VIR Adventure

The trip up to VIR yesterday was great, it was a good day to be on the road with other rotaries. Carl, Jesse, Josh and I took rotaries up, yep all 3 generations of RX7 proudly represented. One of Jesse's buds went up in his 240. The drive up was fun, Josh found Johny and T.O. was already there waiting on us.

T.O.s 8 looked great with the CF hood and new front end and was running good. Johny had a problem with Tiffany and had to bring the 10th AE. It was my impression that with Tiffany's new look and engine she has become a little tempermental and had a tantrum Friday when she found out she was going to have to go to VIR and share a track with the non-rotary riff-raff. The 10th AE is in emmaculate condition and with only 72K original miles was a thing of beauty.

The parade laps were dissappointing due to the number of drivers out, the track was a little too congested but it was still fun to get out on it and drive the grand course with the added .9 mile.

Just a reminder to all, next RRDI a group is planning on caravaning down to Rockingham for the NOPI event so anyone that wants to drive down for that should post and get all the details. Christina is the person with the details.

Great time Saturday, thanks to all that went over to VIR, We'll plan another trip up this summer for a race and then plan on going up for the Holiday laps in December.

Im glad you put a captin with that pic.

. Tiffany's report
It appears I have broken a dowel land on the rear iron. I will have to pull the motor find a iron get it ported and put it together and reinstall it.
All of this happened Fri as I was getting ready for this weekend.

VIR report
I decided to take "Princess" I didnt want to lose my $400.00. I put my wheels and tires on her and my hawk pads. She ran great I ran her pretty hard but was a little extra carful with her. My instructer signed off on me, meaning I was safe to go solo late SAT and all day SUN. We had about 1 hour of class each day You really learn a lot from these weekends I highly recommond eveyone do this.

I never ran off track no did I do any damage. The parade Laps were cancelled Sun. because a INSTRUCTOR backed his VIPER into the guard rail on the session before lunch causing major damage to the car. If you damage the facility you are also responsible for damage. Expensive weekend for him.
Take care
Johny

Johny,
Was it the newer black viper that hit the guard rail? If it was him, he tore off the front bumper the last event. Carl

Christina it looks like my saturday will be open. I am going.

Steve, good luck with the wedding. Better you than me.

Barry, I am too lazy to click on your link. How is the swap going?

Johny, glad the weekend turned out well for you. On the way back from the track I got to race a guy on a Harley in 4th gear. I didnt even downshift and put about 3-4 car lengths on him by the time we let off. somewhere in the 50-100+ range. i know i woulda gotten some more if I'd downshifted. anyhow, i think i was just excited with all the cars, and not being able to get above 80 on the parade laps. Oh, I think I got my fuel map sorted. I gotta put the wideband on again, but she is pulling smoothly even at partial throttles.

Perky - I have to work Staurday so I can't make it down there.

VIR guys - I am envious, wish I could have made it last weekend.

tcorney - I've got two and live in Garner also. '91 turbo and '88 vert both red.

Just remember that the NOPI trip will be our first RRDI outing but there will still be an RRDI gathering for those that aren't going to Rockingham on Saturday. I have to work midnight to 8:00 again this weekend so I'll be at the Char Grill on Saturday. If we can get two verts, two turbos, two FBs and a couple of FDs we'll have a drawing for a bottle of Purple Ice to keep your babies cool this summer. I picked a bottle up at Tires'n Parts when I picked up the RP syn oil last week. Been running the RP in my car for a couple of weeks now, including the trip up to VIR and all seems to be doing fine. I have noticed less smoke on startups and I'll be checking my gas mileage to see if I see any improvement there.

I'm NEVER disappointed on parade laps. Sometimes the slower the better. It gives drivers a chance to observe the track more closely looking for reference points, surface features, think about different lines...etc. When am I going to see you in an HPDE school?

FYI...There are two HPDE events this fall on Rockingham's infield. I hope to attend both. It would be nice to have more rotaries participating.
