Is it tough to rebuild a transmission? I've decided to get Kevin's '85, but according to him it makes noise in every gear but 4th, and according to Mazdatrix, that means a blown bearing, which means I need a tranny rebuild. He's giving me another tranny that might be in better shape, but just in case, is it hard to rebuild?

The other tranny is good, Swapping them CAN be a 1 person job, but like I said, Turn up the music and forget about it! LOL the tranny is in perfect shape otherwise, it shifts smooth and theres no play in the shifter

building a tranny isn't too complicated. altho i've never rebuilt one, i have had them apart. the only problem would be the need for a press for removing and installing the bearings.

Gearbox swap is definitely apartment complex easy. Get tall jackstands to give yourself plenty of room, and go to it. two hours max.

Crit's right, if I can solo swap a tranny on a gravel driveway, you can do it in the apartment parking lot. But do yourself a favor Quad and drive it the way it is for awhile, Ace says the tranny works fine, just some noise that you might get used to and find is not worth bothering with (most old cars have nonfatal clunks, clanks and whines, that's part of their character). You can always put the other tranny in later on, after you've gotten to know the car.

Nice find, good to keep it in the family! Ace really fixed that Red car up nice (and it's got a holley).

Yep....Google browser. I really like it. I used firefox till it updated a while back and would never run again on the work computer. Switch over to Chrome.

what is it with the two Collin/Colins and trying to get us to fish information out of them? Colin is trying to get us to ask him what operating system he uses, and Collin is trying to get us to ask what he's been up to.

Guys, if you want to share something, just say it (Collin, if it's disturbing, find a way to say it without putting mental images in our heads)

ok, we're painting the FB sometime soon...... I don't care if it doesn't look great, it's got to be better than my 26 year old paint. (but from the looks of the bumper, you do a good job) Congrats Collin on the killer setup, and nice S5 bumper conversion. Need to see installed pics.

That's just the base coat...

And in person they look kinda crappy I guess. I'm pretty sure I didn't have the gun set right. Spray pattern seemed spot on but I think I was spraying a lil dry in terms of the paint itself...also, looking back, I think I had the pressure at the gun too high as well. Might try and **** with it when I do the clear but maybe not. This is all an experiment..I'd like to be good enough at it that I can comfortably re-paint my cars.

I'll post pics tonight once I lay down the clear. By tonight I mean like 3am lol
