Pulled dizzy and moved it a quarter of a turn. Then it fired right up! I guess when I put the pully back on, I put it on wrong. So the TDC wasn't TDC after all...lol Anyway it lives! Just needs to be tuned on a little. Should be fine till the big motor goes in. Thx! 12A's really don't die. They only get better!

So the Ray that WAS at the last OGTA meet (This kid I work with who is actually named Ray) had his autotragic transmission seize up on him and is looking for a 5 speed car for under a grand(he is a gearhead so it has to be something at least a little cool). So if anyone sees any good deals on Rx-7s or anything cool like that, post them up.

So I'm pretty set on what I'm going to do, but I still would like an opinion or two from some older and more mature people.

I'm speaking with a guy about trading my Maxima flat out for an 87 RX7.

It is the same color as my current RX7, 9/10 paint, 147K on the clock with a 40K mile reman engine (he has the paperwork). He is the 2nd owner. It has no body damage, a full Racing Beat Road-race exhaust that's about a year old (with receipts), a LSD, new clutch and a lot of other random things, and a pretty clean interior. All work has been done by a good shop (all receipts again), it's been well maintained, and I think the two cars are worth the same. Keep in mind that the Maxima has 240K miles and the wrecked front end.

So my question is, would it be a fair trade or am I being stupid?

And if you're wondering why I'm not happy with the FC I have now, it's a long story... Everything is breaking, the electrical system is crazy, the frame is bent, the car needs a full alignment with new bushings all around, I've broken down twice in the past month, the body needs work, the paint is shot, and it's got nearly 300K on the chassis.

I plan to get this new(er) FC, swap my goodies onto it, sell my current FC, and get a beater 2nd car with more than 2 seats.

Give me some elderly insight as to what you think the smartest choice would be.

Brett, your frame is not bent. You don't technically have a frame, you have a unibody. I think what you're talking about are the hollow floor-pan support rails that frequently get crushed and dented.

 

Wanda damn nearly burned to the ground the other morning on my way to work.

The wiring harness that runs in through the driver's side firewall under the clutch master somehow shorted and melted a few things together, thus filling my cabin with smoke and charring some surround wiring and fiber insulation.

Unfortunately, it looks like I'll have to yank the dash out of the car to get to the harness and pull it out either direction from the firewall so I can repair the damage.

Ideas would be helpful. :\

 

Brett, I'm with Holly on the new 2G. Seems like a good opportunity. Just be sure you have some other transportation in case you have to sort anyting out with the new one. You don't want to get yourself stranded and not be able to get to school, work, etc.

The professor would be more interested if you were were considering 1G.

Heys been a while I've been driving a 12A around for a bit. Im at work now the ran a little choppy on the way in my question is what direction does the mixture screw turn to enrich is it clockwise or counterclockwise. I'm at work and have limited internet so most searches are out of the question and its a stock Nikki carb.

I know with the dell counterclockwise was richer and clockwise was leaner. Makes sense too cause 99.9% of threads are right handed threads so the screw goes down as it turns clockwise and thus closes off the fuel passage and leans it out. Nikkis could be left hand threaded though but I doubt it.

 

 

Serious. That is what I thought, when I looked at the car. No way should a stock vehicle with no aerodynamics being going that fast. I can't believe it made it to 240mph.

 

Well the second restoration has begun on the FB! I have stripped nearly everything out of the enginebay again this afternoon. I have the firewall lines and master cylinders to remove later tonight. Then the engine/trans tomorrow when I dig the hoist out.

next step will be stripping the paint off and starting over again fresh!!. Lots of work ahead, but I have grown tired of looking at the charred remains Pics will be taken and shared when time permits.
