My FD build
I'm going with a mixed bag of parts to achieve the look I want while complimenting the stock lines. I'll be doing a full write up on the parts and installation as things progress. The car will be different from anything else out there when I'm done.
You should do option 2 on lighting, but go with the Hella Bi-Xenon low and High unit.

Not bad, I was thinking of going with projectors also. I'll wait to see what kelvin range the Feed lights are so I can match the main ones. I like 7-8000k for their blue hues. On a side note, my custom mats are being shipped out tomorrow. Pics to come.
you sir are building a FD that many of us would wet ourselves at night about. very awsome build
IMO, R-magic lights seem to match the aggressive FEED bumper more than the RE-A. which you can already tell from looking at Rmagic bumper which look very similar to FEED. just a thought
i can't wait until ur turbos and bodykit are in. great job

I'm hoping to have some time to help Gary move things along on the build soon when I get weekends off from work. I work a backwards rotating shift and my days off change every third week when I get one day off instead of two. The crappy part is the three shifts change every week. I have to work graveyard starting tomorrow night for five nights. August should be a great time to get some stuff accomplished. I don't mind taking my time to work on the car, gives me a lot of time to think about what I want to put into it. Gary's cool with it, that helps. Keep the ideas coming, you guys are a big help.
I've been looking for a metallic shade of grey to compliment the lightest shade of carbon fiber to paint the seven. Well, yesterday I saw it firsthand. Smokey granite mica, a Lexus color. It is close to black, then at the right angle-POW, the metallic grey shows up. Looks great in the sun. Here's some pics,
I got a better job today, quit my current one that I'd been at for the last 11 years. Now that I have a normal schedule, I'll get to spend more time with the family and car. I talked to Gary tonight, he was working on the car as we spoke. He removing the old turbo setup and making room to mock up the new manifold. Also the mats arrived today, I'll have some pics up shortly.
That's the plan, here's the pics of the custom mats. I'm impressed, the quality and customer service was great. Now, go to the group buy and get yourselves some. I'll even share the new logo.
Sticking with my need to be different, I put in an order for the Feed elbow instead of a common Greddy one. It's polished already so thats a plus. I'll have a Wiggins clamp welded to the end to attach to the piping supporting the 2 bov's. According to Feed, their throttle body intake elbow helps to better air flow by reducing turbulence. Now I'm thinking of sending out the throttle body to get the passages enlarged and have larger butterflies installed. Feed also offers this service. RHDJapan.com has them listed on their website. That's who I ordered the elbow thru. At HIN I got the chance to sit in some Bride Gias seats. I fit snugly and it wasn't too hard to get into, just exiting because of the high bolsters. So it looks like I'll get the stradias instead. I'll get some pics as things show up.
Recently moved up here to WA and found this thread tonight and read all the way through it. What a fantastic build, because you are building exactly what you want and not cutting corners. It will definitely be a car with part of you in it. Congratulations on the build so far, would love to see it in person some time.
Thanks, I've been an artist all my life. My car is another medium in which I express my need to create something beautiful. I try to put thought and soul into every detail while honoring the original designer's idea. The FD in stock form is aesthetically pleasing, but mass produced. Therefore it can be viewed as a wonderful platform to modify and showcase ones personality. Maybe I should sign my work when I consider it finished. (lol) I think that will never be the case as it's like my Japanese garden, constantly changing, as new technology emerges that I become aware of, like seasons. To earn a living, I've been working as an industrial plant mechanic. Now, I'm an elevator constructor apprentice. I'm hoping that being mechanically minded coupled with Gary's experience will produce one awesome machine. Show and go!
I just got a job with Otis Elevator, the oldest company in the industry. Now I work 4 ten hour days, mon-thurs. I was accepted into the apprenticeship program and couldn't be happier. Much better place to work for than what I did for the last ten years. I was a journey level electro-mechanic at my last job. I look back and consider it was a step up opportunity to get into what I'm doing now.
RhdJapan.com just added these to their site, so now I'm going to add them to my FD.
A perfect addition to the door handles. I'm headed out to Gary's today to hang out and tinker on the car. I'll get some pics of the mats installed. I'll have to remove the factory bose equipment to make room for the future sub enclosure and mat. I'm also thinking of adding some more silver carbon fiber in the hatch area to balance the interior.

I removed the Bose acoustic wave system and the factory mat from the hatch. Here's the new mat installed. It was a perfect fit and removal and installation only took a couple of minutes. I'm planning on cutting out the spare tire well for the fuel cell, so I'll need to fab up a cover to set the mat and sub enclosure on later.

Here's a comparison between the oem floor mats and the Jason Strous group buy grand touring mats. Note; the factory grommet on the driver's mat is smaller. The larger grommet is easier to set and remove. With the spiked backing, the mats stay put. The factory mats are of high quality but mine were due for retirement. Plus the new logo refreshes the interior.
Another comparison shot. Progress in the engine bay is slow going with Gary's workload this summer, but he says that we'll focus on getting the motor and turbo setup done this winter/spring. Our plan to have Daryl Drummond build the motor is still on, he builds race motors for Mazda and has quite the rep. Gary and I are sending out the turbos, motor and Microtech ecu together, so they can get dyno'd. A custom wiring harness is in the works. While that's going on, I'll be striping out the engine bay for a fresh smokey granite mica (sgm) paint job. The rest of the car wont be sprayed until I finish with the engine bay. I still need to get the rear bumper kit anyways, I should be ordering it in a week or two.
Here's Daryl drummond's website, www.drummondengines.com
Here are some parts from Feed that I'm putting in an order for now in addition to the scuff plates. Here's what everything will look like installed. Looks like the wait on the rear RE Amemiya super Greddy bumper is a couple of months, November most likely. I'll post an install write up with pics when it arrives.
