Too much power and grip! I have something like 230-250hp and my new driving style is very acceleration oriented - understeer in and power out. Makes for very good times but since I'm not sliding around as much, I'm putting a lot more stress on the drivetrain and I'm twisting the axles right apart.
I'm looking into aluminum Ford 9" rearends... I stuck with the Mazda stuff because it is light but breaking **** constantly is getting way expensive.
I'm also in the back of my mind thinking F it, I can buy a STi for what it is costing me to keep the RX-7 going. Which I know in the front of my mind is the easy way out and AWD can be fun but it isn't as rewarding as a RWD car.

Black carpet: got lucky, found brand new black carpet set on ebay someone had had made from 1st gen original--2-piece front cabin, plus the rear hatch area. When it comes time to replace, I'll do the same thing.
Red LEDs for gauges, bright blue LEDs for cabin and rear. LEDs for brakelights and stoplights also.
Door panels are actually GSL-SE, but in perfect condition. Debating whether to replace gray carpet at the bottom with black.
Recovered kickpanels and dash panels in black.
Also found fully intact dark gray windshield defroster vents.
Black 1st gen floormats from JasonS, Group Buy; awesome quality.
SEM prep and paint on plastic interior parts.
Never found a rearview mirror that wasn't "infected" so had a bunch of them resilvered.
PO had found and installed perfect black dash.

That's awesome! Man, I wish I could find a local parts car with a black interior. If I find one I'll go black probably, but until then I'll stay gray I think. It would be way too expensive to try and ship in a bunch of parts like that from all over the place.
It looks killer for sure though, I need to swap one of my cars to black in the future.
How much of a pain the butt was putting that 7" JVC unit in?
The unit came with a mounting "box" that the unit slides into; I created a custom aluminum frame that holds the box and bolts to the original metal frame in the dash that held the stock radio. Just used some 1/8" aluminum stock that I got at Home Depot.
Even with the plastic bezel that came with the unit, there was still a slight but noticeable gap around the radio; so I got some thin black plastic sheet stock from Grainger, made some measurements of the gap and cut out a pattern that fits behind the opening for the radio. Unless you're looking close, it looks pretty much stock...

Meh, STis have their issues. Methinks new pistons for an EJ series engine would cost a lot more than a few axles. Plus you'll be just like everyone else.
I corner harder on dirt than on pavement And acceleration is another issue since dirt is "springy" and it fights back against you, lots of rolling resistance compared to paved surfaces.

To be honest, I'd just want an STi for the interior. After driving an automatic WRX on course (have incar on my YouTube page, it's the lastest one as of this writing), I could see that it's way faster than a manual trans car even with the stock torque converter. I don't know how much power he's making with the 2 liter, whatever an uncorked EJ20 with a tune and 18psi does. Put in a decent converter so the engine can flash up to the turbo's happy range and they become VERY formidable.
But they don't have the STi interior... If only Subaru would have made an automatic STI... or even more ideal, a CVT.

Yes, I'm rolling. I have no desire to clean overspray off the windows. And me. I also have no desire to breath in the atomized paint. I do have a rattle can for spot fogging of areas that are thin, but doing the whole car with rattle can is out of the question. The interior isn't going to be show-car quality...it's going to be functional and reasonably attractive. If I have a few runs, I'll live with it.
Last night I rolled on the base coat from the rear seat area back. I love the Kubrick-esque look. Very 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Rattle-canned the inside of the doors. Done with painting. When it all dries, I'll put it all back together again. Roll bar is next. Oh wait...I have to paint that too. :/
Odered new gaskets for my RB SP exhaust. Car is mega louder since it got back from DGRR.
Hmmm, I guess I burned out one or more gaskets. Wonder how that happened? LOL!

Had my SE OEM wheels refinished. Now I have to get some new tires. I have found only two manufacturers that still make the OEM Size 205/60-14 tires. NEXEN (Korean) and NANKANG (Chinese).
Last night, I started putting the interior wiring back together sans dash. I thought I marked everything that I might have a question about, but I didn't. :/ It was fine though...finally figured it out. The car turns over and all the lights/flashers, etc work. I am having trouble with the gas door and hatch release...can't get them to work. The fuse is good (they're controlled by the same one). Will get out with my multimeter and try sorting it out tonight.
I need to rig up something to mount the cluster and switches as a temporary setup until I finish making the dash (which I haven't actually started yet). Needs to be ready to go before the end of the month for the next SCCA event.
Didn't do anything last night, but I did get out there this evening and figured out how to mount the cluster securely without a dash. A drill and a couple of screws made short work of it. Quite pleased with how it turned out. Again, this is temporary until I actually make a dash.
I still have to figure out what to do with this mess until then. :/
Got the right side "bucket" sheet metal cut and welded up. So much easier to not weld it on then realize you gotta open it up and add sides, instead of a simple trough lol! Ready to weld it on and paint. Going with a vht black wrinkle finish I think.
