Had a great day Monday at VIR. It was nice meeting you Bill!

Fritz, it has been confirmed I broke my left side front sway mount. No wonder that bitch was understeering... oh well they are on the way.

Same! Had a pretty good time overall.

Sheesh, it looks like nobody made it through the weekend unscathed: Ashraf had a split cooling hose. and caught a small rock in his windshield. Matt had a sticking caliper which we replaced Monday morning (after he drove over an hour back down to Durham to get a spare). And I blew off the cap on a coolant fitting and dumped all my water out between turns 1 and 6 on the south course (skating on asphalt anyone?)

In any case, everyone made it safely home, and in general a good time was had by all.

Getting scathed runs w/ the territory.

Pat,
Nice to hang out some, sorry to hear about the sway and also wish the track time was a bit more abundant to allow some more time to figure that sweet new ride out.

Thanks again for the hookup on your old ride it performed very well and I had a great time trying to ride a new beast

Bill,
Nice to meet you and next time we'll have to hang out a some more.

Matt,
Hang on to your baby because you won't touche the fun you can have in a decent FD for anything shy of 20k.

Not sure when I'll be at the track again but I may do the Audi event at Summit on the Shenandoah course mid Oct.

I know I'm not a fan of the 20 min session. I wish they would have done one less group and ran 30 min sessions.

I'm doing Car Guys Oct 14-15 at VIR if you want to come on down. I'll try and make the Shenandoah event in the M3. See you soon!

I only shot video in one session and it was a very short one during which me and Pat did some lead follow for about 3 laps.

No doubt... that's why I didn't run the Mazda event at VIR grand. What would you get? 4 laps/session?

At the trackmasters I just did, the sessions were 1 HOUR, five per day. I couldn't use it all.

Damn Pete that's great. I'm going to look into that Trackmasters thing at the Glen. Now I need to convince Fritz to come up North.

Also, I think all of us need to do Road Altanta next year.

I ran RA in an open wheeler for my Skip Barber 3-day in '91. Pre FIA chicane on the backstraight. I dunno if i'd run the FD there, now that sheet metal is on my dime.

I was think about doing the Skip Barber school next year. Do you think it was really worth the money? I'm thinking if I do it I'm going to do the school at Laguna Seca- I want to drive that course.

You'll be fine at RA. You turn some nasty lap times at the Glen and it's got plenty of walls

I would love to do a Skippy lapping day or race weekend w/ my dad, but you're supposed to "keep current" with them, and I did the school years ago.

I don't think that I'd benefit much from doing the 3-day school over again at my current level, especially for $3.5k or whatever it is now. The guy at SBR offered that I could send them a "resume" and maybe they'd let me do a lap day, but I've never done it.

If you've got the cheeze, and really just want to drive Laguna, I guess that's your call, but be aware that it is a true school, with significant classroom, non-lapping excercizes, and they start you out with significant rev limits because they assume everyone is a rank amateur. I think it's really good, but not necessarily for the person that just wants to jack some track time.

Maybe look into one of the other "schools" at L.S. that's more lax.

I need to really go through the tape, but I think I cracked a 2:14 at WGI this year. Hoosiers rule.

The Glen for some reason doesn't worry me. There are parts of VIR full that worry me more. maybe also because, oddly, I have more days at WGI than any other track (9 days total now).

What else are you guys (Fritz, Pat, et al) running at SPR or VIR this year? I want to sneak one more in.

NASA has track days at Laguna, I'm trying to get into one in February. Runs about $300, and looks like they fill up fast. I was there in Aug. for the Historic Races, looks like an incrediable track with great history -
Your biggest expense would be getting out here.

Well for a NASA day, I'd think the biggest expense would be getting THE CAR there from the East Coast.

I don't think FD's would make good track rental cars! I'm sure we could find you a nice

Neon or Focus for a good price though..

On a side note, has anybody seen this guy running on a track near you in MN? I'm building a pro-touring 1970 ElCamino with an LS1 and would love to have a car set up like this one:

Lookin' good. Seems like you had a better weekend than me, eh ;P Darn those AWD cheaters Were you holding back on us for a while there or did you just really pick up the pace? Only been to VIR once (last Feb) and I kept losing the rear (of my AWD) on Turn 3 too. Guess it wasn't just me

That's why that turn is called Nascar because it's a tricky one

I just got on the track when I let the STI by so I had to warm the tires a bit but I'm always amazed how well those cars leap out of the corners. Listen to the turbo when he passes me after Oaktree that turbo was sounding sweet.

I was shaking the *** a bit because my tires were mismatched, old and worn out. However Saturday I was driving on an oil slick most of the day so every corner was sort of like what happened to you in 10 at Summit. Lots of quick no sound slides. My fill neck was leaking oil and it was getting all over my rear tires.

LOL actually sorry not very funny cause damn that had me a little worried until I saw the only real damage was a busted lip and blinker light. The 993 is built like a tank. Like we were saying if that was an FD we'd be replacing doors and fenders.

You were flying around the track Saturday afternoon and then the 1st session Sunday we felt the need to kiss the tire wall. What's really pissing me off is just when your confidence was peaking that **** happens

Can't wait for the vid

What, you too? Geez. Mebbe it's time I reconsidered using the galant as a track car.
