Good article Barry, needs some editing and spelling checks, not with spell checker. Good information and you have the basis for an online DYI manual but more straight forward than the FSM or Hanyes' Manual. I have found that after writing an article you should set it aside for a day or so and when you come back to it and reread it you'll find the mistakes you overlooked during and immediately after the writing.

Christina, you get all torqued for corroded battery terminals! Get yourself a couple of the gold plated battery connectors at Advance and you'll not have the corrosion problem again. Gold will not oxidize and its an excellent conductor of electricity. Now take your FC out for dinner and a movie and apologize to her for the things you said and thought of her this week. The problem you just encountered is common to all cars and would happen no matter which car you own.

that was the rough draft, so yes there will be some spelling and grammatical things but it also had a 3 page limit so i could not go into very fine detail like i would have wanted and you good ol' rotorheads would have liked also.

D'oh! I should have thought of that. I had a similar issue with my FC, starter died one day. I ordered another starter, but my friend insisted on crawling underneath and poking it. Turns out the negative cable (the main ground for the whole electrical system...) is supposed to ground to the engine by having a bolt put through it. Well, it wasn't in the bolt. It touched it, but the bolt wasn't actually THROUGH it. Five minutes later, the car cranked and all my random electrical problems went away.

Agreed. It is common with any car. So appologize, cause you know you love her, lol...on another hand, 240's are actually very reliable...but I wouldn't drift OR do a motor swap on one and expect it to STILL be reliable. Any time you start tinkering with the stock setup to add power you're compromizing reliability. I had an 89 240sx until late 2003...NEVER had a problem with it aside from a window motor going bad. Totally stock...NO problems...till my dumb@$$ wrecked it But really, they're great cars and easy to work on imo. Even AFTER the wreck it STILL ran like a champ!!! but body work was like $5000 and it wasn't street legal with the damage...so we parted ways I still wonder, to this day, what might have been.

While having a little fun in the car, aka Power Sliding, I think I loosened part of my exhaust apart.... I think it is in between my cat and muffler piping.... I'm gonna have to check tomorrow....

I'd avoided paying $3+ a gallon for gas after hurricane Katirna and thought I'd dodged that bullet. I had run my tank almost dry until today I had to fill up and it was $3.05 a gallon in Wake Forest. It cost me over $47 to fill up my FC tank on 87 octane this afternoon. That is almost a car repair bill! Oh well, it still the cheapest fun I can have. That turned out to be 15.24 gallons for 258 miles, 16.8 mpg driving to work and in town traffic.

Yeah... I might bite the bullet and just drive a stock 4-banger. It won't be so bad, since it IS a 240! Just depends on which bodystyle I get. I REFUSE to ever get another car that needs a paint job! Not one right away, anyway! I learned my lesson QUICK for my FC.

Can't wait to get her painted all one color... and all prettyfied.

inspection

I just tried to get my 86 inspected and it passed everything but the idle RPM.
My tach is reading 800-900 rpm but their computer read 1700.
I guess I shouldn't have tried Jiffy Lube
I'm guessing their computer is doubling the rpm for some reason?

They probably have it connected wrong. When I got my GSL-SE dynoed the other week, the dyno computer was off on RPMS too on the first run, it said my car went up to 15000 RPMS. The guy made an adjustement on the connector and it was fine. I don't know what that adjustement was though.

....what are you doing to my car?

Sliding is fun, just be careful since your rear tires have a lot more grip than your front tires right now.

inspection

So, I went to the State inspection place on 401.
Their computer was reading 1400 RPM idle, but then they switched a different sensor and placed it on the DC and it read 794.
Replaced a wiper blade and everything was good.
The younger man there said next year I don't have to get the emissions test; that'll be nice (save $20).

Yeah, I had to fill up today and it was $38.61 for 12.873 gallons. This fillup I calculated 18.6 mpg.
You're right, it's still worth the fun of driving.

you guys should stop complaining about buying gas, try driving a cadillac that takes 93 octcane, and has 4.6L and is ummm really really fast. and has a 20 gallon tank. baby jesus crys everytime i fill up

Yeah they're EFFING STUPID!. That was the same problem with me, so they gave up and used an eclipse to pass me. Have them set it on a 6-cylinder engine. That's what they're supposed to use. Ugh. These clowns at JL are REALLY starting to **** me off. I'll NEVER go to one again, after the thread Greg started a few days ago.

my car makes 19 in city and 26 on the highway. I dunno what y'all are complaining about. I STILL have to fill up every week.

Oh yeah... and she has 107 HP... slow POS. LOL

tcorny- i dont know how your car feels but i will tell you that if the rear feels kinda sloppy or odd then you should definately get the racing beat rear steer eliminators. They were the best money i have ever spent on suspension. They make a world of difference in handling.

Slide as in it really slides or feels like the car is shifting? Or... These guys have hit the main points for suspension for the most part, and I think Steve was maybe indicating tires. I know my T2 hates wetness of any kind, the 'vert doesn't seem to give a hoot what the road conditions are. Of course my tires on the T2 are all but shot in the rear (can't imagine why?) and the front ones ain't that great. Even a sprinkle and the rear end is loose, and if it really rains the front end just doesn't track for anything. One of the things on my great big list of things to do for that car is tires and a digital align along with suspension replacements and/or upgrades.
