DC Area Spring Road-trip 2012

Hey everybody, it is pretty nice out today so I am sure everyone is getting the itch to go driving. The salt is starting to get washed off the roads and with the mild winter we've had so far, hopefully they won't have to add any more. It's looking like it is time for another road-trip. As some of you may know, we bailed on Shenandoah in the fall for a trip down to MIR for the Imports vs. Domestics event (THREAD) We all had a great time and I think we might try to schedule that again this year. But, this trip is about heading west and getting some fresh mountain air... yeah right it is all about the twisties Again I have placed a poll for selecting the date and we will vote on which route to take (Route A and Route B.)

Click on the route links and decide which one you are in for (there are descriptions about the stops and drive times to the left). If you are not from the DC area or do not intend to do the whole trip, just meet up with us for some of it, please indicate your intentions. If we do the long trip it would be cool to meet up with some local rotor heads in Harrisburg or WV to do Rt.33 with.

Once you decide, vote for the dates you can show, and then list your screen name, real name, and routes you are interested in doing as shown below

Will update if the car is readyby then!

I can do any day besides saturday march 24th. I might leave the rx7 at home and bring the bike out if you guys don't mind and maybe a few buddies so I won't be the only one riding. The car just isn't that much fun to drive anymore lol. Especially having no radio and a noisy transmission. I am down for Route A & B.

Just to reiterate what I've said before, these meets are more about the people then the cars. Having your car be down for service is part of owning an Rx-7. Feel free to show to the meeting spot and grab a ride along with someone else, or if you want to drive along with us in something else that is cool too (just ask Vlad he's been doing this for years now ).

Also, we can always use more cameramen/videographers too.

I'd like to make it but I don't know if I'll be able to. My brother in law gets back from Iraq sometime in that time frame, so I might be off doing family things.

If I end up being able to make it, I'll just roll with what you've got planned.

Looks like majority of people are voting for April 1st. I hope the weather stays nice. What is the estimated mileage and hours of actual cruising Rocky? Do you know?

Btw...Ian thinks we are crazy to want to cruise all day lol.

Nevermind Rocky. I looked back and did the math. Looks to be about 306 miles round trip.

It does look like it is going to be the 31st/1st weekend. If rain is in the forecast one of the days we may just do the other.

Route A: I agree it is a lot of mileage, but some of us rarely get to drive our cars on that type of road so I wanted to take full advantage. I drove part of the route out 33 last weekend on my way to Snowshoe, it was pretty clean but still some light gravel from the winter. They also got snow out there on Sunday/Monday so unless there is a lot of rain this month I think we might want to opt out of this anyway. If we were to go this route I would estimate 5 hrs of driving time. Between stops and eating, probably 8 hrs. Mileage: 300 miles

Route B: This is what we did before and I believe it ended up being about a 5-6 hr trip, drive time of about 3 hrs (Most of it puttering through the Shenandoah). 115 miles +cost of admission to the park.

Ian can call me crazy if he wants, but this isn't like normal trips where you are just driving to a destination. This is to enjoy your car and have fun with the others on the trip. The last one I didn't even notice how long we had been in the cars we were having such a good time.

If it was just me, I'd go even further out and hit the switchbacks on Rt.250 too (If I thought anyone would want to).

It appears that I will have to back out of this. My car is still up at IR Performance, and even though it looks like I might be able to pick it up before the road trip, I still need to get it in for a tune.

But neither of those issues are the real concern. My scheduled trip "overseas" has been moved up, and I am now leaving a couple days after the road trip. Needless to say, the woman will not take kindly to me being absent from the house, especially when I am do to depart for a war zone shortly thereafter..........

Sorry fellas. I will hope that we can arrange something for the fall though.

I did the 09, 10 cruises on the IKE with them. I take it you were in 'stan then. They will be leaving sometime soon for a nine month deployment.

I was there and other places...HA.

Needless to say, they got some very hard pressed people out of a bind. I just hope to never have to be in a position to call on them again.

****, I'm gonna miss this cruise, the MD BBQ, and DGRR. Ugh, this sucks.

Well I guess that means we will have to have one when you get back. Whenever that is of course.

Btw...is there a final decision on date and time of the cruise?

Mike: Sux that we couldn't get it to work out. Be safe on your trip, we'll be here when you get back

Casey: We need to get some more people interested before we make a final decision. Right now it isn't looking so good with all the maybes and people dropping out. How many people are you bringing?
