Old guys with 12As club meeting
Holy Toledo Collin, I was just out washing and waxing the car getting ready for the big meet tonight and I was thinking about you.
I was figuring that ever since you bought that Ford Tank you had turned sour on rotaries.
The July meeting is on Tuesday July 5, hope you can make it!

See ya'll this evening, I'm bringing my Mazda Approved dash light detection device.

So I wake up to go to work this morning and find out my break lights are not working.
I'm not sure what happened, i took the tail lights off my other car and hooked them up to see if it's just the bulbs that went out but they also did not work. I also checked the fuse and it did not look blown to me.
I was planing on coming to the meet tonight but it might be kind of risky with out break lights, unless someone thinks they can fix my problem

I got a new car, but I'm not gonna tell you all what it is. I feel that we should play a guessing game!
Here are the hints...
- It's a car that has been in production for a very long time, and is the 'standard' in fun, economical, small cars.
- Reverse is not where you'd expect it to be.
- The gauges are backlit blue
- They've got good reputations for being reliable little cars, and have a MASSIVE international following.
Discuss.

That's what I was going to say, VW beetle, early '70's vintage:

Alex I haven't met an FB taillight I couldn't fix yet, bring it on over!

I saw a nice blue bug the other day and have been thinking that I should trade the BMW for one... After driving it for a few days and then driving the FC, it feels like an old grandpa car. I'm sure a bug would feel the same, though.
All I can say for Collin's new car is that it's a step up from that huge Ford but still not as nice as the FC

So it's a 2002 Golf 2.0 5-speed. White on black. 166k. Virtually NO RUST, not even underneath. I mean some things are a tad rusty, but there's absolutely nothing scary or that makes me worry. It runs and drives fantastically and doesn't feel like there's 166k on it. I haven't carfax'd it yet, but I really doubt it's a Vermont car.. The amount of rust I've seen is only like one or two Winter's worth, and I found a good bit of sand embedded in the carpet... beach sand. Also, in Vermont it's pretty rare that someone would tint their windows THAT dark... Sounds a lot like this car is possibly from Florida, which would be great news. Does anyone have a corporate carfax account they would run the report for me?
I traded my CVPI straight across for this car.. I'm actually seriously impressed at the way it runs and drives, so hopefully she will treat me well! I'm not sure if I'll be driving it to Georgia when I come down in July, however, because the car DOES need a new wiper switch, and I've gotta get it registered, need to fix the door handle, etc.
All in all, it's a way better car for me than the CVPI was, it's in far better condition, and it makes me happier, and it looks better too. The headlights are freakin' sick... They've got city lights, separate high and low beams, and the integrated turn signal, in an uber reflective housing that is crystal clear. I may ditch the OEM housings though, and go projector and proper HID upgrade. No real reason too, because the headlights are so freakin' bright it's scary.
I'll stop my percocet rambling... I'm just really excited... I cleaned the car up really well, and changed the oil tonight in my garage.. I'm happy to report that the engine/transmission doesn't leak a damn drop of anything, there's no wetness around any of the engine, and the axles are in fine shape as well as all of the steering and suspension components.
Yup..
Nifty. Not an FC... but nifty..

Perocet Rambling, never heard that one before. Collin apparently you are so excited that all your pictures except the headlight aren't showing up, so so far your new VW is not very impressive. As you might say Collin, Major Fail. Can you fix?
In the mean time, here's the 06-07-11 OGTA Report:
Well this was the weirdest OGTA meeting yet. First of all, Crit wasn't there, which was totally weird. And then an FC showed up with a 12 A in it, that used to have a 13B that got transplanted to a Datsun, which also showed up. And that car was totally weird, see photos below.
Anyway, needless to say, there was a lot of controversy about the 12A count, but here's what I got, which is most likely truthful, but incorrect (see Kristy and Holly's subsequent post).
1 RX-2 (Jeremy) = 2 12A's
1 SA (Andrew) = 1.5 12A's
1 12A FC (John) = 2 12A's (I mean, what better way to improve an FC?)
1 13B Datsun (David) = 2 12A's (I mean, how weird can you get?)
5 FB's (Mike, Carlton, Dean, Greg the Younger, Ray) = 5 12A's
1 PrePro (Kristy) = 1 12A (A well deserved upgrade from the earlier rating of 0.75)
1 FC (New Guy Mike from Monroe) = 0.5 12A's
1 FD = 1 12A (Can't remember his name, but that car is totally cool)
3 FE's (Holly, Tommy, Billy) = less than 1 12A (Holly I'll let you figure this one out but I'm estimating 1)
No Pistons = No 12A's (nice work OGTA's!)
Total 12A Equivalent Turn Out = 16 12A's. The hard way.
Here's the photos:
Jeremy's magnificent RX-2:

John's 12A FC (Notice the FD wheels. He's got the best of all three generations going on in one car; yes that's a 600 Holley)

I just realized my car has side impact airbags built into the seats. Neato. Then again, this generation of Golf and Jetta were marketed as being really safe cars... soo...
Collin, I clicked on all of the links (thanks for the heads up) but I couldn't find a picture that shows the whole car. Can you take it out in the driveway and back off a few feet? Also, what are those roof racks for?
Looking forward to seeing you in July, hope you find the FC by then. Lately folks have been putting 12A's in those FC's, you might want to check that out.
In the mean time, nice car, I love the color. What are those roof racks for?

Can you imagine what might have happened if the German's had stuck with the Rotary?

Is hanging stuff from the rear bumper a Georgia thang?
That Datsun has my favorite rotary speacial tool hanging from the mirror.
Collin- I have a very clean and straight 91 s5 FC with a 13B FI set-up and a RB upper manifold for a sidedraft. I'll make you a good deal. Painted FD CYM a couple years ago before the last zoomfest at RA.
Did the side airbags go off from the drivers side damage? Looks like something scraped the rear and bottom side. Those are clean looking cars. You'll be camo in the winter up there.

I just wanted to say that it was nice meeting everyone last night. Its always great to put faces to names/cars. Everyone was very friendly and definitely knowledgeable about these cars. I had fun and plan to make time to attend regularly. Thanks!
