Two new vids:
First one titled: BMW VIR 3-03-07 skid pad. Goal is to keep the car in a continual state of oversteer (drift) while you circle the pad.

Second one is titled BMW VIR 3-02-07 Red R1 Debut. This is my new track toy The video is a little freaky because I think the tape is shot or I left the camera on night vision or something however I tossed it up there to keep a record of my track times Car was running 2.12 or 13s with old tires so it has lots of potential.

I'll divulge the 411 on my new toy along with some pics once I have it fully sorted and cleaned up.

Now for another storied FD weekend. Arrive Friday and drive for an hour or so before I start smelling oil combined with some load gear noise. Discover the diff is shot. Drain the oil and it looked like old coffee and smelled up the entire paddock. I don't know what's wrong with it but it can't be good.

The weekend is young so I decide to go back home and pick up my daily driver. Start out the day Saturday and things seem ok until I start loosing boost everytime at the top of the esses. Thought it was a check valve, solenoid or something. Switch some check valves and nothing works. Finally determine it's the primary turbo intake pipe collapsing and I'm fortunate enough to be instructing a buddy who also has an FD and an extra pipe. Put the pipe on and it's great for about a lap (actually overboosting a bit) and then it happens again............****. Apparently the aftermarket intake box is not designed to work with that pipe combined with a big *** T fitting for the boost controller that's
wedged in behind it, pushing against it and giving the pipe hell so it doesn't have a chance at working. Basically after a little heat and heavy load, meaning 4th gear type pulls the pipe collapses and I have no primary boost hence no secondary. A couple times I literally slowed to a crawl, threw it in first and would regain boost until another portion of the track called for a long pull in an upper gear. So if you ever have a similar boost issue it could be this pipe.

^^ this guy gets more free meals! Sorry I didn't get your pm till today. I wish I had been at VIR this past weekend- I was at Summit w/ PCA.

Dude, you think you have problems!! I'll give you a call tomorrow. I found out a little nasty problem w/ the rear suspension. My 993 has passive rear steering. The 1994 & 1995 cars can get into a mode where it suddenly tugs back & forth on you in a high speed corner. If that happens, you are in deep trouble. Porsche also found this problem during the testing during development of the 993 Turbo. They made "minor suspension geometry changes" in 1996. A 993 without kinematics (according to Porsche) would tend to go towards toe-out on the outside rear wheel in a corner, which makes it go loose, and also goes towards toe-in on the other rear wheel. So the passive steering does the opposite. It tries to make the outside rear wheel toe in, and the inside rear wheel to go toe out. That is a good idea, and it works.

The issue is that it can get irritated, and start to rapidly swing from out to in and back again repeatedly. That is exactly what happened!!! Rumor is if you let go of the steering wheel it may fix itself. Or not.

What does this mean? I almost **** myself this weekend! Rear end was ticking and tocking like a pendulum. Gonna cost about 3k to fix this little problem...yeah eating into my seat time.

BTW you need to buy a set of Michelin Pilot Sport cups

That sounds very scarey indeed

Hell with those cars you have enough to deal with when the rear end is working properly.

Hopefully you'll get it sorted out quickly and we can hook up at Summit or VIR

You're probably really missing wrenching on an FD so the next time you have some time and are in Ch'ville give me a call hehe

Nah, not her. She's just done one event at VIR that we both did last november with PCC Audi Club. Her RX8 is silver.

First off the boost trouble from my last event was not the intake it was the TCA........see link if interested: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...&highlight=owl

This past weekend was a HOOT in a different sense hehe.

I did the instructor class and felt out the new car a little more on Friday and Saturday I instructed along with doing the TT and finished 1st overall with a 2:08.2

Sunday during the practice session I pulled a 2:08.9 in heavy traffic driving on my own oil slick with the HOO HOOS on (Saturday session was on some older Hancooks) so I think I could of snapped off a 2:07 but my coolers cracked again and starting leaking. I actually lost all four quarts but fortunately didn't get any noticable amounts on the track and I think my engine is OK. Still starts and sounds OK but I guess I'll have to see how it does once she's competely up and running.

Once again I'll post the particulars about my new track toy asap along with some pics.

Vid is up and titled: NASA VIR F TT 3-31-07 I started out behind a MONSTER z06 with a 5 to 1 power ratio and thought I might be able to take advantage of some drafting but it wasn't to be.

Hey Fritz, do you know what times that Viper was running? On Saturday it looked like you were keeping up with him, but not gaining any ground.

And as usual, you make it look WAY too easy!

Sick. How much power are you making to (almost) hang with that z06 in the straights? Nothing like watching you haul a$$ around the track to make me all antsy to get out there myself and putt around with my stock power and street tires When is the next time you're instructing with nasa -- any chance to get a ridealong (assuming you even have a passenger seat)? Congrats on your win!

I'm guessing around 325 to 350 rwhp. The car has a t04e boosting 13 to 14 in 3rd and 4th but starts bleeding down at 5k to around 11psi however it will maintain 13 or 14 in 5th. Feels a lot slower than Brad's old car and the speedo indicates 10 mph slower and I'm not lifting. The Z was hitting close to 170 both front and back and I was going 155 back and 150 front.

Oh and the Z was heavily modded so with getting out of the corners and not lifting high 170s would not be unreasonable. I'm guessing that car has a 2 flat in it.

I love sharing the track experience with others so you're welcome to take a ride any time

I hope to instruct with NASA in July at VIR on the North course or possibly at Summit in June.

Sweet, i may just take you up on that! I usually grab ride-alongs with some of my other instructor friends just to get additional perspective on how their driving styles and techniques vary but none of them drive the same car as I do

I watched your Z06 vid, and actually started chuckling... so typical of cars like that, the guy spends half a lap in disbelief, and then the other half limping desperately for a straightaway to try and get away w/ horsepower. You ate him alive through the snake.

You can tell how stiffly your car is sprung, it turns in like a ****. Looks like you've got a good one.

PCA First Settlers is a great group. A couple of members came down to a PCA Citrus Instructor's event at Roebling Road.

Now we'll go beat up on some GT3s or maybe we'll just drive around with our left arm stuck out the window like a piece of wood lol

There will probably be some boys running 2:02s to 2:07s. Lucky Bastards driving my dream car really **** me off. Hopefully we'll get a chance to see some 997 gt3s.

My current car has some KICK *** coilovers. Tein race variety that I would highly recommend to anyone who likes to toss their baby in hard and drop the HAMMER Very stiff springs but the shocks are up to it so they work well together. I'm guessing about 1k front and rear. Probably the best setup I've used.

Right now my baby girl has her nose pointed at the heavens waiting on some new oil coolers. Yeppers I cracked both of them. So there goes 400.

I think I'll fab up some ducts cause right now there's no duct work and my oil temps are a good 20 degrees past my water temps. Upgrade the sway mounts, strip some interior out etc.....

Damn, I don't think I can wait almost 2 months Pete. We may have to hit a seat time or something hehe.

You're right these guys do a great job. However there are usually about 10 cup cars that show up so they'll be blowing by me like Linda Ronstadt.
