Hard to tell by this map but I think it's okay, this map was updated this morning: InciWeb the Incident Information System: Ferebee Fire Large Map

I think I read something about it being mostly controlled in that area.

Does anybody have a passenger side front fender for an FD for sale? A weed eater fell on mine.

Got you covered for an FB Martin, but not the FD, sorry.

Thanks for the map Brett, it looks like there are fires all over the place! Hard to tell where the cabins we've use are but I hope they are safe.

New 1st-Gen RX-7 Owner

Hello All,

My name is Max and I am the new owner of a very nice, stock 1979 RX-7 GS in "Sunrise Red". I recently purchased the car from its original owner in New Mexico.

I have heard that the OGTA group is the one to know for first-gen owners in GA. I have also been informed that the meetings are usually the first Tuesday evening (6-7:30) of each month at the Taco Mac at the Mall of Georgia. I wanted to confirm that and also see if people were planning to go on either Dec. 6th or Jan 3rd?

Feel free to let me know! I am looking forward to meeting the group and learning more about the world of SA/FB RX-7s.

Thanks!

Per request, here is my '79. For the record, I just installed a mirror from an '80 for the passenger side this evening.

That missing side piece is still available. Mazdatrix has it:

Thanks. Here are some answers to the questions so far:

-Paint is mostly original. I believe the front fenders were repaired/replaced in the early eighties and were repainted at that time. Otherwise it is original and in very good shape.

-In terms of '79s, I do not believe this is an early car. Based on the VIN, I assume the car was built in 1979 as opposed to 1978. Also, the hood prop is on the driver's side of the vehicle, which may be the key indicator as you alluded to.

-Thanks for the heads-up on the side trim; I will be sure to check it out. I have several items on my to-do list for the car. In terms of parts/trim, I need to find acceptable replacements for weather-stripping (particularly on the doors) and suspension bushings. Having lived most of its life in New Mexico, the rubber components are in need of replacing.

-I can post some engine pics, I just need to take some better-quality ones. However, I can say the engine is all stock and original. I don't believe the engine itself has ever been opened or tampered with. The carburetor was adjusted by a professional in 2010. I had a dealer perform a compression check before purchasing the vehicle, and it registered around 100 psi for all chambers on both rotors. There is a slight misfire that I need to address as well. Plug wires are in good condition, but the plugs themselves may be in the neighborhood of 10 years or older. One of the coils may need a replacement as well. If it's not one of those, it may be a points-related issue. With that said, she still runs great. Smooth and comfortable throughout the rev range (even to the buzzer, which works too).

-Interior pics I can get as well. Mostly original interior, and with the exception of a few items in very good condition. Interior is black, and seats are black and gray. The seats were reupholstered, but they are in the original color scheme to my knowledge.

-Additional note in relation to the interior, the car has its original radio AND a working antenna, which seems to be somewhat of a rarity.

I'll get those pics up sometime soon. Thanks for the comments and feel free to provide any advice to this new rotary owner.

The three major sources for parts for our cars is Mazdatrix, Black Dragon and Mazda still has some parts as well. Mazdatrix carries more items, much of it is OE, but is a little pricey and the shipping seems a little high. Black Dragon has carried many aftermarket replacement parts, but they are going out of business next month. They are cutting their prices on many items so you should check to see if they have anything you need. I checked on the door weather stripping and they have sold out.

On the misfire I agree the a good tune-up should help. One of the knocks on the 79 is the points style ignition, many people upgrade to the FB electronic setup, easy to do and works really well with minimum maintenance, I have done this to my car that is not stock, but I have another that is stock and original so I prefer to keep the points on it. Its not really not that much trouble, I have stocked up on points and to meet future needs just in case they become not available. You may want to get one of these, it helps:

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/a...FRYvgQodpygJRg .

It is good that you still have the original radio, most of the radio faceplates have been mutilated, if yours is uncut that is great!!

Also the working radio is a big plus, the Clarion units are very expensive to get repaired as they were not designed to be serviced, they were built to be thrown away and replaced in stead. I recently paid big buck to have mine reworked and the guy said he would never do another, major head ache!!

On your seats, the grey inserts were more common on the later cars, less so on the 79s, so it may not be the original color, my guess is the "red dot" inserts, seems that most of the red cars come with them, but maybe this was on the earlier 79s.

I love your car, seems sunrise red ones are not quite so common.

Very nice looking SA Max, you got a good one!

Here's another on on the local craigslist in case you are looking for a parts car or a pair of bookends:

Thanks for the tips so far guys. I went ahead and purchased some rear hatch struts and manual regulators from Black Dragon (regulators just in case, but the struts I currently have do need replacing). I also went ahead and purchased a set of door seals from RockAuto. Mine desperately need replacement. Hope to start looking into the misfire issue soon. Bushings will probably be next. Tires soon too.

I have yet to convince myself to buy that trim piece on Mazdatrix... given a few days I may come around.

Also thanks for the heads-up on that car Ray. I am not sure I have a location to accommodate another vehicle right now, but I will keep it in mind.

OK OGTAs, I need your help. Here's one I'd never seen before.

I found this on ebay a few days ago, it arrived today. $29 plus $12.94 shipping = $41.94 total, not bad!

It looks to be an S1 or S2 (1979-1983) leather covered 4 spoke steering wheel, which are common enough.

(I already have one in black leather, although most of the S1/S2 4 spokes I've seen don't have the leather covering).

But this one has BROWN leather! (and it's in great shape for an original leather covered S1/S2 wheel)

Here's an ebay pic, followed by three more I took today:

ebay:

today:

Size: 285.3 KB

Name: 20161202_161723_zpsuhi9nzyv.jpg
Views: 97
Size: 241.6 KB

Name: 20161202_161810_zpslkkjlqxh.jpg
Views: 95
Size: 236.2 KB

Has anyone every seen one of these before or know which model SA or FB they came in?

Is it possible it started life as dark red?
My second '79 car has dark red or maroon interior and many of the pieces have faded to brown.

However, cant say I have ever seen any leather wheels any color but black.

Jealous you found it, at $29.00 no less, well bought!!

The leather sport cars came with brown leather seats, so its probably from a S1 LS

I don't think it was ever red, there isn't a trace of red on it and it really does look like natural brown leather.

Being from an S1 "Leather Sports" would explain why it's so rare, not many S1 LS's to begin with and not many of those would have surviving leather covered steering wheels.

This thing must be worth a fortune to someone with a minty brown leather S1 LS.

Does anyone have any interior photos of the leather interior S1 LS's?

Here are a couple:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/sharif...th/7236485080/

After looking at these pics it looks certain that you have a 80 LS steering wheel.

and in such good condition. A Rare bird indeed.

There is a LS registry that may be a good customer list.
