Old guys with 12As club meeting
That is one SWEET SA! :-)
Pics coming at the end of the week (when my rats nest is done, ran out of tubing)
- AC Compressor and assembly yanked out. That sucker was heavy. Hose hasn't been very cooperative and I'm beginning to think of cutting it. I don't want to because they are good, but... they're beginning to irk me in a very serious manner.
- Airpump belt off, L220 belt on. The fan clutch on the engine isn't working - it seems to be stuck on. That might suck during winter a bit, but I am planning to eventually go with an electric fan.
- Air pump top bolt seems seized. Playing with it now and then whenever I'm under the hood to try to get it off, spraying it with PB, repeat as necessary.
- Rats nest - removed, cleaned, sanded, painted silver. Most blue silicon on already, awaiting some more (end of the week, thus pics).
- Got aluminium for an airbox assembly in front of the radiator. Figuring out dimensions.
- new ignition coils about to go in. The stock Diamonds were priced higher than MSDs so... MSD won. Yes, I got the 8222s (High vibration, mounts horizontally). Will check to make sure the ballast resistor is inline before I go off doing bad things (tm). For those wondering, I got new coils because I have a feeling that they're bad and because the originals are almost 30 years old.
Any thoughts on the ignition coils? Everything I've read on the forums about plug 'n' play has been kind of "Buy coils, ___?????, Zoom Zoom" which doesn't instill me with all that much confidence.

Taran the best coil arrangement is to go direct fire with the 2GDFI upgrade, about $25 and an hour install time. Looks cool, works great.
Holly, I have two FB accounts but I don't know how to use either one. Can I go as Marco's other girlfriend?
Speaking of social activities, you dudes all have the September OGTA meeting marked on your calendars, right?

Don't worry, I'll weed through all the stuff and find something that makes sense. The info on whether the ballast resistor is necessary for a points system is still something I'm trying to find out.
Taran, ignore the professor.
Try the link in my sig for TFIDFIS. Get parts for dirt cheap from the JY off of Ford 150s and GM
cars, some wiring and your done. Maybe a relay if your being fancy. Don't even need the trailing
anymore either.

Michael, it will be good to see you, I want to quiz you about that old school ported 13B you've got in the FB, I'm thinking that might be a good way to go with 12A housing getting so precious.
Taran, Tim is absolutely right about ignoring professors. These days, the Truth will only get you in Trouble. Better to hit the junk yard and buy American parts.
In these conservative times, listening to professors and scientists can only make you think, which is bad for you.
Better to listen to Congress, they know everything you should know. Todd Akin, for example, he sits on the House Committee for Science, Space and Technology.
Now that guy knows everything you need to know about women, rape, fertilization and sex. My PhD in developmental biology withers in comparison.
Also, the TFIDFIS just looks way cool:

Tim, Ray -
While I appreciate the candor and clamor of the positions related to ignition, I must tell you that I resolved my issue and found out that, verily, I didn't need a ballast resistor when installing the MSD 8222s. They're in and there's a marked improvement which substantiated my own educated guess regarding the status of the 29-30 year old stock coils.

I really do find the alternate ignition systems interesting- I do have an electronics and electrical background - and I promise I will look into them more when I have the time. Once the seafoam has run through the tank and rats nest hose is completely done in 3.5 mm vs. the 4 mm remnants, I'll then be more confident about the high idle issue that has plagued me. This is the core of what I'm doing at this point: Finding out what, exactly, is wrong. As I do more and more I expect the problem may actually be the tachometer though there are some odd things that happen while driving and stopping which indicate other issues. Doing an updated ignition system might mask more issues as I troubleshoot it so I've opted out and will let you discuss the merits of the varying systems between you.
Thanks, though. I've got a whole bunch of links I've saved for when I write a lot of this up so that it doesn't become a bunch of dead links - something already happening with SA's and FBs.
That said, here's a few videos from Trinidad and Tobago - it ends up the car in the video might be a car I drove when I was growing up (13B back then) - in T&T, the license plate doesn't change when you sell the car and I *think* it's the same one. It now is a 20B beast.
Wish my Uncle hadn't sold it.

Yeah Crit, but wait for the REPU. It will be a proud day.
Ray, that was great rant a couple of posts up. If that is any indication of what you have in store for us, I think this is going to be a great election year.

Beautiful RX-2 Crit! too bad it did not stay in the OGTA family.
Billy,
What was the name of that tool you were telling me about at Downing Atlanta? I cant remember the name of it.

Here is a picture of how they are used to hold panels in place:

Looks like summit has sets for around $15 and pliers for $9

That RX2 turned out nice, I like the black paint stripe on the rear, neato.
Even though it's nowhere comparable to Crits old RX2, my old red 12A popped up on craigslist today in Gainesville. I wonder how it has 220K on it when I sold it with 230K?

Can anyone here answer my questions in this thread? https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generati...stion-1009469/
I figured it was a simple question for rotary guys but no reply yet. lol

Hi Simon, I offered my two bits on your block off thread, but wait a few minutes I'm sure there will be more words of wisdom on this.

However, I'm having to think about Ray's admonition not to think.
Not sure why Ray's video made me think of this, but here it is.

It's hard to legally transport more than one child in Virginia in an FB.

I got a chance to work on the FC this weekend and have a nice, tight driveshaft now. I believe one of the motor mounts may be broken, though, there is still a little bit of a vibration sometimes. Maybe I'll look into it later...
Anywho, I should be at the meet next week. I'll have your alternator, Kristy. Anyone else need any FC parts? Coils? Rubber strut tower covers?
