My FD build

All right, let me introduce myself. My name is Matt and this is a thread I've wanted to post pics and some info on my 93 RX-7 ongoing project. Let's start with what is going into the motor. Ceramic 3mm apex seals from NRS. These are the grey material ones. Included are the "stinger" springs that are required to keep these seals from prematurely wearing out the springs. Next, to house these are rotors that have been milled to 3mm, flame reliefed for faster spool and balanced. Both rotors have been coated with cermet A from JHB in Canada. New rotor bearings, viton water seals, polished rotor housings/ cover and holding all this together, X-treme rotaries' stud kit and Groundzero's oil pan. Keeping any parts from shifting is important to reliability and power. To equalize egt's I'm also going with Groundzero's lower intake manifold. This will also make the installation of my upgraded fuel system much easier and cleaner. Stay tuned for more.

Yep, new motor, new turbos, upgraded fuel setup, V-mount I/C. Interior is done minus some audio stuff. I've even changed the bodykit and added some carbon fiber touches to the exterior. I'm concentrating on completing everything under the hood first. Here is a pic of the curent setup. The rear rotor's compression is low. I was breaking in the motor with zero boost and only got 1500 miles when it happened. Ran nice with the streetport. Thinking that I lost an apex seal, they are from Rotary Aviation and were cheap. Wont be sure until the motor is opened up.

I had the motor done by two local guys, Mike Jones and his friend Jason. They worked for Premeir autowerks in Seattle parttime until the shop owner got kicked out of the country for an expired visa. Everyone dropped off the planet when they got paid. I had to go to another shop to straighten out their mistakes. I've got reliable people helping me out with the car now. My interior turned out great though, they shipped the parts to Indonesia to be wrapped in silver carbon fiber. And I had the engine bay painted to match the rest of the car. Eric Hayes( no relation to Hayes Rotary) did the aluminum polishing.

Here's more interior pics. All the paterns line up and the contrast from black to silver looks awesome, lots of depth in the carbon. The guage pod is from Frank (Flyrx7) and the touchscreen I installed. I made the aluminum trim ring on a mill at work and polished it at home.

Here's the battery, relocated in the bin behind the passenger's seat. Made the cover and got all the streetwires stuff at Cartoys. Got to make room for my next intercooler.

I like the choices you have made for it. Have I seen this one at the meets before? You are running a microtech right?
Anyways, sounds like you are doing everything right. Too bad the last build didn't last like it should have though. I don't know if you have yet located someone with good tuning skills for the microtech, but if you still have the stock harness you could go with a powerfc. Also groundzero is excellent with the powerfc, not to mention steve kan will be making it to our area for a tuning session soon.
Woundup7 could probably go on for hours about how much better his car has been with the powerfc.

I'm using Microtech's LT12s. Gary Brooks (Extremeperformancellc.com) is my tuner, and he's helping me with my upcoming project. We're sending out the motor, going to have it dyno'ed before it goes back in. Expecting over 500hp when all is said and done. The GZ lim is almost done being polished, I'll be sure to get some pics uninstalled.

I had a Motorola IHI1000 handsfree kit for my razr installed. It uses bluetooth and it works pretty good. It will announce the incoming caller and ask you if you want to accept the call, say yes and it transfers you. I made a contact list, say the name and it calls the person on your list. The kit runs $400 and comes with speaker, mic, remote(pictured) and cpu. You can run it through your stereo also, to mute the speakers when you get a call.

I just recieved the primary fuel rail from KG Parts. I polished it with some green metal polish and a Mothers powerball attached to my drill in a vice. Took about 2 hrs. Heres another look at the old engine bay. And for the exterior, from Shine auto project, the complete Feed widebody kit with the ver 2r bumper. As you can see the hood is twin weave carbon fiber along with a pair of side skirts.

After all this work, youre putting in the stock twins again???

I'm guessing though, that the twins are'nt going back after rereading your post about 500hp. I'm guessing this is going to be rwhp? CJ

^ I agree! Definitely go single. The engine bay will be cleaner and more accessible, not to mention easier to work on (if needed).

The twins won't be used in the new setup. There will be plenty of room because I'll be removing the cruise controll and relocating the coils there. The power steering and air conditioning stuff will be gone also. Many plastic parts are being replaced with aluminum or stainless steel. Simplicity and quality are at the top of my build. Should be getting some more goodies delivered this week. LOTS MORE PICS TO COME.

From my personal exp. I would keep the PS. Its realy nice to have in a parking lot, and slow turns. Unless you're swaping out the entire rack. But then again, I still have the cruise control. I did ditch the AC though. Don't miss it. CJ

Just recieved the oil filler neck(polished) and the oil pedestal with the -10a/n fitting from Re Speed today. The filler neck has a baffle in it to keep the oil where it belongs. Now I don't have to reuse and modify the stock plastic one with the GZ lim. Sweet!

A few other things that I'll be adding soon are new black leather stock seats with sueade inserts and GT Factory vertical door hinges. I also had the taillights converted to 99 spec. and polished by Sevenlust. They look brand new!

The coil relocation brackets came today, just in time for some weekend polishing on my part. These will go where the cruise control and igniter are. The smallest bracket is for the igniter. The cruise controll will be eliminated. Longer plug wires will be needed but the cooler location of the coils will extend their life and make repairs and maintenance easier. I could have ordered the cover etched with FD3S RX7 but I have something unique reserved for it instead.

Here's the old setup of the engine bay again. My oil catch tank with A/N fittings (Mr. Gasket-Shadow series) I will be using these all over soon. I picked up the Feed cover locally. You gotta have bling right?

Update; I should be installing the GT Factory hinges this weekend. Here's a couple of pics of what they should look like if I install them correctly. And here's a pic of what the car will look like with the new bodykit from Shine auto project. I also purchased an Apexi intercooler for the v-mount setup. The turbo(s) hint-hint are still in the developmental stage but we've been promised some housings for mock up of the manifold. Once this is done we'll pull the motor and ship it off for a rebuild. The fuel stuff is enroute and the tank will be dropped for some upgrades.
