"How to get the MOST value out of your FD? Keep it stock and restore it." I needed that advice 6 years ago.

Yeah, the black '94 on BaT has so many issues, 128K miles and is sitting at $27,500 with 5 hours to go in the auction. Already in the "crazy" zone for a project car.

I am blown away that car is selling for this much. I really wanna say "there's no way I'd pay that!" but the reality is if I were in the market, I'd be fighting over it. Gone are the days of looking to buy a 2nd FD....

I sympathize with the BAT sellers who are about to find out their clean, low mileage, auto FDs are worth less than a rusted hole in the floor.

Cars are just cheap in the USA. A new RS4 here in Thailand is ~$200k after taxes and fees. Makes spending $70k on an FD seem much more reasonable

It's definitely not a pristine car. But where are you seeing a hole in the floor? And I doubt there are many low mileage clean auto fd's left, and a manual conversion easily costs $6k these days unless you have all used parts handy and DIY. I doubt you can find another FD for sale for less than $30k that is better than this.

Can you spot the popular culture influences on these three cars?

I remember years ago my car friends use to say "There's a special place in hell for Veilside". After seeing that RX7 kit in person, I cannot agree more. That FEED kit on the yellow FD tho....mmmmm mmmmm. Marvelous.

Check the pics. It has severe rust. The worst I've seen.

You're probably right that a manual swap would cost more than the rust repair this car would need.

Credit to the seller, though, it's great they took such comprehensive photos of parts of the car that they knew were flawed, are answering questions honestly and with good frequency, and provided a healthy compression test.

This car is not worth repairing unless you have nothing better to do with your time.

It sat outside with a damp carpet, even the cigarette lighter has rust on it (imagine how effed up all the electronics are within that interior). To fix that rust you'd pretty much have to strip that car down to a shell, buy a complete floor pan, cut out the rocker panels and replace those etc....

If I was the buyer I'd strip the interior, clean really well, make it mechanically good, drive and enjoy. Meanwhile, save money for a good roller LOL.

And then fix everything else that needs fixing on this car. I don't think I've ever seen one with a crack in the dash pad. Agree this thing must have sat out in the sun, unloved, for a very long time.
