Old guys with 12As club meeting
9/7 OGTA Meeting
I am bringing my 2nd gen BUT I am always bringing a co-worker out to the event and he has a nice first gen (83) GSL with a few issues. I told him how great you all are so please give him the benefit of your knowledge. Air is not working a few other little gremlins. Looking forward to seeing everyone again it has been far too long. Coming from work in Roswell so I expect if we head out early we should be there at 6ish.

I agree Collin, OGTA has lost its way since you went North. We could use some spiritual guidance right about now. I predict you will be back within the year.
And if you don't believe me, just wait till this winter. Just ask Kevin about those Yankee winters and rust bucket 7's. You need to live on High Street just to make it tolerable.
Speaking of which, I'm going premix. Anybody got any good reasons why not?

Because it is a pain in the *** to always think of if you have your oil before you go drive. Your fuel "sock" filter get gummy after a loong while.( depends alot on quality of pre-mix oil used)
I used to do it and just got sick of buying oil to put in my car when I filled up. So on that note it is an added cost for a benefit already provided by Mazda.
My 2 cents on pre-mix

buy a gallon of the stuff at wally world (the premix oil). it comes in a blue gallon jug for 10 bucks.
buy a funnel. measure the premix out to about 8oz with a cheap measuring cup, and pour in the premix to the line 8oz line.
put funnel in gas tank, pour the premix in the funnel, and and then throw the shut back in the storage bin, and fill the tank up. use a garbage bag to house the items.
the reason why premixing is soo much better is because the engine oil is not designed to be burned off where as the premix is designed to not only lubricate, but has detergents and stuff to help it burn off and burn off cleaner.
if you need help to remember, put a sticky note on the gas cap that says "hey dumbass, dont forget to premix".
I found some interesting things in the FC today when I swapped headlights. All of these were sitting beside the brake-cooler duct on the bottom inside of the front bumper (see the attachment). A broken oil cap, some plastic rectangle, and a pipe
Ray, if you did premix I wouldn't use more than 1/2 ounce of premix per gallon of gas. Like Dave said, your fuel sock can get dirty quick. I remember Collin and I talking a while back, and he was saying something about it mugging up the fuel sock. And I remember he used a pretty good brand, Valvoline I think?
I however premixed for a good year with a working OMP and recently replaced the fuel pump strainer on my old FC, and the old one seemed to look fine. It might of had a slight blue tint, but I didn't notice any real crud/gunk on there. I used around 1/4- 1/2 ounce of premix for every gallon depending on the situation.
And that reminds me... I need to decide if I'm going to premix a little bit myself on this new FC.

the other issue to debate is that my cars are all FI that I ran PM in. That said, The Primary function of the oil is for lubrication of the Apex seals. In the case of FI engines, when the lube is needed it may not always be there. This is the case with Decel, as the injectors are shut down. It's a small argument, and not mine
I am just flat out too lazy and won't shell out the extra coin anymore
All the engines I have ever torn down were OMP operated engines. None of them had excess carbon due to the engine oil. Usually crappy side seal clearence's.
To each there own, that's what makes life intresting.
Dave
You guys may get some extra Rx8's tonight. I have told the GaRx8 club guys that I met at the last NASA track day about the meets. Some have said they were going to check it out.
Uh oh, my car is dirty. I seem to wash my car just after an OGTA meeting,.
Dave, I will be shocked and amazed if any GA RX-8 Club people show up. They usually don't co-mingle with the other rotaries.

This can be debated to death and has been . In my case, I won't use Wally world oil . Just my choice. It was still a PITA to always make sure I had enough in the car.I never didn't have any, it was just an extra thing to remember. And I am an Old Guy.

fuel cut on decel is not an issue as for one.. no power is being produced and there is no load on the engine. its just spinning. the oil penetrates the chrome surfacing enough to where you can go for a pretty good bit before the oil burns off completely as the chrome is porous and soaks up a good bit of oil. no spark is produced, no fuel consumed, nothing. just a spinning engine and the seals are gliding happily over the chrome.
example, going to miami, i had to stop for gas a couple of times. on one fill up i did not put in any premix.
the engine runs fine and everything in the engine is fine.
to each his own, but in my opinion premixing is neither something to be scoffed at, but neither is the stock system to be ridiculed. for me premixing is not a big deal. so o well.
I was going to be coming down tonight but we got stuck at court for a trial that isn't going to happen anyways.( 300+ people on the court calander today) So I miss out. I was looking forward to a cold beer and a twisted bacon burger.
We'll miss you Dave! and will look for your RX-8 surrogates. I can box up and ship those wiring harnesses if you need them. I hope Project Fireball is coming along nicely, that one always was my favorite rotary of yours.
My issue with premixing is way more pragmatic than all that engineering stuff you guys are talking about. My OMP quit working, I don't know why and I don't need one more thing to do to fix it. So premixing is sounding pretty good right about now. As long as it works in an 84/85 Nikki fueled FB.

And I thought I was gonna make it tonight, since I managed to avoid jail this week. Ended up being at work until a time when people would be leaving, and have to go to chicago in a few hours. Poop.
