It makes driving low mileage FDs very expensive which means more of them will sit or be sold to collectors to permanently sit.
I'll be surprised if it sells for more than 60 but regardless the FD has arrived and you'll see higher prices going forward on all of them. There's currently one listed for 33k with over 100k miles and in a year or two that could be the norm rather than the exception.
Very true. As the guys on wall street always say "a rising tide raises all boats". That certainly applies for values on all cars when the low milage ones start going higher and higher.
this is anecdotal so not really evidence at all, but I just bought a CW hardtop and suddenly I am getting several messages from strangers and acquaintances wanting to buy my VR R1. these people are all specifically looking for a no sunroof car, but they all seem to be fairly experienced in the FD world.
I have a 94, white/black with a ~134,000 miles. I've owned the car since roughly 2000 and i'm the second owner, i had the the motor ported and rebuilt fairly soon after i got it. I would say the paint is poor, the wheels need refinishing, the interior is fair, the plastics are all intact, but the drivers seat is bad, i replaced the map pocket and drivers side plastics at some point. I believe the motor has a side seal leak as its blowing out smoke under vacuum (although it pulls strong and runs relatively clean under power). The motor was last rebuilt by Tripoint and frustratingly so, because it happened under the older ownership and then the new owners took over, but, i was pretty much SOL on any sort of warrantee. here is a mostly complete list of mods... I also have a good condition hood and fenders i've meant to put on but haven't and i have the original rims. The car has been mostly sitting for a year and a half, i'm just exhausted with it and i need to let it go.

your white car has a clean autocheck (I have extras so I just looked) and assuming there are no accidents or rust, you still have a complete car that is worth about $4000-4500. maybe a little more because it is white. what's going on in the quarter panel there? has there been previous repair/bondo?
Car is worth 10k or even 12k to the right buyer depending upon how well it cleans up etc.... Clean it all up, post lots of pics, running videos, get a compression test etc....
Car is worth approx 8500 for someone trying to part and make a little spending money for 3 months work LOL
Car is worth approx 5k wholesale/fast sale
Good luck!

Yeah, this is killing me. I've gone rather silent on this forum mainly because it feels like there's nothing I can do to my car, because if they keep going up like this then I'd be a dummy to actually drive a sub-20k mile one.
But I'm not a collector, it's not like I have a ton of garage space to store a car that I just lick every now and then. If they hit $70k to $100k then I should just sell mine, probably, and put it towards my next house. Practicality...uhhghghgh.

Yep.......at some point it becomes pure madness, 50k goes a long way and there are much better cars available today all things considered. I have my eye on the next GT4

yea from what I am seeing the cars under 20k that aren't trashed dissappear overnight, the cars that are 20-30k are selling, and the high dollar cars are sitting for a while. I would be willing to buy a car with a mechanical issues for the right price, but i have no desire to deal with body work or track down hard to find interior parts.

YEP
Trying to find good parts is becoming extremely difficult.
Been following the last few BaT auctions...FDs are quickly rising. I'm seriously considering selling mine there.
One thing I never noticed before..the 94s have a black intake elbow and the 93s are silver. Hmmm.
Just know its not guaranteed your car makes it live. One of the BaT guys did an AMA on reddit recently and he said something like 40% of the submissions make it on the site. They also manipulate how many and what type of cars are live at any given time. RX7's are hot right now so your chances may be good just wanted to throw that out there.

If you can, consider purchasing a higher mileage one, roller, or even one with a body kit. Something that doesn't cost very much so you can mod at your heart's content, enjoy, and drive as much as you want without the guilt. You only live once

Fritz,
I can easily be convinced. As soon as there is 'some' data that shows that. If hardtops are commanding a higher premium, it shouldn't be very hard to see.
I hope this isn't interpreted as picking a side in this war - but it is not wrong to say that if hardtops were so desirable such that they were positively influencing people's willingness to pay, that would be clearly reflected in data somewhere.

David and I have been in the market for 20 years and we can't convince you. I'm super passionate about this car and will discuss any subject as long as the conversation is in play, so we'll continue this debate for as long as you'd like
1st data point that makes sense: 95 mb PEP sold for 26 with 41k miles (extremely clean one owner car). 94 mb base sold for 33 with 70k miles (extremely clean one owner car). 95s sell for more than 94s. We can argue that as well
If you really want to understand the FD market, buy and sell 100 FDs in the next 10 years, or put the work in ;-)

It's not a war at all, it's simply a subject of conversation.
The more the FD becomes a valuable collector the more obvious all these little differences will make.

So are you saying that just because you and David said it we should all treat it as gospel?
BTW if we are using numbers of cars sold as an expertise don't forget that up until a few years ago DJ used to be adamant that FD's would NOT appreciate in value. But I guess that's different right? Granted, in his defense he actually made a thread to acknowledge that he had been mistaken all those years. So kudos to him for that.

Of course not, that's ridiculous......yes that's sarcasm
I hope you realize David is still buying and selling FDs, or in other words he has a very good handle on the current market even today? That said nothing has changed other than they are all more expensive. Again the rarer FDs will start to command 10k plus in value over the general market of touring cars.
