Auction vehicle so I'm guessing barn find variety.
It has definitely been sitting somewhere not so great for many years based upon UIM (Even in md if garaged the UIM will look great at 50k miles)
Every time you see an FD without a battery tie down there's a good chance it has rarely been driven over the last 3 years or more and that's not good. You don't want to be the guinea pig, UNLESS you get it cheap (for this car that's under 20k). I'm betting he bought it for under 10k so you too could still get lucky but finding a deal on these cars becomes more and more like winning the lottery LOL.
Based upon the driving video I'd say it may have a boost leak LOL. Note no mention of it because the owner likely doesn't know anything about the car.
That said I'd take this car in a heartbeat over the SSM

I'd say this was a decent deal and the market is absolutely cooling off a bit.

If you need any parts etc.... down the road shoot me PM, text, call etc.... 434 981 6714
Thanks for the offer. I had a hunch you had a lot of parts available. Once I take delivery I will assess my situation. Right now, I am ambivalent whether I should go through it and replace all the "tune up" items like plugs, wires, vac hoses, solenoids, etc or just wait till the engine blows. As shown on the auction, the compression numbers are nothing to shake a stick at. Are brand new short blocks available from Mazda?
If you have the means. Don't wait for the engine to blow. Sometimes when they blow the seals can eat the housings and other expensive parts. Once you assess it in person, if it seems like it's on its last leg, I'd rebuild it and do all the tune ups at the same time.

One thing I understand about how the engine works is that oil is injected into the combustion chamber to provide lubrication between the seal and the housing surface. Is there a chance that if this system was not 100%, and I get all the way into the replacement of the apex seals I may find that the housings need to be refinished?
Not so sure I should be asking these questions in this thread; I have so many I just don't know where to start.

I think you can still get new engines and my understanding is Mazdacomp has the best price. So once you have it up and running well take it to some autocross events or start doing track days etc.... and then apply to be a mazdacomp member so you can receive the discount. At this time I happen to have a new factory mazda engine I'll sell for 4250 but I think the mazda comp price is right around there so you are likely better off buying a fresh one.
Good suggestion and no reason to fix anything if it's not broken.
Thank you for the suggestions guys. In some ways, despite being familiar with Motorsports (autox'd MR2T for 4 years) I feel over my head in many ways. The sports car scene is all but dead in CO; but I agree that finding someone familiar to at least point out some red flags for me will be very beneficial. Anyone in CO wish to earn a 12 pack for a ride along and evaluation?

Small price reduction. Maybe a memorial day sale...........https://www.ebay.com/itm/1993-Mazda-...ha3iqh&vxp=mtr
i paid equivalent to 50k for a Spirit R FD in Japan, late limited car will be on the rise since is limited number, other early model not so much but there is high demand in Asia for used RX7 so price will not drop so much

Sold for 23.5 plus BAT commission (i think 5 percent)
All things considered not bad or more than I would pay considering paint work, bad interior, 93 etc... in other words this isn't an FD I'd consider as a keeper.

If you're looking to sell, BaT (www.bringatrailer.com) is very seller friendly and you will get what it is worth. There are a few links on this page and the previous to RX-7's that recently sold there. You can always list it with a $75k reserve; and jsut see what it gets bid up do. Will cost you some time and $99 to do that, but you will have an answer that beats our speculation.

so based on that link, what would be your guess on a 15k mike r1 totally original 9/10 car? Original paint. Glossy. No known issues.

I'd suggest listing it on ebay with a 35k reserve and see how it goes.
