No that's cool Andy, I completely understand. I would do the same. I would like to meet him and see him work though. Good luck with the search. I agree with Stina, it is one sexy beast, haha.

WOW!!! Putting games over cars?!?! I'm ashamed of you, lol. j/k, understandable though. We all have our side hobbies...and gas IS expensive...is it sad when we spend less money on gas in the SRT-4 than the FB even running 93 octane in the SRT, lmao!!! The FB is getting like 15mpg while the SRT is staying solid in 22-25mpg range. We need to get the FC fixed so we can stop driving the gas hog(AKA the FB).

Hmm...so, the FB has the least hp and the worst gas mileage...The FC has the middle range hp and middle range gas mileage...and the SRT has more hp than both 7's combined and has the best gas mileage of all...

That can't be right What gives?

Hey now, we can't forget Joey is "Classically (sp?) Trained", HAHAHAHA. I love that shirt. And gas down here isn't too bad right now. 87 is like $2.47 in some places here in town.

Well my FB was not stock by any means and I got 19 MPG in the city. I think that was pretty good. One of the best things that you can do to a stock FB is put a Racing Beat header on it, will help your gas mileage and will give you more power. The stock exhaust manifold is terrible.

Yes, I can't complain. Gas is MUCH better than it was...but still not less than 2 bucks for 87 like it was in the not too distant past...but I have a feeling those days are over. So Eric, are you as bored on a Friday night as I am? I'm so bored I'm trying to figure out how to fix my cruise control in the yard using a flashlight, lmao! Friday night fun for me, YAY!!! lolz

Thanks for that carl. I am in the middle of an experiment actually. I ran techron through one tank(when it got to half), next tank I ran Sea Foam(at half tank again). Then I replaced the plugs, retuned the carb, changed the fuel filter and I should fill up tomorrow and start seeing some changes. I will be punching the cat soon and I'll look into a racing beat header. I think changing the fuel filter made a WORLD of difference...but we'll see.

Here's an entertaining story for you Carl...
I go to Advance(since I work there) and buy the fuel filter. No prob. Get home and pop the hood to change it where I saw it before...it isn't quite the right size, so I go back and exchange the stock one for one of the same style it had in the engine bay(one of those "Mr Gasket" inline fuel filter jobs). So I get that, go home and open the new haynes manual for directions on changing the filter. It says the filter I had is right and it's under the chassis in front of the tank..."Hmm." I think to myself. Drop to the ground and look under the rear end. Lo and behold, the fuel filter is still there and dirty as hell!!!!!!!! Some dumb **** decided to add an EXTRA fuel filter to filter the gas...ummm...right. So I went BACK to advance and go BACK to the filter I had, buy a foot of Fuel line, REMOVE the filter in the engine bay and change the filter in the rear...seems like I'm already seeing a difference in the speed the needle drops at. Some dumbarses should NOT be allowed to work on their cars!!! There are SEVERAL other reasons I say that in this guys case, but I'm not going there right now. I'll publish a book on it later, lol.

Damn that's expensive, 93 is $2.53 here on base! Only wish I had my car with me so I could actually take advantage of it! Only a few more days till she's home.

Haha yeah Ive seen some stuff like that on other people's cars, its amazing what people just slap together. All of those little replacements will add up. Looks like you've started to do the right things to it. Next thing I would do if you think the previous owner was an knucklehead, id top off the trans fluid and change out the rear end fluid. Rotarys are really hard on spark plugs, I change those every 10,000 miles or so. Don't know if your car still has the stock beehive oil cooler thingy...its pretty easy to put a front mount oil cooler from a FC in. Know anyone with an FD in Raleigh for sale? Im looking.

I don't know who sells them, but there is apparently a Black FD in pretty good shape for sale for like $14,000 in the area...I'll hafta get the guys number for you. He's sold TWO of our friends in FL FD's now and both seem to be pretty legit and stable. As for doing the right thing...diff fluid is next on the list to change on Sat or Sun and I had TOTALLY forgotten about Trans fluid(duh!). As for the oil cooler, it has a front mount, but it leaks. Some knuckle head over torqued it and stripped some threads. It's a slow leak, but one of our crew has already been kind enough to offer me an FC oil cooler to replace it with. It's only a matter of time till we get around to it. I DID just change out the plugs and they looked GRAVELY neglected. After changing them I had to retune the carb so it wouldn't try to stall when I romped the gas. At idle she would sputter and try to cut out if I floored it in neutral. She's fine now. Seriously trhough, there are SO many things this guy did wrong. I've already put about a quarter of the book here, lol. He DID put in an e-fan with a thermostat...but he put it on a permanent power source and he bought the cheap Economy battery!!! Yeah, that battery went within 2 weeks and I installed a switch in the cockpit for the fan(so it doesn't turn on itself when it's hot outside...it's a black car). So many issues. I think it's about caught up though. Only a few more things to do.

Well thanks for that information...that will help when I start building my FB . I still love your FB btw, I'd like mine to look that good someday.

I agree, I wish this were the good ol' days of just a few years ago when gas was around $1.50, but I also fear those days are over. I wasn't so much bored Friday night, I just knew I couldn't really go anywhere. We left at 7am for Carowinds yesterday morning so I couldn't stay out late. Even though messing around on the forums or the computer in general usually puts me in bed well after 1am anyway, and did again Friday night/Saturday morning, haha. Good luck with that cruise control, and that's a pretty funny story about the fuel filter too, haha. <----you trying to fix other's mistakes, haha.

I couldn't bring myself to the selling part, I'd be keeping every one of them, haha. Thanks for the info though, Inacio would like to get either an FC or an FD.

Dave, Great to hear from you. It has been awhile, it would be good to see you this fall if you can make it out. I thought you were going to school over in Statesville, the same place Steve was going? You now gettin' edumacated in Florida? Tell me the story or was I just wrong about in state?

I also need to thank Greg and Rodney confirming that the bad drivetrain vibration I was having. They both agreed it should be the drive shaft and had both had the problem. I did some forum searches and even found Greg's post about his problem at the beginning of last year. Guys, I took your advice and found two sources, Mazdatrix and Drive Shaft Specialists, for a replacement DS with removable U-joints. I decided to go with Drive Shaft Specialists since they were located in Texas and shipped free. I called them on Monday and they said they could build one and ship it out on Tuesday or Wednesday. They even told me what U-joints they'd use so that I could replace them if I had to. They were $7 higher on the DS than Mazdatrix but included shipping in their price and since they are located in Texas I figured I'd get the part a few days sooner.

The part arrived on Friday and I installed in on Saturday. Got to put it up on a lift and that made the changeout a whole lot easier. She runs as good as ever and the replacement DS was fully balanced and fit perfectly. The GTU is fully roadworthy again. While I had it up on the lift I worked on the exhaust system hangers and improved how the mufflers were positioned. Again thanks Rodney and Greg for the advice and confirmation that the DS was causing the bad vibes. I didn't go with the light weight DS due to dollars, just the stock replacement.

Looking forward to the next road trip.

The shop I was lucky enough to use was Clayton Custom Cars and it was a treat just to see what they have been working on. They build mega HP show cars with 1941 ****** body kits and all customize interiors, audio and video systems, customized engine installs. They had two late 60s corvettes and a plymouth Road Runner in the shop that they preping for the next Barrett-Jackson auction in Miami. The engines they use are phenomenal, fully chromed, 500+ HP with nitrous and just about anything a customer wants done to them. I think they use primarily corvette engines, no rotary engines yet! Maybe some weekend we can take a road trip down I-40 and tour the shop.

so i start up my car to head out to the bookstore, im quite excited.. (who isnt when they drive these things).. well, all goes well.. it turns on, and i start to back ou, as i turn my head back and shift into first, what do i see but white smoke billowing out from around my hood.. i immediately turn the car off and pop the hood and rush around to the front of the car.

i ordered my fire extinguisher a few days ago, so i was praying to god it wasnt TOO serious.. it was a small fire, just under the tube (forgive the lack of mechanical knowledge) that connects to the throttle body, right above the spark plugs and near the oil filter.. i manage to get the fire out, and hope for the best as i survey the damage.. i cant see any visible damage.. no wires melted through or anything of that nature.. even those cheap black ribbed tubes that were nearby showed no signs of melting..

upon further examination, there was a small oil leak where the car was parked.. toward the right front tire.. im guess where the oil pan is. I also changed my spark plugs yesterday.. and drove the car around fine (IE no fires).. the fire was just under where the tube connects to the throttle body.. there was no gasket there when i removed it, so needless to say there wasnt one there when i put it back on.. is it possible that maybe it wasnt on tight enough?

any help would be appreciated..

it's so funny to me that you're in the market for one now, since you've been an FB guy since we've all known you. It looks like alot of us are looking at the FD as the next toy for the driveway...

I hope you fully interview the new owner before you sell your FB!!! Otherwise, I WILL hunt them down regularly.

thadeous check your fuel lines. the come in from the tranny tunnel and go to your fuel rails directly behind the elbow(pipe that connects to the TB) there are three rubber lines that are easily accessible. to access the other lines you will have to remove the Upper Intake Manifold(UIM). If you are still twin, be careful with the vacuum lines.

Well I just see it an upgrade! I really want an FD roller, but id consider a running car. People are not going to like what Im going to do with the engine situation if I get one though. Im not a huge fan of turbos. .

Jesse has wanted my car from the day he saw it and he is trying to buy it. I really want him to have it, that way I can still hook him up with wheels and parts.

If you go N/A 13B that would be upsetting but if you are thinking more along the lines of a PP 20B that would be awesome.
