DC Area thread - The District, NoVa, Maryland
Well I decided to go with the atkins overhaul kit C with mazda apex seals, mazda corner seals and plugs, stock side seals, mazda main bearings, mazda rotor bearings, and a set of thrust bearings. Ordered last night along with shocks, struts, springs, all energy suspension bushings for the whole car, and steel braided brake lines from racing beat.Oh and the atkins rebuild dvd hopefully everything will be here next friday!
Well I thought I would be the first to congratulate Rocky on getting a spec RX-7. Looks like it will be a lot of fun. I can't wait to give it a spin when it is not set up for a 6'8" person
Sweet Rocky!
Theo told me he was planning on buying one soon. If I ever sell my turbo car I don't know what I'm going to do. I'll just have to convince my wife, but I'm toying with three ideas:
1). Buy a shitty Subaru for RallyX, Split the cost with a friend.
2). Turbocharge the GTUs
3). Spec 7 & get licensed(I think this will cost the most, I need to do more reasearch)
But of course, Spring brings a basement renovation project at my house, I'll try to keep it cheap.

I haven't had the time to look into everything but I don't plan on club racing this year. I need to get used to the car, shifting, road courses, etc. before I attempt that. I don't know if I need the license for FATT or HPDEs. If so, I better sign up. If not, I may want to wait a bit. It is street legal (Antique) so I don't have a tow vehicle yet. but I have friends with trucks/trailers if I am in desperate need.

That is a Hot-lap in car timer. It did not convey as he plans to continue racing with his new FC.

there is FATT, NASA HPDEs, SCCA PDXs, Track daze, probably some others I'm forgetting.
I did my first track day last year in my corolla at a NASA HPDE at it was awesome.
You don't need a license for hill climb AFAIK but you do need to prepare your car to their rules and have it tech inspected. I've been thinking of trying that for a few years now but I haven't gotten around to it. I want to replace my seats with a certified model and install a seat back brace on my roll-bar to get it legal.
I started doing HPDEs with NASA which has a good school and a great overall atmosphere. Lately I've pretty much been doing Trackdaze events which are just slightly more pricey but offer nearly double the amount of track time per weekend as they don't cram the HPDE sessions in between race/TT groups.
I have a little bit of work to do on my car this year but I'll check out the schedules and try and present some dates well in advance so we can try and agree on one.

Ha, I probably spent about as much on this car as you did on your coilovers
Yep, the guy I bought it off and his brother have been into Rx-7s from birth. Their dad has been addicted since the Rx-4 and he's gone through quite a few 7s over the years. While I was there, I got to see the first R1 sold on the east coast and was told of a '79 Rx-7 that he has and is the original owner of. He also showed me a pretty nice FB that had been turbo'd. It still had it's emissions set attached too because it had been used as a daily for a bit.
(might be for sale BTW since it hasn't been driven for a couple of years, pm me if anyone is seriously interested in it)
I was surprised that he wasn't on the forum. Maybe I'll send him a message with a link.

Was cleaning up my computer and found this old video I shot many years ago. Somehow still relevant!

If you want to see some pictures and videos of the last TnT event that a couple of guys joined me at click HERE. They are always a lot of fun and free to spectate if you aren't sure about driving your car yet.

There should be a new thread for the CFA meets in Dulles near the town center starting once the season starts. Every nice Friday there are usually a couple of us there. A bit of a drive for you but has one of the better regular turnouts in the area.
I hear Kingstown has a meet up on Mondays for enthusiast cars but I've never been. From what I'm told it isn't too organized.
