You could get by wearing a miata maintenance uniform. PINK Coveralls. Marriage is great, I just reminder her that I have one car and she has 10 times more shoes that anyone could ever wearout in a lifetime. She likes shoes, I like rotaries. She needs many, I need just one. :0)

Hey Greg, I spent sometime on the RRDI website yesterday and you've put together a really great album of our RRDI photos. I really like the members pics with their cars; that gives you a better appreciation for the size of the RRDI and all the rotaries that have stopped by at least a couple of times.

I need to do a better job of getting pics of everyone now that Barry is in school at UNC-Charlotte. Maybe between, Doug and Beth and I and Bobby and whoever else takes pics we can get a member photo on the person's second Drive-In. On the first visit they're a visitor but if they comeback after being at one drive-in then they qualify for membership! Here's a good member/car pic I didn't see posted on your site yet, one of the Leverette boys doing some PR work for the RRDI with the Graham County Sheriffs Office:

Bert, I like the comment about the shoes . and that is a cool pic of David. The sherriff was such a good sport.

We still need to rent that house we talked about in the spring, It was a good time but would be better if we were all together in one big house.

I went to the Mazda dealership today to check out the 2005 MazdaSpeed (Meeata). Well, I have to say that it is truly a chick car. Way too slow. Fun car, great handling, but it felt like my RX-7! Why would I want to buy a car for the price of an EXCELLENT condition FD, and the miata is SLOWER???? The thing was turbo charged. Hah. David's 4 banger is way more fun. I'd get that before I got a meeata.

If I got a Miata, it would be a 90s model, and I'd use it as a daily. Nothing more. I couldn't see myself admitting to people that I make payments on a new car... that's so girly and boring.

I was looking at the new miata so I could do a TII swap on my FC. Looks like I won't be getting anything non-rotary for a while... nothing's struck my interest enough yet.

I'll probably end up having just about as many rotaries as I do shoes someday. I'm so weird, dood. LOL... I have my huge shoe collection... maybe I should get a rotary to coordinate with each pair!! The back hatch could be considered my purse.

I have this one of him on the RRDI site.

Yeah, what a day that was........

The man had an eye on us from the start!

The man giveth. the man taketh away!

Hey, he was just trying to help out his bro!

Me and Johny just played it cool the whole time.

Of course, Bert got a good talking to by the man.

Honest officer, we'll behave for the rest of the weekend....

And the rest as they say, is history. Plus a few tire marks.

So it would be 475 for all of it? I might be down for that, it would take me about 3 weeks to have the money though, so I doubt you will wait that long. I wouldn't be able to put it on immediately though, I talked with Jesse and I understand now the few preliminary stuff to get out of the way first. But it would be really nice to already have that squared away. I ran a 10.5 at the 1/8th of a mile tonight. I'm sure that exhaust would improve that. Then again, I did some horrible driving and forgot about the ice bag until after my 11.23 run.

REALLLLLLLLLLY IMPORTANT!!! After fiddling with an already broken window switch, I broke it even worse, and now my passenger side window is down and I have no way of getting it up (ha ha ha, yea, what a pun). Seriously though, I have no idea what I'm going to do, I think I'll ask my dad if I can store it until I can get a part to fix it, but I really want it done ASAP. I will give anyone whatever they ask for, under a $100, for a window switch that is IN GOOD CONDITION, and willing to install it for me. That's not bad considering I wasn't born yesterday and know the part is about $25 at the most and maybe about 30 seconds of labor. I just need the switch and housing, not the wires, just everything above the wires. This is the driver's side one btw. I'm going to try and fiddle around with fuses tomorrow and see if the passenger side switch will want to work for me. I blew the 30A and tried a 20A, but that only worked for so long.

Yea, just tried it, didn't work, I blew one 20A fuse, but none of the others even made the passenger side window motor give a whirrr. I will head up to Napa tomorrow and get a 30A fuse, and then call the local junkyard to see about a switch. But if someone would either call me (919-757-5227), PM me, or find me at Staples tomorrow (1pm to 8:30pm) and replace the part, I would really appreciate it. I can't afford to have a rained out car and absorb all the whining from my girlfriend as I take her to her homecoming dance.

On the brightside though, Capital Collision did an impeccable job on the repairs. I would highly reccomend them to anyone who's had a collision. I'm very satisfied. And now I'm going to sleep hoping that when I wake up the car will have rolled it's own window up.

Trooper Sama was a really nice guy. I heard that he even arranged a law enforcement escort home for the RRDI guys on Sunday. I wrote his sergeant and the head of the NCHP a nice letter of appreciation for what Trooper Sama did for us. I think it always helps on a car event if we treat the LEAs as a friend instead of our enemy.

I am ready to do it again next year. As soon and I can get a 2006 date on the Deals Gap Rotary Rally I'll check on the availability of the house.

Remember RRDI T-shirts, if you're a rotary driver you got to have one. The more we order now the cheaper they'll be.

Hey when the window wasn't going up on my Supra beater we just rocked some waterproof plastic **** duct taped to the window. It was ghetto but it kept the water out at least.

I'm about to head out to NOPI in like an hour. We're going to go pick up Rick's FD from Rotorsports on the way down... it turned out he had a cracked turbo housing.

Beth thought that I should share this one with the RRDI group:

So, I'm coming back from lunch yesterday...

I was jumping onto the 440 onramp from Poole road, and I guess that I kinda 'let-it-out' a little. As I was merging into the sparse traffic, I spotted a white Crown Vic in the far left lane. I had already began to back off considerably by the time I had settled into the lane.

Looking into the rear view mirror again, I saw that the Crown Vic was right behind me. All I could think at the moment was "Oh ****!". Sure enough, just past the New Bern offramp, he lit 'em up, and I pulled over immediately just past the 2nd New Bern exit.

While I sat there waiting, I figured that I was hosed. I am not sure exactly how fast I was going, but I'm pretty sure that it was better than 80. You see, my wife and I have a running bet as to who is going to get a ticket first. Right then, I pretty much figured that I had just lost the bet.

The cop, sporting a white dress shirt and dark tie, badge on his belt, strolled up to the side of the car. This is basically the conversation that took place"

"Afternoon", he said.
"Afternoon", I replied.
He had both hands on the window sill, and I could tell he was looking inside of the car.
"This is one of them thar Mazdas, ain't it? One of them thar 8's?", he said, pronouncing the first 'a' as you would in the word 'mass'.
"Yes sir. A Maxda RX8." I could feel my voice cracking.
"My wife said that she saw you the other day. Recognized you by your SHINKA plate", he continued.
Great, I was thinking. I was probably speeding then too.
"She really liked it. Made a good impression on her", he continued.
By now, I couldn't tell if he was just ******* with me or what.
"How do you like it?" he asked. Okay, I'm sort of stunned at this point in time.
"I love it. Had her for a few months now. My fifth rotary."
"Huh. Rotary eh?"
So, I went through the whole pitch. How it works, what you have to watch out for (being different than a piston engine). Opened up the hood for him to look at, opened up passenger door along with the back door showing him the room. Let him look inside of the trunk. Told him where we bought the car from, who are salesman was. The whole nine yards. I pitched this car like my life depended on it.
"Damn", he said. "She sure is a pretty car."
"Yup, she's a beaut alright" There was a few awkward moments of what seemed like forever. I expected him to whip out his ticket book at any moment, when I realized that he didn't have one with him.
Finally he said "Well listen, you have yourself a nice day now, you hear?". And he turned and started to walk away.
"Yes sir! You do the same" <ohshitohshitohshit>
After I got into the car, closed the door, and waited for him to pull away, he got back out of his car and walked back toward me. <doubleshitdoubleshitdoubleshit>
But again, he was empty handed.
"Oh, and by the way", he started. "In the future, you might want to watch your onramp speed. Wouldn't want anything bad to happen to her now, would you?"
"No sir! I'll be careful". I guess that constituted my warning.

And that was basically it. He waived at me as he pulled past me back onto the freeway.

First Beth trying to steal gas and now you blazing the 440 ramp...... sounds like you fit in the club perfect. Sounds like you're ready for the Deals Gap trip. Maybe even the terrror through the carolina back roads that Steve-o led us on at the first GRR. Good story

Anyone know where I can buy a 54mm socket (flywheel nut)?
I've tried 4 different auto parts/supply stores already and they all basically said "wow, that's big!". Even Sears only goes up to 36mm (and that was in the salesman's catalog).

I plan on going on the 24th. Not to mention purchasing my very own RRDI t-shirt!!!

By the way, I think my dad and I will be able to fix my window situation. I can't wait, he has to order some switches from his work, but he knows how to wire stuff. I wish I could do that.
