What happens when you drive on a gravel road behind about 10 cars:

On Saturday we drove up a beautiful mountain road only to find that the last mile or so was gravel with no place to turn around. Doh'! I just finished cleaning the car today and that dirt gets everywhere!

Some notable cars on the cruise included a porsche 944 turbo, a new mini, a couple 350z's, and an EVO VIII (he didn't have any problems in the dirt).

And Joe... you know you want to take the RX-7 crew out on your boat.

I agree with Zach about the 6 ports. I have found that the pinapple things move around in the ports more than they say they will. I do highly recommend positively securing them one way or another in the tubes. I used screws to secure mine. I have heard of engine failures caused by these things sliding up and down the sleeve.

The revived compression was probably caused by the apex seals being stuck with a little carbon from sitting. This happens regularly with a rotray that spends any time sitting still. Rotating the engine by hand can sometimes free them up. The additon of ATF, MMO, or some sort of solvents can often help in the process of freeing them up. (this is good stuff http://members.ij.net/mrmazda/cartech.html#POWERTUNE
)

FWIW, I recently tried the trick of wiring the 6 ports open on my GSLSE for a track event at VIR. I left it that way when I got home. I find it more driveable and powerful than with the actuators working normally. I plan to do a back to back comparision. I will let you know the results if I do.

Well, finally found a new FL spindle/hub, that should be here in two or three days!

Just got done ordering the pilot bearing seal, SS clutch hose, and a new clutch pedal!

Off to order the master and slave cylinder and I'll be done spending money for a while.

Soooo, who wants to earn some free beer?

So I know why my clutch went out in the first place...I'll admit I've been kicking myself in the *** for thinking that my pedal feel was normal, the TO bearing was never fully disengaging from the PP. Sooo, the PP could never get full pressure to the disc. Live and learn I guess. If anyone needs their pedal adjusted, I'm a master at it now!

This weekend if the pilot bearing seal gets here. If that doesn't get here in time, then I'm going to replace the master/slave/hose.

I'd swap out the gas and clean out the fuel pump sock before you even try starting it. Hope the battery is still good! You could always pour a little bit of ATF (1-2 tsp) into each trailing plug hole (via tube) and crank it over by hand a few times listening for compression.

I don't know what to say about squishy, I'd have to feel it for myself...when was the engagement?

D'oh! Chicane (WVRx7 here I guess) will be at my house this weekend for RevItUp, otherwise I'd come down and help out, or try to help out.

It's all depending on if the parts get here in time...I've been driving with this clutch for a damn long while...I don't even know what it's like to floor it in 3rd anymore.

your brake? its either air in the system, or sometimes when you put new brake pads on ( i know you said its been sitting for a while, but could still be the cause) the slide pins for the brake caliper could be stuck. that happens alot to lexus es300's at work. also, the air would make it squishy because it compresses opposed to brake fluid. hope i helped

im leaning towards parting the 2.3 rx7 out. i know i wouldnt be able to get what i want for it, and im not selling it for less than what i want, so someone can fix it and run around with a car i put together. its just not very streetable and i believe it would take alot of moeny to make it that way. instead, i plan to sell what i can to recoupe some money, keep all the universal turbo stuff, and turbo the 12a after i get rid of the chassis and secure a reliable daily driver. i wish i would of done that in the first place... its not a definate, but its looking that way

I'm 80% sure he's talking about the clutch...

No offense, but why is it not that streetable? ****, if it's fast, I'll take it off your hands. I even have a '83 chassis that i'd trade you!

its decent, but with the no hot start problem kicking my ***, no exhaust, over heating, backfiring under load, under boost... stuff like that. ill probably end up keeping it around, but it just sucks. i would sell it to you, but im sure i would want WAY more than you, or anyone else is willing to pay for it.

Joe I might be over next week to look up how to drain the gas. Unless its simpler than it looks.

Also where do I get rid of it?

no, never did that. the motor ran fine before it was removed from the merkur, and about a week before start up, i had the injectors out to replace the o-rings, and nothing was physically on them. i really think the tfi in the dizzy is bad, atleast thats what im leaning towards from doing some reading on the turboford forum.

im not giving up on her yet, i just need some time to be away from it. ive been building her for the last year. all my paychecks/spare time have gone into that car for all the time, and it gets real old after a while when you dont get good results back.

Pulled over

My luck ran out today. I was pulled by a state trooper on Chipenham for not displaying my front tag....he was cool about it though. He told me to take a picture when I get it back on and bring it to him the morning of my courtdate and he would take care of it...no fine or anything.

So, does anyone have a front plate bracket??!
