A friend of mine went to the C&O show in early September and sent me a few pics of a beautiful, totaling stock FB that was that light blue color that was so popular back then.

I’m sure this might not be new to you guys but I just discovered Bring A Trailer. Talk about the ultimate throne sitting past time... love that site. Shocking to see the last second winning bids. There are some extremely odd and unusual offerings. My favorite car of all time just sold today.. a gorgeous 84 Porsche 911 Black with whale tail.. 52k miles near perfect condition still fetches $80k!! Ferdinand!! What a dude!!

LOVE a 911.. doesn't really matter the year to me.

But a while back I came to the conclusion I'd never own one. The cost and pain of finding parts is too much to drive it and put miles on it like it should. That's why I opted to re-fit my VW as apposed to finding a 912 or 911. I can drive my VW all around, rack up miles, and find parts EVERYWHERE.

The 7 is the same way. I LOVE FD's, they are absolutely gorgeous. BUT finding parts and keeping them running is not acceptable IMPO. Not my FB, I can drive the wheels off of my FB and find parts (or make them) and keep on keeping on.

So I guess I will keep driving my VW and FB and look at your pretty FD and 911.

That 911 cost $80,000:

My LE cost $700:

Old guys with 12As club meeting-searpjw.jpg

And the LE is prettier, sexier and way more fun to drive.

So people who own 911s should sell there cars, buy an FB and donate the difference to the Children's Fund.

Not totally fair to state $700.00 only.. I know you must have a lot of dough wrapped up in getting it to the state it’s in now. But, I’m sure no where near $80,000.00 either. The point I was trying to make is that Porsche 911 (in any year I agree) is IMHO the single finest production sports car ever produced. Lots of room for argument I’m sure. Back in “the day” (88) I raced a 86 944 Turbo S. It was me and my 84 five letter with Headers-stock flat out for two miles. My car cost me used $7500.00 His? Probably around $32k I’m guessing.. I did not beat him... he did not beat me.. at about 132 mph mine was topped out.. so was his or so it seemed.. we nodded gratuitously at each other and he went right I went straight.. no blood.. but I felt extremely vindicated that his pig of a turbo Porsche w 2.5 liters couldn’t beat my 1.3 N/a.. that was the moment I knew FB SE was it for me. With that 7 (my second of 3) I raced an 85 Celica Supra (several times), a 924 Porsche (ate his lunch) a Ford Mustang 5.0 street race (he had the low end I had the top end but I beat him at the big turn).. any others including a 2:30 am three mile curvy street race thru the west side of Akron against a 85 Fiero GT.. as Tyson once said.. made him my ”gewlfrend”.. all I know is I might as well have been in a Black 911 Porsche because it sure felt like that kind of performance.. if I had $80k sitting around I didn’t know what to do with I’d have bought that 911. But right now I gotta pretty damn special award winning black Fuel injected five letter sitting in my garage staring at me every morning I go to work.. and it’s one damn fine tingle in my right foot every time I pass it. I just hit 125k and I swear she runs as good as the day she was new. Not gonna get that kinda long life stock outta no 911 Porsche without a lot of maintenance. For that reason and the shear beauty of Any SA or FB.. I’d say our cheap little rice grinders do AOK and we gotta win at LE Mans to prove it.

Never had an air cooled Porsche, but if it drives anything like a VW its a hoot and a half. You don't know whether you are going to understeer or over, so you just sling the crap out of it and go for the oversteer .

I can say the newer liquid cooled Porsches handle like absolutely nothing else I have experienced. And I've been on some really nice roller coasters at six flags. You can stick a 986 into a turn and dial in your oversteer so accurately that even I look like I know what I'm doing. They just pull your face off with their handling ability.
If only a 986 had more power... like an LS (that's my next project)

You guys are going to anger the Rotary Gods with all this sacrilegious blabber about porches, better be careful.

This one is tempting. Very tempting:

Iksnay on the Radleybay.. especially with that corvair engine. I remember these kit cars well from the early 70’s. Usually a VW chassis with a 1.6 Vdub air cooled engine. Flat six corvair added a few ponies but the Vdub engine far more reliable. I gues this might have some minor collectibility to it but starting at $2500? That’s a bit much. A novelty at best. To each his own.. obtw ray you’ll notice no lightning strikes from the Rotary gods since I was referring to “porches” in context with getting there clocks cleaned by me and my second SE. they’re smiling for sure!

The Corvair engine is out of the car but comes with it.

Floorboards on the VW frame are rusted out but I'll bet James has a spare VW body sitting in his back yard.

I'll bet he snatches it up.

Paul, I see there are a bunch of thunderstorms heading your way, you best stay inside away from metal plumbing.

Kit cars are awful. Its like a tranny... damn that looks HOT then you pull up the skirt and its a VW and you're like UGH and vomit. Then they get old and its just a balding old dude in drag that has parts you can't replace because the kit company is out of business.

All that being said and I've thought about buying a kit 356

Of course if you're going to have a tranny living in your garage you might want it to have a BIG member. AKA a peripheral port 12A

That's all you Ray... get a 12A built and ride. I'll make the ac lines so you can use a sanden or gslse ac compressor.

I'd like to take it on James, it's a project I'd enjoy and could handle easily.

I owned VW bugs throughout the 1970's and I've driven them across the country from Boston to San Diego.

A tan 1969 bug was my daily driver back when I lived in Tuscon in the early '70's, we used to take it up on Mount Lemon for some weekend Recreation.

And one time we had to drop the engine on a 1965 Microbus in the middle of the Sonoran Desert, that was interesting.

But I'd better stay away from that Baby Blue one, I can't remember which end is the front on those Ghias.
