haha, we'll see what we can work out. what i am going to do is add up the paint, plus prep time, plus spray time. i figure $20 an hour is pretty reasonable(since most mechanics & shops charge 3 times that for labor) and see how it adds up. i think the majority of the time is in prep, so if i do get setup and you guys want it sprayed, you can save a lot of $$$ by doing the prep. good prep takes a long time.

i was tired of seeing the fiero in my parents driveway all abandoned. now that i have gotten down to it the frame isnt in the bad of a shape. a little cutting a little welding and she will be ready to roll, after a new paint job. then i can start on that 3.8L swap I want. i think 250HP will be enough to make it interesting.

then after that the rx7 is gonna start its road to becoming a quasi-trailer queen. i wanna start doing some shows after i get the paint perfect, and the interior done.

after that who knows, maybe a miata that i can take to the track and flog. she'll be my fat chubby girl. i ride her when i want to, but don't brag to any of my friends about it. unless you guys can think of a cheaper more reliable track car, with the same handling characteristics from the box. I want something that i can buy for 2-3K and with minimal investment (ie wheels/tires, maybe new OE shocks) take to autox and road courses *putting flame suit on* if you guys can think of another car let me know, cuz i haven't been able to.

Hey Josh I worked on a DSM yesterday with your exact turbo, SP63. The car should be running in a week or two and should be putting down 500awhp. He has a 6 bolt 2.3L stroker with 8.8:1 pistons and forged rods. He'll be running 20psi on pump gas with methanol injection. I'll try and get him to bring it to a meet this summer assuming everything gets running. DSM's are about as bad as FD's as I'm sure you know...

thats awesome Ray. I think the FD would put down about that much on 20PSI, but i doubt I will crank it that far. Though i do plan on getting water injection, so who knows. hope his tranny stays together(i hear that is the biggest problem with the DSMs)

i know i may get shot for this, but i dont think a FB or FC handles as well as a Miata. Not in stock form at least. My biggest thing is to keep it stock. I don't want to start another project yet, and when I do it is gonna be either a NSX or Scoobie.

That's fine, you drive your miata, I don't care if it is faster and handles better than my FB.... I'll still make fun of you.

Any of you 8 owners have suggestions for improving performance? I am about to buy a new 2005 and need some advice. My FC is a great machine but i drove the 8 and was truly impressed with the handling.

I know the queer jokes will flow if i get a miata. i just meant that if i buy an FB or FC i will feel compelled to restore/modify it, since i like the car. i wouldnt feel even the smallest inclination to do anything to a miata; roll bar, wheels, maintenance & thats it.

Lee, I think the only way you are gonna get performance out of a RX8 is to go forced induction. i have read quite a bit about them and it seems like you can easily throw ~$2-3K at one and wind up with a 10HP increase. I think if you buy a RX8 you just gotta live with the performance or go to a turbo or supercharger. however, i am no expert, i am just telling you what i've read in articles (we are talking articles where they dyno before & after).

I own an 8, and as AntiVenom7 said, the only power upgrades your going to get is in FI. There is one turbo kit that will push almost 300 to the wheels, that will run you $8-9k with parts+installation (must upgrade the fuel injectors). Intakes and exhausts are meerly eye candy on our machines. Tuning it might get you 10-20 more horses, and maybe another 20 if you port it. But on the bright side, it does handle very well and some of the exhaust kits do sound nice.

Thanks guys. I agree on the handling. I was not all that impressed with the torque. I had thought about an S2000 but I knew you guys wouldnt talk to me anymore if I did that one.

i really like the S2000 personally but its a really really compact car, great handling and really nice feel overall. the RX-8 gives a more well rounded and more versitile apeal that the S2000 lacks (yet makes up in performance).

and i would also like to see how the reliability of the new RX8 will compare with previous rotaries, if it will last 50k 100K or even 250K i cant wait to see the damage reports

Miatas require less TLC, anyway. I don't think I'd ever own one... not until I get ahold of cars with more HPs anyway.

...If you get an NSX........... and you ALREADY have an FD, I'll cry.

You know the NSX, Supra, and FD are my dream cars. Lemme know if ya need some help... uh... car sitting? I work for free! LOL

yea well after talking to some people i think i might move away from the whole japanese thing, and get something with some v8 grunt. I am thinking ramair transam. it will be closer to the end of the year anyways, so i guess i have plenty of time to think about it.

my brother and i may buy a miata to share. leave it at home in shame until it comes time to go to the track or whatever. i mean $3-5K is not a huge investment; hell my wheels and tires cost almost that much, and if you split that in half it isnt a big deal at all.

either way like i said it will be close the end of the year/beginning of next year before i am ready to start an all new project.

Trans-Am. *drool*

Yeah... Don't get me started on my AMERICAN dream car list.

I had my interview today for a full time job at the Cary Wake Med... and it sounds like it's a definite thing.

I'll be owning a TII by September-ish!

After talking to some people huh. THEY'RE POISONING YOUR MIND, just like television!

I go through different phases myself, like most recently I have had the urge to get a black 85 buick regal with a V8. Just before that it was a BMW M3 e39.

I don't think I could get rid of my 7's, I don't have any where to keep anymore cars. It sucks living on base in the barracks, I have a closet full of car parts and I live on the third floor.

jason, i switch cars every other day, too. by the time i am ready to buy it will be something alltogether different. I am starting a collection; Fiero, RX7, _________(fill in the blank). I am gonna need like a 5 car garage, and still have cars out in the driveway.

That is great Christina! you are gonna be pulling in the big money. I am not adverse to having a sugar mama, if you are in the market.

As far as the Rx-8 goes, Horse has a nitrous kit on his. Obviously you'd void the warranty, but I'm sure you expected to do that anyway if you want some power.

Lee, just wanted to let you know that you're treading on might thin ice just admitting that you had thoughts about getting an S2000. That is like someone dying and standing at the Pearly Gates ready to enter heaven and hesitates a moment because he wonders if he is making the right decision. Come on man get your ECU outa your muffler, one has a rotary engine and one does not! Where's the confusion

And Josh, I don't know what to think, you seemed to overcome your attraction to little girls and now you have fantasies of owning a miata now that you've got the FD roadworthy? Are you serious? Are you trying to tell us and your girlfriend something? Remember the "miata guys" at Deals Gap? I'd say its time we all get together and caravan our rotaries out to a Mudcats or Durham Bulls game, and take Josh with us. The guy is getting too lite on his feet. Anyone up for a manly night of baseball and rotaries? Yeah Christina, you are welcomed and encouraged to join us. Maybe you can remind Josh of how handsome and dashing he is in his rotary machine.

RRDI Twin Rotor Logo

Here is the Raleigh Rotary Drive-In twin rotor logo I've been trying to post up for comments:

Let me know what you think and some ideas about how to use it.

I WANNA GOOO! We definitely need to do fun outings together... even if they aren't necessarily rotary-related! We all need to chill more... cuz alot of us only see each other at meetings.

my GOD!! i have just finished detailing my wheels on my 10th. and let me tell you there is nothing more annoying then brake dust and white wheels!!

Bert i love the new logo, it would look great on a white T, like one small one on the front over the heart and a bigger one on the back center
