I can't believe it.

Do any of you think this has to do with the availability of RHD cars coming in as cheaper options to LHD natives? I have always held the position that the LHD native will hold value better but I am starting to think the RHD imports are accelerating the appreciation.

To me, it's either that or people are very happy with their investment portfolios.

I think the biggest problem with the 93 tan scheme is the transition between black dash to tan door card, that transition just not smooth, 94 don't have that problem because it is basically black interior with tan seats and carpet. I've always like tan interior over black in a dark color FD like BB and MB, I think the contrast make the interior pop much better than black, but of course you have to keep the interior clean or it'll look like a **** box

If this isn't an aberration, the FD is getting its due now. I have long believed that the FD was the best sports car to come out of Japan and should be the most valuable. The Supra remains the money king, but with the way FD prices seem to be going, maybe not for long.

Tim,

for insurance purposes: IMO your car is definitely a tier one contender. And if your insurance allows it, tier 1 + plus mods. The reason I say that because my car is insured for fair market price plus mods (I have a separate special equipment package premium).

Different strokes for different folks, that's for sure. Obviously a lot of people liked the color combo back in the day, otherwise we wouldn't have many of them around. I personally do not mind the contrast from the dash to the door panels either. My personal issue with the 93 tan interior is that there's too much tan. From the carpet, floor mats, seats, door panes, rear bins, and roof liner. Oof way too much and it gets freaking bright in there. And like you mentioned the filth is extremely noticeable.

Wow, appreciate the complement Montego. It's just hard for me to fathom insuring my ride for $70-100K, but given today's market pricing, that's about what it would take (excluding all of my labor) to recreate my car if it was ever totalled.

That's both amazing and a little intimidating.

I hope Mazda gets a clue and continues to support the RX-7 with parts the way Nissan does with their Skylines:

Yeah, looking at just the interior by itself the tan color could be a bit much. If you actually look at the whole car on the outside, where the tan interior is showing through the windows and the contrast between that and the dark exterior color is what I really like (doesn't work with VR unfortunately). Probably won't work for everyone, but it clicks for me and that's why I was so set to find a BB/tan with clean interior when I was shopping for my FD

That right there is what I expect to fetch 100K in the near future.

I bought this '94 CW/black base model bone stock with 22k miles three days ago. With this BaT auction result, I'm almost afraid to touch the car...it even has the original 25-year old tires.

Rather not declare openly on the forums. Let's just say a very upstanding gentleman held up his end of the bargain when we first started talking 6 months ago, even though he didn't have to, and followed through with the transaction. Car has never seen rain and is immaculate. Almost like a curse as I really want to enjoy it but am afraid somethings going to happen to it.

I hear that, I don't know how Austin is but if it is anything like Denver it is a legit worry.

Rich,

Keep it another 5 years and you may have a 500k car

This is some very exciting stuff to watch happen to the car we've loved/been addicted to for decades.

I wonder what an equivalent "driver" RHD to a LHD car will be worth in the future.

The FD might be getting its due, and it's amazing cuz I still believe it to be the best one to have come out of Japan but...that makes me worried that it might just be too late for it to be enjoyed. Sure, driver's cars will always exist but that's where guilt starts to grow, once all of these start to routinely come off the streets and hitting the auction blocks instead.

For now, I want to believe I'm wrong.

YEP, 50k is my limit on these cars and yours would likely sell for more than that.

Adding just 10k miles to your car would really hurt the value which why it's soooo hard now to enjoy a low mileage FD.

I have a VR R2 with 26k miles and I'm no collector so it will likely be sold soon

There are still a lot of nice high mileage FDs so no worries enjoying them.

Yeah I'm going to try to keep this car under 30K miles. It will split duties with the NSX, which I put on ~1-2K miles a year, so the FD will probably see 500 - 1K miles a year. At this rate, it will take me 16 years for the FD to hit 30K miles....

YEP

You did very well with yours and the crazy thing is it wouldn't be worth much more today because of the miles and mods. However as time goes by even clean higher mileage, modded, maintained FDs will be worth 50k plus.

However they are actually worth it
