Old guys with 12As club meeting
Now you have to pay a "Title Tax" to get a title. It is replacing the ad valorem tax and sales tax on all vehicle sales (private party and dealer) starting this year. They gave a choice to opt in to this for those people that bought a vehicle last year. For the vehicles we already own, we will have to continue to pay the ad valorem and tag fee, but for a new purchase-each year you will only need to pay the $20 tag fee.
Hmmm. This title conversation is interesting. I am curious to see how this comes out. I bought the Blue One with just a BOS.
BTW, I got a sneak peak of Billy's REPU this weekend. Looks really good, but probably not going to make the July OGTA.
So who is planning to be at the meet next week? Tommie, I won't let you down this time. I will be there.

Here's what I learned at the Registry today:
1) To get a title, there needs to be a title. So unless a title exists for the RX-4 that can be legally transferred, that's not going to happen.
2) South Carolina should respect Georgia's law on not requiring a title for cars over 25 years old. Presumably what this means is that as long as the person who registers the car in S.C. can establish clear ownership of the car, there shouldn't be a problem.
3) In order to qualify for the new Georgia law on exemption from annual valorem taxes you need a bill of sale or title dated 2012 or thereafter, for which you must have paid the state sales tax (the "Title Tax").

It seems that I went for a short drive with the vacuum line to my air control valve disconnected. Yes, I still have my EPA equipment. By the time I got back from the hardware store the car was very badly. I pulled the spark plugs and they were wet and loaded up. I replaced the plugs and the car ran better except when I put it in gear or turned on the AC. Would running the car without this vacuum line connected cause this or is there something else going on? Could this have fouled something else up like the catalytic converter? I hate to start taking the exhaust system apart without first getting a better Idea of what is going on. Any suggestions?
No need for the tutorial Mike, y'all can just sign your BOS's and titles over to me and I'll take it from there.
Greg you know that mechanics cost money, right?
And taking out the cats is both fun and easy, right?
And you can sell the cats for $175 profit, ditto?
And your gas mileage will go up, you'll lose weight, you'll get more power and you can rule out the cats as a potential present and future problem.
Plus you can then ditch the air pump and air control valve to lose more weight, simplify the engine bay and eliminate these as potential problems.
On the vacuum lines, a visual inspection followed by a thorough leak test using starter fluid is a good quick and easy way to check things out. There is also a whole chapter in the FSM on how to systematically go through and check each component of the emissions which isn't that hard to follow and kind of fun for geeky folks like us.

I'll try to start pulling the cats this weekend to inspect them. Where is this "FSM" Chapter you speak of?
John Grise set my carb up back in 2007 when he was still working at Sutherland Mazda. He would be good to talk to about this. He will probably confirm what you say.
Love to draw him into the club.

And what is the FSM (Factory Service Manual)? If so, is the Haynes manual good enough equivalent?
Also, anybody have or know where a RB header and down pipe that goes in place of the cats might be available used? I'm also about to buy 4 new rotors, calipers, and pads unless someone wants to dump some nice used examples for some cash, or trade for parts. I can pretty easily transfer parts via Tray or Tim to get them to the southern connections. (They can both be bribed/paid in craft beer
or homemade chicken and dumplings - as in the case of Tray) I'm wanting to upgrade from OEM brakes and suspension. GSL axle is on garage floor in the attached pic. Bye-bye GS drum setup, and hopefully bye-bye brake fade when I'm doing anything other than Sunday driving on the backroads around here. Any particular advice on aftermarket suspension bushings, shocks, springs, front struts, etc.? A helpful thread?
Here's the cat link Aaron, I believe it's your uncle Matt Brown who lives up in Massachusetts:
https://www.rx7club.com/se-sale-want...erters-958819/
Greg Sutherland Mazda went out of business a couple years ago, now it's opened under new ownership as Ivory Mazda, which also went out of business. It may have reopened again as Mall of Georgia Mazda:
MALL OF GEORGIA MAZDA Dealer, BUFORD - GEORGIA Mazda Dealership | Mazda USA
Anybody's guess whether John Grise still works there, but if not they may know how to get in touch with him.
Aaron, looking good, moving on up to GSL. FSM is Factory Service Manual, there are electronic versions available on the RX7club forum someplace and you can find paper copies on ebay from time to time reasonably priced around $25.

Aaron, for what it is worth, I like my set up. Eibach Prokit springs, Tokico Blue shocks and struts, and Energy Suspension poly bushings. The Eibachs are hard to come by anymore, but there are other progressive springs out there that may work. This is all plug and play stuff. If you want to get more exotic, Robert has about re-engineered the FB suspension and steering - the sky is the limit.
Gee Ray, that all sounds great!
Who do I sell the old cats to? Send contact info.
If the first and second cats are clogged I may be able to sell them too?
I will need some pipes to get from the engine to the muffler? Lets see headers, or just something to connect the muffler to the reactor box? I've got to deal with that Automatic Transmission vacuum link too. I'd like to have a set of them pipes like you got Ray. who is it that sells those? I remember they had a set of pipes for cars with automatics.
Hey can I have flames shooting out the back like all the big kids?!!

Greg here's the link for the guy who buys the cats (from two posts above if the following doesn't link). Doesn't matter if they are clogged as long as most of the honeycomb is still there. The small cats are actually worth as much or more than the big cat:

The pipe you got from Mike should work to go from the stock header to the cat back system, but best to check with Mike on that.

Greg, I did not remember who I gave the cat replacement pipe to. It won't work with the stock manifold. You have to put a 12A header on your car and that pipe will fill the gap from the 12A header to the tailpipe. I can't remember for sure, but I think that cat replacement pipe had a flange on it you might be able to use for your AT.
Here is the header you need. This is one for an AT car. It could be that it has a flange on it but the length is the same. You'll have to verify the length of the AT header and non-AT header are the same.
Cart Price Check Part:16014
I see non-AT 12A headers come up for sale pretty often on this forum. If there is a flange on the cat replacement pipe, you could use one of these. Need to check and make sure there is not a fitment issue with the tranny.

Thanks for the info Mike. I am looking for bolt and play. Nothing crazy yet. Is it possible that the front suspension is "taller" (spring rates higher? Worn out?) on my 85 GS than the front on the 84 GSL? I'm assuming the geometry is the same.
Also, I've read mixed opinions on going full poly. Especially on the rear. I read on PB&J Racing site about drilling the poly bushings to allow a bit more movement.

Aaron if that Matt Brown guy who buys the cats for recycling hasn't contacted you yet you may want to send him a PM, he may not check the SE for sale section very often (he has that same wanted to buy ad on several other of the regional sale sections).

Greg, Not sure of your year, but RB is closing out their pipe for 84-85 with A/T.
I had one of these for my 83 M/T and it worked great.

Cat Replacement Pipe
84-85 RX-7 12A Auto *
Instruction Manual CLOSE OUT! - Catalytic Converter Replacement Pipe - 1984-85 RX-7 12A (w/Automatic Transmission) - As a result of our testing of catalytic converter equipped RX-7s, we offer an economical alternative to headers - simply replace the catalytic converter with a 2" OD (3/16" wall) straight pipe. The power increase is significant - typically about 2/3 of the horsepower gain that a header will offer. While the noise level is higher than stock, it is possible to change from the stock muffler to the Power Pulse RX-7 muffler for an additional power increase combined with a lower, more mellow exhaust note.
These kits include instructions, hardware, and where necessary, an emission control passage cover plate. In all models, the pipe replaces all of the catalytic converters. Gaskets are not included, but are available separately. (See Gasket section)
If you're looking for a cat replacement pipe for the MT application, sorry, due to lack of demand we no longer offer this version.
