A good friend of mine picked up this shell for me the other day. Today I finished pulling parts of value off of it and then it was off to the scrap yard.

It was her time Wedge. And besides, better to have me part it out and help fellow members rather than let that shell get rattle canned another dozen times and sit in a field.
There seems to be shells popping up all over around here- not sure where the hell they’re coming from. If you’re serious about taking on another resto, dm me and I’ll point you in the right direction.

You just scrapped a lot of good usable stuff unless the photos are hiding things. I mean good greif, all that glass. You can't just buy that stuff anymore.
Thought the same thing when I saw the rear quarter glass, and then the side glass, and even a windshield! Oh, well,... The rest of our 1st Gens just went up in value slightly.

NJ salt roads are terrible, no wait, I said that wrong. NJ roads are just terrible. My buddy had his e46 zhp totaled when he hit a pot hole that triggered all the air bags on the driver’s side.
For any newer members, look up 82transam’s posts about bringing a rust bucket back from what should have been considered a scrap crusher candidate.
He has since done many more minor miracles fixing my old 83 gsl that he now owns. Some fixing dumb things I did (spray foam ) and some the normal wear and tear trouble spots.
These cars are not being supported from Mazda’s heritage line yet and there’s very little third party support. If you come across a good… no, any parts car, please save every little piece. When I did that years ago, I was even asked to send moldy seat covers to another member. You would be surprised what is save-able when you have no alternative. The stock carpeting alone is worth saving, especially the s3’s.
In terms of work… finally got around to making a mount so I can paint and clean up my 12a. Then mmo’d it and rotated it by hand for good measure.

Couldn't sell the wrecked car for $1500. Took parts off until I made $2500. Couldn't sell the shell for $200. Couldn't give it away. Eventually called a scrap yard and the guy who came by was like "Oh i might restore this". I told him, you should have paid me $1500 when I listed it, because now it's gonna cost you twice that to get back to where it was 6 months ago when I initially wanted it gone.

You are engage on a never ending discussion, you could have done everything possible and someone would had still find you at fault, you know what? YOUR car YOUR money your decision. I know some people are really trying to serve the community by educating and providing good information.

I mean, whatever, it's "yours", but just remember that when *you* can't find a part because the last guy just junked a car. I get it if you maybe aren't part of the community, but that's not the case here. To be fair, I also get not wanting to deal with "craigslist" people. I've been putting off selling an AE86 because I just don't want to deal with a certain type of buyer.
I'm not trying to condemn anyone here - I apologize if I came of as aggressive or angry. I just feel like there was still some good stuff there. I hate to throw anything away I think I might need later, so I've got a bit of a skewed viewpoint here. Sometimes you just don't have the space to keep it all, physically or mentally.
Back to folks doing stuff to their first-gens. I hope to add to the thread myself in a couple weeks. It's warm enough to work on mine here in North Texas now (has been for a bit, really) if I can find the time.
In my case, I did also cross post on forums. Mostly got “wish I was closer” kind of posts but no real bites. Sold a ton of parts to guys that just weren’t interested or didn’t have the ability to haul away a shell. One less car in the world, but dozens back running with the parts they needed. But it’s a hassle I’m glad to be done with.
As for my 1st Gen. About all I got to was a front brake job. Ordered bearings and rotors ages ago and it went quite smoothly. I don’t have access to a press so I just left everything in the freezer over night and a few taps with a bearing seat kit from harbor freight and the races slid right in.
