It's my understanding that 90-100 is still a decently functioning range for a motor, although not ideal. 120psi is new from the factory. That's very good though for an FD with 130k miles on it.

Ok Here some information I looked up on the compression test for the rotary engine and you were right. It is going to need a rebuild soon.

-------------------------
Off of http://www.motorpride.com/Articles/V...SiteID=1&ID=85

If you're using a piston compression tester, you can remove the bypass valve or just hold the pin in. We will need to see three pulses for all three rotor faces for each rotor, so the check valve needs to be bypassed. Mazda has set minimum compression pressure to be at 70psi, but with the FD3S, the number has been lowered to 60psi. Good compression are readings anything above 100psi. Compression testing under 80psi is a sign of an engine requiring a rebuild soon.

-------------------------

So there you have it. Looks like when she goes threw a 5 Speed swap in about a year or so the engine will get its rebuild with all the usual modifications. But for a Pure Original stock RX-7 I think it is in good mechanical shape not excellent but good.

Well I ned to get some rest starting my first day of Collage tomorrow. Going to be an IT Networking Security Manager.

TTYL,

Dan

Update;

Hope all you guys and gals are OK. My mother came home from the hospital today!
In between hospital runs I installed my wideband o2 and my water injection and my air temp guage. Ive got so many things to look at in the cockpit its hard to drive. I installed LED's so I know when the water pump is on or if the nozzle gets clogged. I also have a switch so I can monitor air temp on both sides of the intercooler. Its pretty cool to see the water pump come on and the temps start DROPPING as I boost.

We were headed out for a ride on Sat evening when I noticed a lot of cars at a auto parts store right up the road. It was a lot of teenagers so we stopped by for a visit. I kept getting asked if I was twin turbo. Then a kid in a WRX asked me to run a talon because he didn't want to, I declined. But I gave them a little speed shift to 2nd at 18PSI leaving about 25 ft marks. ( I think I might be a ricer because I had fun and because I love all the lights on my XD 1 o2 sensor).
I will be traveling to Wilimington Deleware in Nov. for tuning by Steve Kan. If any one else would like to go give me a shout the motel room is on me.

Hope to see you soon

Johny

Johny, glad to hear your mother is doing better. Sounds like the car is getting pretty crazy. When you gonna bring it down to one of the meets. Let me know in advance when your going to come so i can try to make it. Is the new motor pulling harder then the old one?

Mine seems to be running really well. I pretty much have all the bugs worked out for once Only have about 400 miles on her though. I had a little race the other day with some of the local law enforcement, she seamed to pull pretty hard under moderate throttle.

I really wish i could make it up to Delaware with you. I would love to meet and see Steve Kan work his magic, but i just can't make it with my new work and school schedule. Good luck with it...

Great news on your mom, with her interest in rotaries I know the progress you've made and the intercooler spray thingy working had to contribute to her recovery.

When you said y'all took Tiffany out for some air and you stopped at the auto parts store you confirmed the ugly rumor started by the MSCCofNC crowd, we do have a ricer among us! Can't wait to see Tiff again and with all her improvements you've just gotten everyone thinking about another round of mods for their cars. Sounds like you need a driver now just so you can sit in the other seat and properly monitor all the systems. I think in most modern commercial aircraft the safety regs require a pilot, copilot, navigator, and systems engineer, so you might have to upgrade Tiffany to a 2+2 configuration just to properly crew the car.

Hope all continues to go well for your Mom and we'll continue to pray for her health and God's will for everyone as you go through this with her. We all look forward to seeing you when you can make it down to a drive-in. I'll put you down for a T-shirt, my treat, just let me know what size.

Brits and Battleship Car Show

I was ordering some dash ***** and found an annoucement on the Victoria British website about a British sports car show in Wilmington next month. Its called the Brits and Battleship Car Show and it'll be held on Saturday, November 5. That's just a two hour drive down I-40 from Raleigh and a lot closer for the guys in eastern NC. Anyone interested in getting a group together and driving down to the coast for the day?

I MISS MY CAR!!!

I just paid the insurance on it, and now I have to make a payment this week, only two more weeks to go. I can't wait. I met a guy with a 88 black one the other day, he's selling it for $2900, he may have already sold it. Really nice condition like mine, leather inside and all the options. It hasn't been rebuilt though, so I don't know. Seems like he's taken care of it though, it has racing beat mufflers too. It's black with red pinstripes and no turbo II badges.

I have an air-fuel ratio gauge now. About how hard are those to install?

BTW, I recently bought some games and worked quite a bit, so I've been trying to occupy myself and push the fact that I'm driving a hunk of junk out of my mind for now. That's why I haven't been posting. Hope everyone is doing alright.

I broke my car again.....

Try to imagine the complications that would come from busting an oil cooler line on the Dragon at 1:30am on a Saturday night.

Jason, it seems like your always up there! Thats some bad news about your oil cooler lines. Its pretty scarry to think about all that oil leaked out on the road, especailly with all the bikes up there.

Im going to try to bring it to the club meeting next time. Really awesome condition. Im just trying to do all the tune up stuff right now, since its an original engine thats got me a little worried about how much life it's got left. I've heard anywhere from 100k to as far as 180k. So far it just seems to be running a little hot (never more than 3/8ths of the guage)and for some reason a slightly low oil pressure (~22 psi @ idle), but no leaks . Idles pretty well and pulls very smoothly. I'm kinda afraid to get on it until i find out whats up with the temp and oil. But other than that, disgustingly stock!

The guy gave me a bunch of stuff with the car. The sales brochure (sp), original receipt. window sticker, owners manual, most of the service history. I'm still waiting for someone to pinch me so I'll wake up.

Johny, haven't heard anything from Bryan yet but if he reads his pm's he knows we'll be happy to have him whenever he can make it to Raleigh.

Dan, how soon before the tranny is back in gear? That's too nice of a car to be sitting around a garage, it needs to be on the road burning its share of expensive gasoline. Do you ever go sit in it and make rotary rev noises? I've heard that helps ease the pain of separation.

Jason, sorry to hear about loosing the oil cooler line. I know pushing that car all the home to Maryville must/ve really been . . . No wait, you're a Marine, no trouble at all getting it home from the TOTD after midnight, right? Just a little night maneuver in some inhospitable terrain with a heavier than normal equipment load. What's it gonna take getting it running again? How does a non-turbo Turbo run?

The oil problem is more then likely your sending unit. They are always bad. You can go buy a new one at the dealership for like $80 or you can not worry about it. I have always done the later. Low oil pressure is not very common from what i have seen.

As for the coolant. Try flusing your coolant and see what that does. After that i would look at replacing your thermostat with a genuine mazda thermostat. For some reason the ones you get from mazda are much better then the ones you get at any parts store (usually Stant). Lots of people have fixed there running hot problems just by replacing there almost new thermo with a new one from the dealership.

Hope that helps...

...So should I stow away a shirt for my boyfriend in my bins in the FC? This was cute.

David and I saw a white S5 vert... but I dunno if it was Paul (the guy from Wake Tech.) The guy was too far ahead of us getting onto an exit, so I couldn't hand him a card through the window of David's SRT-4 like I wanted to. We were in a hurry to get home so I could drive my FC.

...Oh... and David is NOW a Rotorhead! I think I'll keep him.

We also saw a red S4 Vert around 10PM last night when we were taking the FC to Sheetz on Capital. So at the light, he jumped out and handed her an RRDI card (With the RX7club.com info on the back). He says she was an older lady, so I KNOW it wasn't Greg.

Perky Girl, sorry didn't mean to leave the female contingent out, yes you could but since David is getting a shirt all his own why would you need to?

I'll keep an eye open for a red vert on Capital.

Hey Taylor, we're getting an RRDI T-shirt order together and don't want to leave you out incase you're interested post up or send me a PM. I'll be meeting with the printer tomorrow, Friday, to submit our order. Send me your size and you can PayPal the payment, $15 for short sleeve and $17 for long sleeve.

Ah, only two more weeks to go now. Time is slowly starting to pick up. I've been grabbing all the hours I can have. I can't wait. To hear that magical whirr when I crank her up, it's like music to my ears compared to the jumpy, puff-puff-ka-bang starts of the truck.

I need to remember to get the windows fixed too, time to start riding my dad about that.

I miss my car....
