The article says that if the engine doesn't pass a vacuum test, that the engine must be replaced. Could that explain my loss of power recently??? I guess we'll see when the recall comes out!

I just read the mile long thread at the rx8 club site. I haven't had any problems except for a CEL.... hahaha... anyway I plan on calling my service department in the next day or so to see if i can get scheduled without waiting for the stupid letter. At the least we should get a new ecu flash, and possibly the new starter/battery (i say possibly loosley.. they better give it to me or there will be some consequences and reprocussions (sp?)). The techs should have gotten trained on the vaccum test tool last week. Thanks for the info Jonny.. It might have been weeks before i ran up on that on the rx8 club site .

I think there is a solenoid that activates the "extra" ports that is one of the power tricks/emissions the Renesis uses. I would investigate that. They are known to fail on 4 port FCs. The Renesis is a 6 port.

So a rotary is a rotary. If vacuum leaks qualify us for a new engine where do I get in line? So RX-8 owners have more in common than they'd care to admit, very interesting!

Check out this FD for sale in Cali, under 5k miles. If it was a 10 A.E. Johny would be wetting himself right now, haha.

^I don't have an email address for him other than that one, but I'll PM him. If that falls through, we can always rent one and split the cost. I don't remember what the cost is off the top of my head, but with the three of us renting it, it won't cost near as much. Either way I'm gonna need it soon cause my wheels should be here tomorrow, and the tires in a couple weeks or so after I buy them.

Don't hate because we're special (and not ED either...) hahaha. My luck, they will send me on my way with the same engine I have now just like every other recall Mazda has done. I haven't yet been 'qualified' for any recall fixes (ok technically there has only bee one other official recall...). I guess thats a good thing right!? hahaha

Bobby, you need to start going to a different dealership...I have never been turned away for any TSB or recall with Brown & Wood in Greenville. I'll just wait for the recall and see what happens.

Well here is my sad story... once upon a time there was a service shop run by al smith mazda. Life was good and the 8 got all the TSBs. Then one day this evil menace named southern states decided to take over the world and my mazda dealership with it... then came the forced appointments and long winded stories to get the TSBs. So far I have gotten all the TSBs I've needed except for the starter and battery. The first recall, my car was fine and needed no work other than the ecu reflash. I hear the dealer in cary is the best in the area.. im just too lazy to drive all the way to cary to get my car worked on HA!

FB, better road race car or not, is not the challenge. The challenge has been laid down between the RX-8(Nic) and the SRT(mine). This woulda been an unoficial prelim bout before my suspension upgrades.

Argh, I just logged on to pay my car insurance, and it DOUBLED. Dammit.

David: I could lay down the guantlet and challenge my FB against yours...

...but to be honest, I'm not really very competitive. FB's shouldn't fight each other, they should best other "superior" cars.

I have no doubt your FB would spank mine...if I was driving especially, lol. I have work to do on the FB. Great car so far and I'm lovin' it, but it's still got work and isn't ready for the track. VIR parade laps taught me that, lol. She felt too "rollie"(spelling). Felt almost like the front left tire wanted to fold under too...I dunno, she just didn't feel as solid as she should. New tires(maybe rims) and suspension should fix most of the problem.

Yeah, ancient suspension will do that to you. If you like, you can take my car for a spin around the Food Lion parking lot to feel what an FB with a new suspension is like by comparison. I went WAY too long before replacing mine, given the relative cheapness of the FB parts.

I would LOVE to! Can you talk with me sometime to help me setup my suspension when that time comes around? Hopefully soon!

(PS I will be hiding the glass sunroof)

Sure. My suspension isn't super great-it would be slightly better than the car had stock when it was brand new. But damn, does 22 years take a lot out of a car. I'd be happy to share my experiences and research I've found with you, there really aren't a lot of suspension options on the car so that makes picking it out pretty easy.

That whole "internet-racing" debacle with David, I forgot you had a Mazda 3

Johny and Josh, I talked to Phil. He said he hasn't even taken it out of the box yet and has to look through his house to see where he put it, haha. He said he wants to use it first to check it out. I'm not sure how long that'll take but I'm gonna need one before too long so I'm gonna check on rental prices and get back with you guys. I didn't know it was new, I thought it was something he'd had for a while.

Eric, There is a guy on E-bay that rents one Its $60.00 but its only for 3 days rental, and you have give him 300.00 deposit, Im not cool with that. I think a new one is around 280.00. We could all go in and buy it for that matter. Im in whatever you guys want top do.

^Yeah most of the places I've checked is like $300 deposit, and I wasn't cool with it either. I might be down for buying one, but who keeps it then? Haha. My suggestion would be for someone like yourself, Bert, Greg, or Doug and Beth...someone that's going to stay with the club and probably won't be moving like myself or Nic...to keep it so club members can use it.

As it's gotten closer to crunch time for me, I've even thought about just using a bat like one of my old bosses did on his Mustang, and granted it turned out pretty well, but I know myself and I'll probably mess it up, haha. So at this point I'm still planning on using the roller. If I absolutely have to use a bat, then I will, but until then I'm sticking with the roller.

we could always buy one ourselves, and sell it on the ebay. might come out to about 30-40 bucks a piece after reselling it.

actually 250 would only be about 90 a piece, either way.
