the feel of being in a cult, the attachment to an almost forgotten creed of rotary engine rebuilding. Having a skill that almost no one else posses, and to be included in such a small group of people that are semi-insane and a half part genius.

thanks Joey, that is good to hear, I like the fact that you can change pads without having to loosen any bolts, slide the old ones out after removing the pins and slide the new ones in. I was just wondering about resetting the pistons so that you'd have the necessary clearance for the new thicker pads that just slide in. I was playing around with one of the new calipers last night and found all the retainer wires that keep the pins from falling out and I guess keep the proper tension on the pads? I'll have to breakout the FSM and Haynes manual and read up on these calipers.

The single piston calipers seem easy to me, but you're correct about having to have a 6-8" C clamp to reset the piston and you've got to take out the bottom retaining bolt to rotate the caliper so that you can get to the pads.

What is this I hear about selling your FC so that you can buy a MIATA? That was a joke, right? I saw a new Mazdaspeed MX5 up at Petsmart in WF yesterday and that almost looked masculine, I said almost.

That sounds like the guy I talked to. Next time you see him you might want to ask him what color your TII is. He did have it right about how clean and nice that car is and he did have all the other information correct on your car.

Yeah, I dropped in at Petsmart yesterday afternoon to pick up some dogfood and some treats for my dogs. I looked for your car in the parking lot but didn't see it or I'd stopped in at Staples too. Didn't you post about someone backing into you a week or so ago? Maybe that's why you weren't driving the 7.

An automotive journalist is born! I think you captured the essence of a Rotorhead. By chance does your English instructor own a rotary?

After reading this and learning of your deep devotion and commitment to the rotary engine I now understand that the Northstar conversion rumors were just a joke, :0) HA, HA!

Oh, I'm driving her, I just park over in the side of the building, where all the employees park now. Lol, I'm not taking many chances. Today I'm going up to Capital Collision or w/e to get an estimate. I'm off Monday too, so hopefully I can take her in and get her worked on.

I'm so happy. Took her up to Capital Collision today and a guy named Randy looked at it and said Rick would be able to fix her and they would make it look like new. I can't wait, I'm taking it up there Monday in the morning and it will hopefully be done by Thursday at the latest. Awesome. My baby will be immaculate again...

BTW, I made the first step today towards getting that exhaust, I'm going to start saving money up now and put certain percentage towards the exhaust. I might just buy it on credit once I can put about 70% down, and just pay off the rest. Oooh I can't wait.

Yup, 'tis true. The FC is for sale and I'm looking to buy a Miata. The end times are near!

Actually I was just thinking I didn't need two cars that were so similar (I never drive the FC in favor of the FB these days) so I should get something else. The something else needed to be about as fun to drive as an RX-7 (if it weren't, I wouldn't drive it either), good on gas, and most importantly RWD. The list of cars that meet those criteria are few, and it just so happens the Miata tops the list. And since my budget only allows for first gen Miatas, I will NEVER hear the end of the chick car jokes

Well you have asked for it so don't complain. I gotta clue you in from examples set by Steve (4 FCs), Johnny ( 4 or 5 FCs), Greg (2 FCs), Jesse also has a couple FC RX7s, there is no restriction placed on the number of FCs one person can own, unlike wives, you can have only one of them at a time. Polygamy is allowed in the rotary world. Owning a miata is like having a perverse relationship on the side, and in the closet, its not something you should mention when you're sober and something you do not want others to know about.

That is good news, tell them to do you a real good job and you might be able to switng some business their way from the rotary club. Sounds like they appreciate a beautiful car.

They do, or at least Rick will. He's been a close friend of mine for as long as I can remember and takes pride in his work. He'll do it right the first time.

Hey I had an FB also, miss it sometimes. You can never own too many sevens! Hell, if my kid would quit college I could get another NA FC!

Just got back from the dyno!! Im pretty happy with the results even though my AFR's were a little lean. So my car has 124k on the ORIGINAL motor. It has 2.5in downpipe, 2.5in test pipe, 3in cat-back, custom isuzu npr front mount, Racing beat FCD, and about 10lbs of boost. I put down 216.4 hp and 198.6 tq. Im really happy with that on this motor. Soon to come is chip injecters and turbo upgrade. Then we will see what this original motor can do.

Those are good strong numbers on a motor with that many miles. That's not quite 2 hp per thousand miles. Does that mean the more miles the more HP?

I can't believe you wrote such a nice paper on A.E.'s and then you go and put a northstar engine in.
Jessie
Pretty good # but I think you better plan on a rebuild soon.

Bert,
I'm not going to make the meet tomorrow, I have a lot to do. also I have some more to do to Tiffany before I come down. (My friend Josh taught me to come to the meet a little late but with everything right to make a Grand Entrance)!

Sorry to hear you won't be down. I was really hoping to see how Tiffany turned out and I know some others are eager to call you out for a display of her power and to see if an S5 rear iron is stronger than an S4. It'll also be Steve's last Drive-In before he starts tech school. All we have of Tiffany are a few sweet memories and a couple of pictures:

You're just gonna have to watch Barry when he gets around her, Barry around an FC is like Josh around little girls, you're not sure what he's thinking but you know it ain't good!

Speaking of Josh, anyone heard from him lately? Has he gone and bought a meeata and is so ashamed of himself that he has withdrawn from the rotary world and his haning with some questionable types these days?

For y'all that don't get around in the forum much just wanted to let you know that we are planning on a Rotaries at the NC Zoo the first weekend in October, either Sunday or Saturday. So far there is interest from the triad area, the Charlotte area and Jason said he is in for the trip. Check out that thread and add your comments if you want to join the asphalt ripping party. We might even see some strange and unusual animals once we arrive at the NC Zoological Park and then we'll go inside to see what's happening with the lions and tigers and bears, OH MY!

Hey Dan check out Tiffany, the sexy 7 in the post above if you want to see a gorgeous FC. Johny drives her down from Danville occasionally to lets us gaze upon a work of art.

Johnny, thanks for the compliments. and who knows i could own another 10th AE one that would stay rotary powered, but in much nicer condition then the one i have currently.

I was at the dyno with Jesse, and I ran my GSL-SE. Although not as impressive as Jesse's, my little FB put down 125 horses. I was running really lean though.

I'm quite happy with that number though, I was expecting about 100 and hoping for 115.

Yeah Joey, your FB did well. Really need to adress the fuel issue on yours. I definately think a fuel filter, and cleaning your injectors would help you.
