Help! Can a twin turbo fit in my 87 rx7?

Hey guys so I'm ready to swap my rx7. It's a 87 it's non turbo right now I'm going with the 13b s5 turbo swap. But I wanna know if the twin turbo motor fits on my rx7. Do they fit with the Motor mounts I have right now? And do u guys know anyone good that can swap it? I'm located in north jersey

misterstyx69 08-24-11 05:59 PM

13B s5 Turbo engine only has ONE turbo.
yes it will fit into an S4 N/A.
You should do a little more research as the wiring is slightly different as the S5 engine relys on an electric OMP.
Look into the FAQ's on the stickies at the top of the Sec Gen Section.

We have a FAQ. Use it;)

Will a 3rd Gen RX-7 (FD) twin turbo engine (13B-REW) fit in my 2nd gen RX-7?
The simple answer is No! The motor mounts are in different locations as well as other issues; however if you have enough time and money it can be done. Much of the project will be custom fabricating all the systems that attach to the engine such as the exhaust, intercooler setup, cooling system and wiring. A standalone EMS is almost required and it is very difficult to control the sequential turbos. Most people go to a single turbo because of this. In general this swap is not worth the time and trouble unless you plan on making more then 450 HP.

Here is a basic write up: http://fc3spro.com/TECH/SWAP/FD3S/rew.html

There have been many past threads covering swapping the 13B-REW into an FC:

So no it's not worht it?

BenRX 08-25-11 02:00 AM

Not unless you have deep pockets. Much better to drop a S5 T2 engine in and tune that.

13.8

Manutdxrp 08-25-11 01:10 PM

13.8 don't they come with 200hp? I tho that would be like 14s

sharingan 19 08-25-11 09:31 PM

The 13b-rew twins will fit the 13b block, I have seen it. The owner used an exhsst flange as a spacer and had to clearance the LIM slightly, but they fit.

On stock boost they run 13.9 according to car and driver, a 13.8 isn't unreasonable if you can drive...

gear_grinder 08-25-11 09:36 PM

13b-re goes in easier then 13b-rew but not as easy as 13b-t.

unless your used to cars that are acutaly fast (not your friends 87 irocz or 91 240 with the stock ka) 13.9 will feel fast as hell.

1NSIGHT 08-25-11 09:43 PM

I always thought it was easy to put in the 13b-re from the fd. As long as you had the ECU, harness, and motor mounts conversion.

gear_grinder 08-26-11 12:18 AM

13b-re is not from the fd, its from the cosmo....

1NSIGHT 08-26-11 12:14 PM

I thought the 13b-rew was from the cosmo.

but that's not the point of my statement about the fd motor going into the fc.

Manutdxrp 08-26-11 07:03 PM

I'm just gonna do the 13b s5 turbo. How hard is it to find turbo Axels for this cars?

sharingan 19 08-26-11 10:49 PM

More difficult than you might think as no one makes (or rebuilds for that matter) turbo axels. Yet for some reason, everyone has the n/a axels, as if an n/a 13b has enough torque to break a toothpick..../rant.

So you're stuck rebuilding them yourself or having a company make some up for you. Fortunately they seem to hold at least moderate power ( __< 400whp) pretty well. So unless you're a drift but or a drag freak some jdm "low milage"units should be fine.

So I can use my n/a on the turbo tranny?

Spirit-RE 08-27-11 06:49 PM

Do some research. Put some effort into it. All this stuff has been covered over and over.

That search button, it's not just a gray box with the word search on it, its actually a link that leads to a search menu.

FC_fan 08-27-11 09:29 PM

fwiw, I hear a lot of people in the drift section running 200-400hp on the t2 axles and rear ends. some in competition level. I also hear people saying how they break na axles drifting on na power with welded diffs so... don't drift with na axles and a t2 motor or expect broken parts.

yes, the turbo motor bolts to the na trans and vice versa. you don't want a t2 motor on the na trans or rear end probably though. they aren't nearly as rugged as their trubo counter parts. if you are mixing trans and rear ends, the driveshafts are different lengths. I suggest you do a full turbo swap including trans, driveshaft, rear end to make use of your new power. especially if you plan on hitting a drag strip, those kinda starts will be hard on your na stuff.

not to thread jack, but where would you go to have better axles "made"?

SpikeDerailed 08-27-11 10:06 PM

A local here drifting a street ported n/a s5 managed to break the ring and pinion of the n/a rear.

You really need to make use of the FAQ, because it would have answered every question in this thread instantly.

Pasted directly from the driveline section of the FAQ:

Can I install the Turbo II transmission into an NA?

Certainly. But you need to also install:
-TII flywheel, clutch, pressure plate
-TII slave cylinder
-TII starter
-TII driveshaft, differential, axels
-Adapt the wiring.

MazdaTrix makes a TII transmission to NA rear end driveshaft, so if you don't want to swap your rear end, you can use that shaft instead.

love_my_Fc 08-29-11 03:15 PM

but, you haven't asked if the t2 hood fits on your s4 n/a :dunno:
