Haha that book came with my Ghia

Cept its from 2003 according to the front pages.. Never opened it I just wing it hahaha

As for the rotary ghia its not a power thing. Its just classy to keep the original spirit of the car with certain cars. Just like a piston powered FB. I could never do it. The Ghia, to me, is one of those cars. I had a bug and I really thought about making a "cv axle snapper" rotary engine, but I didn't want another project.

As a side note I'm stepping out of the rotary game. Taking a graceful exit. Anybody interested can have everything I got for 5k just make an offer. I think I've blown a coolant seal in my 6 port engine and enough is enough.

Sad to see you go James, you were one of the last intelligent ones.

Now that Paul, he's another story.

It is what it is. Mazda comes out with an RX9 I might be game, but I am not holding my breath on it.

I gotta say its the coolant seals. I mean what makes those things break?!?!?! I just rebuilt the engine and I had a failure? I know the symptoms because its not the first time. I'm just under the impression that its 30 plus years of metal fatigue on those iron plates. All of the iron plates that I get will have the same 20 plus years of fatigue. So there is no avoiding future failures. And I'm not rebuilding every time one of them takes a dive.

I got no qualms with the rotary engine; just had my fun and now its time to move on.

Today I tried "blue devil" the evil head gasket sealant, but I have little faith in it. I might be pulling the engine again before DGRR and rebuilding. Its just so tiresome.

You're sounding broke and down hearted James and the Rotary Gods are testing you for sure.

But these moments in Time pass, just like Trump's ****-Doodle-Dooing on the news tonight, it will be history tomorrow.

Here' s video of the Trumpster I just copped from CNN, check out Pence at the end, that part's really funny:

Give the Blue Devil a chance, you never know.

And give us some details on the symptoms, videos would help.

This is what OGTA is for. We're sure hoping to see you at DGRR, maybe even the April OGTA meeting too.

Blue devil worked... I think. Time will tell..

I guess I just got so dishearten. I'm definitely going to sell this car and I don't see a rotary car anytime soon. I just LOVE Porsche so much. And that supercharged LS swapped 986 is just calling me. But you never know; I really want to do a peripheral port RX8 (and the coolant groves are in the housings so no chance of them failing there) and I also would love a PP sand rail. BUT for the moment I'm done.

Cabriolet, 996, $35000, and automatic? Nothing about that is appealing.

Ray I'm talking something along the lines of my wife's old car (986) with a supercharged truck engine in it.

For the car and all engine and modification goodies I'd be under 10000 total.

When you think about it 10 000 is a LOT of money for a car, but if its a mid engined 500+ hp supercharged V8...… I mean you can't get near a Ferrari with $10 000 LOL

And 500 whp is like nothing for a truck engine. That Porsche tranny can handle up to 600 torques before failure. So all of this is normal for the components I'm using.

And I'm going to put a cayman hard top body kit on so add $3000 to the price. hehe Cause 986's only come in cabriolet and I do not like convertible.

Something like this. And a $1000 truck engine and wire harness. About $1000 in paint. The cross members, support brackets, coupler, flywheel, and adaptor plate are made by a Colorado company for $5000 (I know expensive, but it comes with header back exhaust so deal???). And of course the for mentioned Cayman hard top is $3000 shipped. Superchargers run about 2k or abouts.

This is an expensive 986, but it is pretty nice looking from the pictures. I'm not on board with the wheels though. The Boxster's I usually look at cost around 2-4k.

$5000 seems like a lot for the kit, but it has a whole lot of stuff and all you have to do is weld in the bracketry. It does retain all the rigidity of the original car; as you have to cut and remove a lot to fit a 5.3 in a vehicle designed for a boxer. And I guess it has that "badge tax" (paying for the Porsche nameplate).

Let's see, adding things up I got you around $35,000 for a porch that's ten years older than that one in the craigslist ad.

Without adding on all the work of putting it together.

And I'll bet that automatic would be pretty easy to get used to.

Are you sure you don't want to stick with 7's James? Have you talked to the wife about this?

haha Ray you are just seeing the badge.

Porsche typically has two cars in its lineup, and a bunch of money getters cars for people who want to look cool (Ie torege vw that wears Porsche emblems etc.). In the beginning it was the VW Beatle and the 356. Then it was the 911 and 914-6. Then when the engineers decided to stray from air cooled they birthed the 911 and a mutant mid engined 911. (I don't count the 944.928,924 etc.)

So the car you posted is the top dog the 911 or 996. The car I posted is a mid engine 986 or boxster the "cheap" Porsche of the lineup.

The other problem when buying a Porsche is when people "baby it". That actually causes more problems in a race breed engine than it helps. Particularly with the M96 (I think that's the number???) engine. By 08 I think Porsche was putting duel row IMS bearings in, but still without driving the ***** off of the engine I'm sure that bearing is toast. A "babyed" 996 would require an IMS replacement; if I wanted to keep that car.

As for buying a 1997-05 boxster over a newer Porsche... I like the interior more. Simple as that; my wife had a 986 for a few years and I loved the interior. I also don't like the push button start cars (I think its hokey).

You do realize I'm LS swaping a mid engine car? So work involved isn't even close to the right word Shoot I'm going to have to build a rig to take the engine out of the car.

I had a tiptronic automatic in my last Porsche. I hatted it. Stupid gear box didn't do as it was commanded. We only bought the car because it was cheap and an easy flip. But to hell with that tiptronic.

What??? are you crazy my wife just about jumped for joy when I said I was selling my 7. She hates that thing LOL And she misses her old Porsche. So when I said I would do a V8 swap in a 986 she was ecstatic.

Shoot man, you're too quick. Maybe nobody buys my car for the asking price and I cool off for 5 years or so. I come back to it and get a BA ball bearing turbo, Tii trans, and an 8.8 rear end and make a real monster RX7 out of my old redneck rocket.

Now you're talking James, last time I met you you weren't a rich man, grease all over the place and the wife was there.

It was a December meeting as I recall. Cold, only True Bloods showed up.

I also remember the time you delivered a 12A core to Jefferson in that turboed SA of yours.

Snug as a bug in the passenger's seat, like it belonged there.

And then you returned to your place with a drum rear end out of the White One Ghost, the one that Carlos got.

In the SA, it just fit, horizontal across the cabin.

That was impressive, worthy of the Rotary Gods for sure. You got a future in Wankels James, stick with it.

So you gonna have it ready for the April 2 OGTA Meeting?

I've got three of them, any one of which will fit in your passenger seat.

Or in the hatch area if you want to bring the wife.

It would be good to see you guys James.

Done, I think she has off on Tuesday, and I'll call out sick. I might have to bring the 12A to DGRR, but I might be able to pull it this week.

Maybe the RGs are punishing me for not going to OGTA in a couple of years. Last time was right after I finished the Nikki turbo two or three years ago.

Yep that was that wintery evening spitting snow at the Taco Mac.

But I don't think the Rotary Gods are mad at you for that.

It's all this blasphemous talk about porches that's got them pissed off.

I'll dig out the S3 transmission and make some photos for you to look at.

Do you need anything else?

Just a tranny to get me to DGRR this year. I might make a mutant MX5 tranny with mine or just rebuild it.

Your mind is in the gutter Tim.

+2 from the Rotary Gods on that.

So are you going to Guide a Carolina Contingency down to the April 2 OGTA Meeting next week?

First Daylight Meeting of the year, Rotaries Galore are going to be there, even the LE.

I hear Holly might even show up.

Politically correct is how I always think of you Ray.

Wish I could make it but thats the same night as my beer brewing club meeting. I'll have to pass so I can drink other folks home brew.

Make sure to post up the pics when the dust settles.
