Could'a bought a nice FB for that!

Is that the control box that makes FC's work? I don't think FB's have those, maybe that's why they're relatively inexpensive?

Kinda sorta, Figured out a few things. 1) Rotors are completely trashed now. they barely got hit at TGPR actually and I tried to "stretch " them. Well they have been stretched

2) Upgraded to a proper brake fluid( Superblue FTW)

3) I was braking in the absolute wrong manner for the track. I started to be consitent on getting on them hard to there limit and then get off them. THAT helped the most. I could make it to the last lap of my session before I would lose my pedal.

So, Thanks to Holly and Ray for comforting me in my time of tool withdrawl. I miss my power bleeder. I'll be back in December for a rematch with RA.

Sorry to miss you over there Dave, I spent another weekend with the Silver One. Hope you made it back home OK without the brakes.

The Silver One is Back, better than ever. I finally got all those carb details straightened out.

Thats good and bad Ray. Good you got it working, bad its not a Del Horto

At least we know you've got a lot of practice rebuilding nikkis now. I bet you
can do them in your sleep.

Yep I know Nikki's really well right about now. I actually priced a Del Horto out at one point, but with a $1000 price tag (not including an intake manifold) it's just not an option. Looks like I'll be driving Nikki's for another 20 years at least.

I just re-bled the brakes a couple times with the help of Brent( Memphisrains82) and a few other members of the Ga. Rx8 club. There was a great group of guys from that crew there and I made new friends,..with big Rv's to stay in on hot days.

I told them of the OGTA meets and the location and times of th emeets. Hopefully Billy and Holly will get plenty of support from them.

It must have been gold plated. It only cost ~$600.00 when new and that included
the intake manifold.

No matter, you've got your nikkis all in a row now and ready for service when you
need em.

Is the Varsity meet a regularly scheduled event? What is the day and time?

It looks like it could be worth going to to, if the day and time work out.

The varsity is atlantas biggest monthly meet. It's the first Thursday of the month. It used to lay from like 8 to 12 but now it's so popular if you want a parking space you have to show up at 5.

Well guys, here's an update...

I got to Vermont the other day just fine... Except for the fact that somewhere in PA my gas tank started to leak pretty bad. I didn't think much of the gas smell when we stopped in Mechanicsburg at the hotel because I've had gas issues before, particularly the lack of a seal where the fuel pump meets the tank. This was solved by using a good bit of RTV to make my own gasket. I shrugged off the fuel smell thinking it was just time for a new RTV gasket.
Stopping for gas when we entered New York, I was coming out of the convenience store and could see a puddle under the back of my car. As I neared the car, I knew I had a bigger problem - it was dripping. Unfortunately for me, there was nothing I could really do about the problem... and we continued to drive until we got to our new Town House. Gas leaking away, I drove to wal-mart and bought a 15 quart oil pan (Since I left the one my brother cracked in GA), two five-gallon gas cans, and a few funnels. When I got back, I removed the fuel tank drain bolt and emptied it.

You know, most people would have gotten lucky... An old rubber fuel line, or the fuel filler neck. But not me! The gas is leaking soley from the underside of the tank, appearing to originate underneath the passenger side fuel tank strap. Some rubber undercoating had begun to peel away, so I grabbed my screw driver and scraped some of it off... rust. It just looks like surface rust with the undercoating that peeled away, but I bet if I were to drop the tank and remove that strap, I'd find a rust hole. The sides of the tank are completely dry... as I said, it appears that the leak is coming from underneath the strap. Why does this make sense? Poorly maintained interstates. I started smelling gas at a point in the trip where the roads were royally shitty.. and with my suspension, at speed, it was a rough *** ride. My theory is that the tank had simply rusted from age, and the weight of the tank (Full of gas) over the rough roads put higher loads on the area of the tank where the straps keep it in the car...therefore the metal gave way.

That's just my theory anyway...

I've been trying to find a tank locally, or at least semi-locally.. but Vermont is not like Georgia. There are no people who hoard FC parts.. Hell, there aren't any people with FC's really. lol I still need to call a few more salvage yards, but I can bet you they'll turn up nothing. Car-Part shows a few gas tanks within 200miles of me... but I'd rather not drive that far.

Someone up here also mentioned to me that they had the inside of their range rover's gas tank epoxy coated to solve their rusted tank problems.... but they haven't gotten back to me about who did it, or a phone number.

For ***** and giggles, I have the car up for sale.

As for Vermont.. I love it still. I'm happy to be back, even though I miss you guys! A friend of mine took me to dinner last night, and we watched a few movies and I stayed over at his place. I'm trying to get with my car friends up here, but they all work like mad men.

I start at my new store on the 16th.. I went there yesterday. They just had a retrofit, and the store design is amazing. You walk in the front doors, and the way the layout is, it makes the customer feel as if they're practically behind the counter, a part of the action. It's a strange feeling, but I think it'll be cool.

*MY* new garage! It's actually pretty big. I tried to get the angles with the camera right to show the size of the space, but I couldn't.. plus I had to back the car into the garage just on the starter and I didn't want to toast my starter or my battery by ******* with the angle of attack.

You walk in the garage, and there's a nook to your right, followed by an open hallway sort of thing. There's a door that goes upstairs, and behind the garage is a large storage room that my mom put all of her extra furniture and antiques and crap in so it wouldn't enroach on my garage space.

Let me put it to you this way...

You could first get a Miata parked in the garage off to the side where you can't really see... and then pull the RX-7 in the larger part of the garage... and it'd fit well enough.

"Vermont is not like Georgia"

Now that is one heck of an understatement.

Good to see Wanda (and you) safe and sound up there Collin! Maybe you can start a Vermont Chapter of Virtual OGTA?

Is that a dusting of snow on the ground in your garage space?

Collin, be careful before you go running off to a junk yard for a gas tank. Many yards, Pull-a-part included, pierce all gas tanks when they're taking the cars in so that they're nearly guaranteed to be completely drained of gas by the time they go out to the yard. Too many idiots sneaking torches in to allow gas to be on-premises. Call ahead and ask. Who knows, if they do pierce the tanks, maybe they'll be willing to pull one for you and set it aside on the next FC.

I remember that I had asked the guy at 'U Wrench It' next to PAP north about a tank for Collin a while back and he gave me the same response. Hopefully Collin can find one soon.

You can always have the puncture welded shut. Worst case, thats still better than a new unit. time for a quick fill fuel cell!!
